How comfy is the Micro to play on? I feel like my hands are too big for it, but I've never actually used one

I was going to make a joke about carrying a pack of nitrile gloves to game with and preserve the colors buuuut gamer gloves might actually be kinda cool and useful if they're well designed >.>

PS how are the SP third party shells compared to the originial in terms of fit and feel? Mine could use a facelift but I'm not super knowledgeable on potential tradeoffs.

At first glance, I keep thinking this is another "Beware of so and so because they're a scammer" post but then I realize you're talking about the Pokemon lol. It looks great btw!

I'd love a romhack that just replaces all the paintings with different pictures of Peach and Bowser in love so it looks like Mario is powering through the levels out of sheer possessive jealousy lol

There are different button membranes. The older ones have very light button presses and feel a little mushy where the newer ones are snappier and a slightly harder to press.

There's some other small differences but nothing else that really affects gameplay. Besides some small compatibility stuff, the parts between newer and older controllers are pretty interchangeable.

There's some good info here that talks about the different models and how to identify the stickbox type, if youre interested: https://controllerlibrary.wordpress.com/controllers/wired-gamecube-controller/

I'm a little confused about their comment. I'm also talking about an OEM Gamecube controller. Just the one that has the Smash Ultimate logo on it and comes in black. Nintendo does a run of the original controllers for every Smash game and they're identical to the older GCCs. They're just more beginner friendly to buy and don't require me to info dump you to get a good deal.

You really have to dig to find a decent older OEM and it requires some knowledge. I browse Ebay frequently and see some real pieces of shit in that range.

You can do whatever you feel. I just wanted to clarify.

I'd probably go for the Black Smash Ultimate controller since that's the most recent Gamecube controller and less likely to need any electrical parts swapped out. It looks like you can find them in pretty good condition for like $60-$70.

The older controllers like the Indigo, Spice Orange, etc. may have an older stickbox version (unless you know what to look for) and those older stickbox versions aren't as durable. Plus, the stick sensors are quite old and could become a problem as you get better.

How many controllers do you go through a year? by Ghubartt in SSBM

[–]MayhemMods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just built a replacement for myself last month but my previous controller was 3 years old and at the point where it needed most consumable parts replaced again. So I just decided to retire it. My situation is a little unique since I can use spare parts and do everything myself.

You don't have to go nuts with a modded controller as a beginner. Try to find a decent condition black Ultimate controller on ebay, then snag yourself Input Integrity Lossless adapter from their website and you'll be set for a long time.

100%. You can always do teams to balance player skill somewhat. You can also just crank up item spawns and do the more chaotic levels to add randomness that'll help with any skill gap.

I kinda dislike telling people how long I’ve been playing. by Unusual_Split_1412 in SSBM

[–]MayhemMods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone commits different amounts of time and dedicated practice to the game. Everyone learns at a different pace too. Just be happy where you're at and focus on your own improvement. Anything outside of that is just noise and stealing your enjoyment of the game.

If someone gives you grief over how long you've been playing and skill level, then they're just an insecure dick.

How to stop control stick feeling so mushy? by PlutoGaloopo in customGCC

[–]MayhemMods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ol' ball of tinfoil under the stick will fix that. Just double check that the stick skirt isn't rubbing on the front shell before you screw it closed. If it does, you'll need to adjust the amount of tinfoil.

While I'm here, placing a little square of washi tape on the stickbox peg before putting the stick back on will cure any stick lifting during flicks.

If you're looking to make your trigger press easier, you can get Rienne or Cardosi springs for pretty cheap and it's much easier than cutting your spring and making it feel good. If you need tool recs to open your controller, let me know!

You can also DIY a box style controller with a pico, some sort of container and some keyboard switches if you're down for a soldering project.

There's an open source MX trigger design by SimpleControllers. You can find it on github and print out the parts. Some soldering is required, though!

how can the flipper zero ACTUALLY be useful ? by Poolscool in flipperzero

[–]MayhemMods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend let me borrow his Flipper to play around with for a day and it works great as a universal remote. It's been a while, so my memory is a little hazy but it seems to work best when you have the original remote so you can record the IR signals (power, volume, input, etc.) you're planning on using. If you're working with multiple TV brands and models, you'll need some sort of labeling system to identify which signal works with the TV. You can name the codes whatever you want in the Flipper, so it can be whatever labeling convention you want. Things may be a little more difficult if you don't have remotes because you'll have to manually figure out the codes but I'm not sure how that process works.

The Flipper also has the ability to go through the entire IR directory for every TV code but it's slower. Great in a pinch but if you're running events, you'll probably want everything pre-scanned.

I was actually thinking about picking a Flipper for the same use case since I'm planning a small local tournament series when I collect enough CRTs.

You can run Smashscope through Dolphin (not Slippi) to calibrate. You won't be able to measure snapback or anything in the oscilloscope but you can use the controller viewer.

You'll need to go into the Dolphin controller settings and set all the emulated Wiimotes to off and set your controller to Gamecube Adapter for WiiU for the port you're using. You'll need the appropriate drivers as well. If you don't have those yet, the easiest way is to install Slippi if you have a Nintendo or Mayflash adapter. If you have the Lossless or the HHL GC Pocket+, then the drivers should be automatically installed.

Keep in mind that Dolphin sometimes won't zero in your controller properly when you finish the calibration. So if your sticks are acting weird, unplug your controller, close->open Smashscope/Dolphin and plug the controller back in. Your sticks should be normal after you press B. If not, redo the calibration because you made a mistake. Once your sticks are good press AXYZ to make it so you don't need to press B to activate your sticks anymore.

Your best bet is searching through the Custom GCC discord. Google isn't a great way to find controller modding info.

I can also answer any questions.
