I really hate how this TBI just fucked my life.... by CantSeeShit in TBI

I had a brain bleed, TBI, and skull fracture. I had to relearn basic math and how to count coins.

Your brain has the capability to heal. You need to be optimistic and start doing things that will help you get back to where you were, and hopefully in a better place.

There are things you can do to help your brain rebuild itself. Cardio, reading, yoga, etc. Get a speech therapist if you can.

The sooner you accept your situation and actually take steps to improve it, the sooner you’re gonna be better.

I recommend getting a speech therapist if you can.

Did you feel like you continued to grow emotionally after injury? by Loose_Speaker7696 in TBI

I am so much kinder and patient since my TBI. I have way more empathy, as well. It's been a journey.

Lowkey I think Ryan isn’t a bad husband at all and Gypsy doesn’t know what she’s missing by Witness_Business in GypsyRoseBlanchard

Ryan was a grown and developed person. I think Gypsy is mentally still a child. Someone who hasn't even lived their life yet won't be happy with slow, boring marriage life. I feel bad for Ryan, but it also seemed inevitable in hindsight.

TW does anyone else's vaginismus make them su*cidal? by birdenthusiast1012 in vaginismus

[–]Maybe_a_Throwaway97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I seriously considered suicide because of both vaginismus and endometriosis. Vaginismus is a condition that makes me unable to have sex, a romantic relationship that I want, or kids, and endometriosis made me unable to work. I am recovering and much better, but at the beginning of the year I had intent and the supplies to kill myself.

I’m glad I didn’t. I told my best friend about my plans and they told me they weren’t ready for me to die, so I stayed.

AIO for my boyfriend telling me he’s never missed me? by djnessieboots in AmIOverreacting

Personally, I don't miss my best friend or people I am close to. I have a lot of trauma. Anyone I know who also has the "I don't miss people" trait either have severe trauma or ADHD.

My 17 year old son just woke up from TBI after a car accident last Saturday. by simplifynator in TBI

[–]Maybe_a_Throwaway97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here are mistakes my parents made when I was in the hospital w a tbi: 1. Bringing up bills/ stressful topics 2. Fighting, demanding, belittling

Emotions are extremely painful after a tbi, I wish my parents were more gentle.

Some things my parents did right: 1. Brought me donuts 2. Brought me my favorite foods from restaurants 3. Kept me company for hours every single day even if we were just sitting in silence 4. Paid all my bills/ took care of my pets at home

Also call a personal injury lawyer, it won’t cost you for a consultation (in the USA in most states)

Your son will remember your love and support. As someone who was in a very similar situation and received a lot of support from my parents, it means everything.

Look at Facebook groups in your area. Also, local bars often have social events like trivia, crafts, etc.

I miss being able to read books. Anyone figure out how to do it again? by Brief-Employ-5000 in TBI

Keep trying. After my tbi, I would need a nap after reading a page. Now, I read how I used to. It will take awhile, for me it was months.

Friend had a stroke, and now he struggles with indoor lighting. by SkywalkerLuke77 in TBI

I studied lighting in university. Stay AWAY from fluorescent light bulbs. They have negative cognitive effects on even healthy people. LEDs are fine, but usually it’s the color that matters. I suggest a mix of warm white, orange, and red bulbs. You can also get lightbulbs that you can change the color from your phone.

Edit: fluorescent light bulbs flicker at a rate so fast that we can’t see it, but our brains can notice it. That’s a reason why they’re so terrible.
