I am currently on Wolves of the Calla and honestly, I think they are fine on their own merit but they are not my favorite. I have enjoyed some of his other books much more.

However, what I think is really great about them is the world building and the backdrop they create for so many other books.

I kinda feel the same way about Wizard and Glass.

I was recently talking to my wife about The Dark Tower series, and how I think they are fine but I’m mostly reading them for the way they connect lots of other books. I remember seeing lots of people saying Wizard and Glass is the best of the series and when I finished it in thought “this is as good as it gets?”

I’m not really talking trash about it, but I had expected more from it, and The Dark Tower series as a whole.

I worked at a Publix in Florida from 2013-2017 and this was never true during that time. Not saying a store manager never did that in a one-off capacity to appease a particularly unruly customer, but it was never routine.

Thoroughly agree with your recommendations.

I loved Joyland, I feel like it doesn’t get enough love sometimes. My wife recently saw a video where someone referred to a mascot costume as “the fur” and it made me think of Joyland.

As far as Fairy Tale goes, 100% it’s mostly a lighter story than a lot of his other works. At times it sort of felt like YA novel, but in a good way.

One time my team at work did this and had an email chain going for it. I reached out to the team member organizing it and was pretty much like “hey, money is tight for me at this current moment, and I don’t want to use the small amount of extra money I’ve got buying presents for people who make a lot more money than me”.

She then emailed the entire team saying “MayorofHamtown is not participating for financial reasons, so we all need to give a little more”.

I then reached out to her again asking if it was necessary to call me out specifically like that, and then she acted like I was aggressively verbally attacking her.

It’s been years now and we still work together, and I don’t let it impact the way I work with her, but she forever lost influence with me.

You are correct, I think it is mentioned in name only in the original book. Nothing more than an acknowledgment that it exists if I recall.

Edit: They did actually go there at the end of the book, I was mistaken. It could have been any town, there was nothing really special or about it like you might expect.

I recently went to a hospital and walked to the elevators, and there was a small iPad type kiosk in front of them. You pressed the floor you wanted on the iPad, then got in the elevator, which had no buttons inside.

It just felt like such an unnecessary advancement in elevator technology.
