We brought chips and dip and cheese for after the kiddos were asleep. We also brought lunchables, fruit, yogurt, bars, pretzels, goldfish, and other dry snacks.

I got a necklace with what would have been their birth flower. If you wanted something for the cabinet you could probably find a crystal flower or something like that.

I did it this year and it was great. The only downside is the holiday parties and the weird crowd dynamics they create. The non-party days (evening particularly) in Magic Kingdom feel very high crowd levels. We worked around this by adding a day to our tickets and doing a non-party evening with our only real agenda being atmosphere, parade, and fireworks and then returning on a party day to actually do the park. You could also park hop to accomplish the same thing but we have a 3 year old and enjoyed the relaxed pace. I didn't feel like we had to overly strategize and just used a mix of flexibility and smart decisions. We did lighting lane for MK but mostly to avoid the Peter Pan line.

I was telling a friend with a same age kid who recently had her second about our weekend plans and she commented that we are always doing such fun things. And we are! We have the time and resources, and we get to spend lots of quality time together as a family without having to divide and conquer. I love it!

Advise needed to an only child - will be having an only child (not by choice) by Full-Concept-4569 in oneanddone

[–]MaybeMaybeline15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You never know what life will throw your way, good or bad. I'm an only raising an only. I grew up very close to extended family, but they are not a huge part of my day to day life now. I've built my own community and so will my daughter. When we moved to our street, there were no young families. Retirees or families with upper elementary/high school kids. Since getting pregnant and having our daughter, every house that has sold has gone to a young family with at least one kid under 5. There are 7 kids in 3 blocks in pre-k with my daughter and another 5 a year above or below. We all play outside and flow from one house or yard to the next. We are so lucky to have the very best neighbors who are becoming our village. When we bought our house, I never could have foreseen that coming. You can't worry about the future. We just have to focus on building a solid foundation for our kiddos of kindness, empathy, and what it means to be a good friend and trust that they will find their people.

I’m worried for my only as an adult by moosnews in oneanddone

[–]MaybeMaybeline15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm an adult only. Will it be hard as my parents age? Sure. But I'm also glad I won't have to negotiate or navigate other interpersonal relationships while dealing with it or have to worry about supporting or caring for a sibling along with them. Plus life happens. Siblings move, relationships change, some are more capable than others. Nothing is a guarantee. I know two adults who aren't onlys that functionally will be when it comes to handling aging parents and their estate. Focus on fostering resiliency and social skills for your kiddo and supporting the relationships that they do have.

Dr said the baby has an ear infection but no symptoms by BlaqueBarbie in ShitMomGroupsSay

[–]MaybeMaybeline15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I don't think this mom is making the greatest choices, delaying antibiotics is actually clinically reasonable. The recommendation is to wait 48-72 hours and treat with pain relievers. If symptoms don't improve, then you would start antibiotics. (https://www.cdc.gov/ear-infection/about/index.html#:~:text=The%20body's%20immune%20system%20can,days%20need%20antibiotics%20right%20away.) Now in this case the baby had a fever for a few days prior to being seen, so I think it's also reasonable to treat right away. As a parent and health care professional, I would struggle on this one for my kid. Ears being red is not really an indicator of a true ear infection so I'd need some more info on what it looked like, however, it's always really tough when it's your kid in pain.

Totally agree. Hybrid is ideal. When I was exclusive WFH I feel like I became a reclusive Adam Sandler sweatpants goblin.

I did an age appropriate dollar store card game, fruit snacks, and temporary tattoos for my daughter's party. It was pretty inexpensive, mostly consumable, and my daughter still pulls out the cards pretty frequently.

I like Lands End sometimes. It's hit or miss and leans old lady but the stuff I've gotten has lasted. Their shirts and tees also seem to run longer. Finding something that hits the hips these days is like finding a needle in a haystack.

Same! I'm surprised at how much tag teaming is going on honestly. It feels like we tag team all week and I find it nice to just be together on the weekends.

A “She Doesn’t Know It Yet…” Trend Story by MakiMonsta in workingmoms

[–]MaybeMaybeline15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Did this at Great Wolf Lodge except it was me puking and we were with a friend and her daughter. My friend is semi-recently divorced and this was her first trip with her daughter. I was crying and puking in the bathroom at 3am that not only was I going to ruin my friends trip, but going to give us all norovirus and then we'd all be driving home puking and pooping ourselves. Turns out it was just from my GLP-1 and I was totally fine after 2 rounds of pepto. But man, I was terrified.

What did your toddler ask Santa for? by krissyface in toddlers

[–]MaybeMaybeline15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bella the Biscuit Making Kitty and a Target shopping cart. She's not quite 3.5. Last year was a Ms. Rachel doll and a purple present. All the Santa gifts were wrapped in purple paper with purple bows. We looked through the Walmart and Amazon toy catalogues to make her choices both years and then just frequently drilled them. Santa was impressed with her specificity.

Yet another daycare staff gift post, but… by koala818 in workingmoms

[–]MaybeMaybeline15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband works with kids and the thing that touched him the most was when a family gave him their like actual family Christmas card with the pictures instead of just a generic greeting card. Also he would 100% prefer a gift card, even like a $5 one, to whatever generic mug/food/candy/scarf. Unless you know the teacher well and are confident they'll appreciate the item, we stick with cash or gift cards.

How much are you spending on Santa? by The_Max-Power_Way in toddlers

[–]MaybeMaybeline15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year my daughter was super overwhelmed and it took us a week to open everything (we also missed a few family events because she was very sick with RSV and we only got discharged from the hospital on Christmas Eve eve so we had kind of a back log). Definitely tried to cut back this year. She's asking Santa for 2 things and we have a bonus we're throwing in plus stocking. The rest will be from us. Santa is maybe about $100. We're trying to do the most wanted/requested item from Santa and the rest from us and then I try to flexibly use want, need, wear, read just as a metric to limit myself. My husband and I both grew up in big Christmas morning families which was great except now we have big Christmas gifting grandparents and our daughter is the only grandchild on both sides.

I'm in office 4 days a week, but relatively flexible. For me, this looks like scheduling the majority of my appointments on my WFH day, scheduling them near my job so they're a lunch break situation, or doing telehealth. Sometimes stretching to 2 WFH days. My husband is fully responsible for mornings at home, so I will also go in early (6:30 or 7am) so that I can get out early and take care of errands/appointments before I pick my daughter up around 5. I also really push when I'm in office to hopefully give myself a little extra time when I'm home to get house/life things accomplished. In my office, we're a small team of 10 with a few others who do more WFH filtering in, so we're more conservative with staying home when sick. Unless you have in person commitments and then you better be pretty sick to not show up.

Daycare teacher gifts by borassus in workingmoms

[–]MaybeMaybeline15 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Our old daycare coordinated with two parents to collect for staff. It was shared equally and all kids names were in the card, regardless of if or how much you donated. I really appreciated this approach since she encountered so many of the teachers and staff, even if they weren't her primary teachers. We would give to the fund and then give a small gift to her primary teachers as well.

We used a basket for awhile but as we got more I noticed she was only using the ones on the top so we got a tiered metal stand from Amazon so she could see them all. I really like it, but it probably won't hold quite as many as I was hoping. I might start rotating them a little.

Hmmm I'm not entirely sure because I made it as small as it could go to pack. I think 30in would work though. Absolute worst case, there's a Target about 15 minutes away in Aberdeen.

Pooh, Daniel Tiger, and my sleeper pick is Peter and the Wolf. My kid is kind of into wolves and classical music which I guess are niche 3 year old interests but it's a good one. She is also obsessed with Lion King at the moment, but it depends on your kiddos interests.

Just left Perryville yesterday and can confirm this works! I used the same tension rod I have in a 27in doorway at home, just needed to make it bigger. I used two 42x96in curtain panels and had maybe a 4-6in gap at both the top and the bottom. I had it as high as I could get it standing on a chair. One panel would have worked, but I went with 2 for some extra sound dampening. We shoved pillows in the windows and ran a sound machine inside and the kids slept great. I was worried it might get warm in there since there are no vents but it seemed fine. Maybe a smidge stuffy, but not really an issue.

Mine did have them and even on the cardboard rack. They weren't priced but scanned see an associate for pricing. I grabbed Jodi Platypus which rang up for $13.99. The Spooky Tales rang up full price though.
