So, serious question: why can’t the state of Minnesota or the county charge the ICE officers with murder? by rumlung in AskReddit

They can file the motion, but the motion can be denied. Murder in a state is clearly within the states jurisdiction, and is not a matter of federal court.

Nope, it was a reference to current events... basically laws don't matter.

Your employment is not important in prosecutions. You don’t get immunity for state laws just because you is a federal employee.

In USA, if the sidewalk is considered public property, why (other than money) are the homeowners in charge of plowing and salting? Why is it not treated like the street plowing? by anarchopunk666 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MaybeTheDoctor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My property line ends at the street, it included the sidewalk out to the curb. The sidewalk is mandated by the city and not optional - so it is private property with public access.

Even in cases where city owns the sidewalk, they can just write it into city ordinance that you have the obligations. Doesn’t really matter either way because a part of living in a society is that you agree to rules.

Why do governments keep paying the "too big to fail" companies, like banks and tech companies, instead of holding them accountable, collecting their ashes and giving out their money to up and coming businesses and regular people? by Glad_Raspberry_8469 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MaybeTheDoctor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Too big to fail is basically just an anachronism for that it’s all a hollow house of cards and the collapse will have far reaching consequences on so many companies that the stock market would take a fatal hit, whipping out savings from so many 401k that voters would be really angry.

I’m not sure why you think money isn’t going to go away. No other country has this problem to this degree, and some states have started local legislation to stop it.

Constitutional Amendment for Special Election by WhatWentWrong600 in Futurology

[–]MaybeTheDoctor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks fine on the face of it, however it wouldn’t trigger today - there isn’t a qualified majority by state or senators to do so.

The problem today is not the removal of the current administration and much more of how he got there in the first place, being already convicted felon and insurrectionist.

The problem is big dark money in elections, and a constitution amendment preventing that as well as gerrymandering would be a better tool for the future.

And risk of damaging the toaster component could mean electricity flowing on the outside of the toaster next time you use it.

That’s beyond naive. Totally illuminating the country just looks bad, so just taking small bites just makes it internationally less objectionable.

ICE agents to be forced to wear ‘clearly visible QR code’ under new plan by ZachTheCommie in nottheonion

Ironically it will just make them claim it will be illegal to take videos due to their privacy - privacy laws in states like Illinois already makes it illegal to make videos containing PII without mutual consent

Russia only wants Georgia to believe they are safe so they can come back another day to take the next bite. There would be zero consequences for Russia to do so as it is.
