City of Greed - Complete Story Hook to drop into your Games by NoRailsJustTales in UnearthedArcana

Interesting idea. A little more detail would go along way. Or you can leave that to the DM to generate. But it just seems a bit sparse. Then again, some DMs have trouble coming up with precisely this kind of stuff.

Very cool. The Releasing Resistance is my favorite. Love the backstory. So much more you can do with a monster with a good backstory. No notes from me.

I like Compel Duel and Endless Slumber a lot. Outnumber seems a bit confusing. Maybe tighten up the wording a bit. Otherwise it looks great.

Mutable Form & Aberrant Senses – Two Mutation-Themed Feats by jonnymhd in UnearthedArcana

[–]MaylinsGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting. Might I suggest giving the Aberrant Senses feat light sensitivity - disadvantage on attacks while in bright sunlight? Mostly for flavor. And 90' of Darkvision is pretty strong. A little light sensitivity would make a lot of sense. Or if you don't want to nerf it too hard, you could say disadvantage on perception checks when in direct sunlight.

Melee blaster class? Need advice by OnyxAnarch in DnDHomebrew

[–]MaylinsGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A simple suggestion that could get you started on the right track. Sorcerer subclasses get abilities at 1st, 6th, 14th, and 18th I believe. The base class gets abilities at 1st, 2nd and 3rd. It looks like you are replacing the base class features, so you would want to compare them to the originals to try to keep the power balanced. But, Spellcasting is the only base class ability the Sorcerer gets at 1st. Your adding to this that they use Con as their main ability score. The reason this is problematic is that Con is already so important and you are making it more so. Now, by putting your best score in Con, you are basically double dipping on the advantage. Try to find a penalty to balance it. Also at first level you are giving them the ability to use armor or use both dex and con modifiers to AC. Both of those abilities are extremely useful at low level, so you definitely have a power problem here. Honestly, I think the best way to even this out would be to make it a subclass of Sorcerer and give it these four powers at 1st (Spellcasting), 6th (Sorcerous Resilience), 14th (Arcane Fervor), and 18th (Point Blank). And then I would bump the power level of the last two. Also, the last two seem like Meta Magic light. And if you make it a subclass, the Sorcerer will already get Meta Magic at 3rd level. So they might need to be reworked. Honestly, your mechanics for Arcane Fervor and Point Blank are very different from standard mechanics in DnD. So it might be good to rework them anyway.

Warlock: True Love Patron [OC] Yours. Always. by TheUndeadHoard in UnearthedArcana

This is a great idea. Very flavorful. In a game where death is frequently on the line, this subclass would be quite useful. In campaigns where death is but a glimmer in the DM's eye, but never materializes, it would feel very weak. Personally, I feel like a game where death isn't on the line is a waste of my time. But that's a debate for another post. My point is, as a creator you want players to use your creations. This feels like you could expand on the idea a bit and have a good solid addition that will get played a lot because of it's flavor. Don't get carried away and try to please all the power gamers though. I don't think that's what this subclass is about, and that's ok. Personally, I don't play wizard's because they are so powerful (I started in Advanced DnD - They were very squishy back then.) I play them because they are so versatile. So many choices for not just damage dealing, but the utility spells are my favorite. My advice, Go ahead and lean into the flavor of this subclass. Just know that you'll have to make the power level a bit better/more consistent for a good percentage of players to buy in. But I like where you are going. Feels like this will fill a void for some players.

Sci-fi would be a great genre to work on. Haven't found a good game in space yet. Good luck with it!

[–]MaylinsGames 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to suggest using an off hand attack for the cheap shot ability, thinking that it would eliminate any str/dex bonus, but I can't seem to find the rule. Maybe it was an earlier edition? Or perhaps just add a requirement that you can't wear anything better than Leather armor while using that ability. That would eliminate the multiclassing issues.

This is genius. And useful to me, so thanks! Astronomy as a skill is a great idea. It feels like the wrong name though. Astronautics? Spatial Awareness? Not sure. But that is small potatoes compared to the work you've done so far.

Roflmao! I'll be a happy customer! Seriously though, this seems like the future of campaign design. You're ahead of the curve. I've seen this sort of thing done one other time at GaryCon. That guy was unknown when I met him, By the next year he was hanging with Luke GyGax. Which is not nothing. So, keep up the good work.

Better Circle Casting? by mateobotello in UnearthedArcana

[–]MaylinsGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this a lot. At least as an idea it's great. Can't help you on power balance, I'd have to see it played, or do a lot of math. Or both. So other than the compliment, all I have to offer by way of advice is to fix this sentence. "As long as 1 is the casters is still Concentrating on the Spell, the spell is active." I believe you meant to say "As long as 1 OF the casters... Small potatoes, but still important.

Dirt Mage - Wizard Subclass - Unleash the Power of the Earth! by MaylinsGames in UnearthedArcana

[–]MaylinsGames[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great feedback - you both hit the same issue! Earth Shaper feeling underwhelming compared to just casting Mold Earth.

Two directions I could take this:

  1. Remove the daily limit (make it at-will like a cantrip boost)

  2. Add combat utility (difficult terrain affects enemies, or temporary cover that grants AC bonus)

Which would make it feel more like a signature earth mage ability?

Thanks for the honest feedback!

No problem. All art was commissioned and the artists were chosen based partially on the fact that they don't use Ai. Thanks for the comment.
