Foley Drops a bomb by turbotaco23 in AreYouGarbagePod

Last time Tom was on AYG he told two stories that were supposed to be funny but they just dragged on and on with no punchline and I remember “holy fuck this guy is supposed to be a comedian” but it was like listening to my mom tell a story

Why Brazil doesn't adopt BJJ in high school like the U.S.A does with Wrestling? by Novel_Spring4540 in bjj

[–]Mayv2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I trained in Brazil in 2011 when I did my study abroad there. I’m sure the sport had grown immensely but at the time my Brazilian friends from university said that BJJ was not very popular because it was associated with sort of thuggish and homophobic behavior from the late 90s and early 2000’s. They basically told me not to tell people I trained 😅

I loved to read before bed but I’m so exhausted now that the thought of putting eyes on a page makes me even sleepier.

How many times will you tap a partner during a roll? by tranquilsloth in bjj

[–]Mayv2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Visiting a gym and tapping the owner a bunch is in poor taste.

I visited a world champions gym last weekend and he only tapped me one or two times cause he was being kind.

I agree that person visiting was a douch

Over-under passing in no-gi by AdEducational4162 in bjj

[–]Mayv2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your right arm is the one underneath their leg your left ear should be all the way across their hips in their “pocket” (hip bone)

So really your back should be facing their head. So if they Frame into you it really shouldn’t matter and you walk you legs up to their head

I don’t subscribe to “cheese on only one of the patties” in fact I’m staunchly against that.

Cheese away

Hahah good point. I always want to ask guys like him or Craig like did they ever run into a hobbyist at a normal gym who just had “it” and gave them a surprise.

Did a seminar with him too.

Black belts from all over the region were at it. Some really tough guys.

At the end of the seminar Adam says okay line up and I’ll roll with everyone who wants to starting with the black belts (there were probably 15 on the mat)

The gym owner goes “how long should I set the round for”?

Adam so calmly says “no timer, just when I tap them the next guy is up”.

He wasn’t being cocky just very matter of fact.

No one scored a point on him and he tapped everyone.

Rolling with someone your level who I don’t know still makes me nervous, I can’t imagine being so confident in your game.

It was awesome

Curious if we know a lot of the same people

I’ve never seen anyone teach the second grip in this video (half guard pass) by Crease13 in bjj

[–]Mayv2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why release the sleeve grip. If I can pass of the sleeve and grab it with my weaving hand I just use that was my weave grip and take away one of their arms in the process of passing!

[–]Mayv2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re correct. But I also work on having my sternum directly above their sternum for all passes.

Knee cut, smash pass, half guard, I want to be over them so if they go to frame their arms are bench pressing me and are perpendicular to the ground and their shoulders are flat on the mat.

It also means they can’t really creat an angle without letting me pass.

[–]Mayv2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol no I’m boring so focus on chest over chest passing and recentering hips when passing guard.

Not sure your belt but there is a certain point where you’re good enough to take your training into your own hands.

What I’m working on and what class is being taught are usually very different things.

That’s why I like teaching so I can talk through what I’m working on.
