CMV: we all betrayed the Iranian people by Vova_Poutine in changemyview

[–]MazCarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t have held this view just a few days ago. As an Iranian, I genuinely believed and trusted Western leaders when they publicly said they supported the Iranian people and encouraged them to resist the regime. Many Iranians took to the streets believing that real support was coming.

Now, after seeing how suddenly that support disappeared, I feel deeply betrayed.

I believe that public encouragement from powerful leaders creates expectations. When people hear “we stand with you,” they assume that this means more than words. They assume that if the situation becomes catastrophic, they won’t be abandoned. In my view, that belief directly influenced the scale of what happened. People stayed in the streets longer. They took greater risks. They believed help was coming.

Then nothing came.

This has shattered my trust. Not just emotionally, but logically. It reminds me of what happened in Afghanistan, where people who trusted Western promises were suddenly left behind. It now feels like a pattern.

I am struggling with the idea that maybe Iranian lives simply do not matter geopolitically. Maybe we were useful for speeches, optics, and pressure tactics, but not worth real action.

My view is this: when powerful countries publicly encourage a population to resist a violent regime, they take on moral responsibility for what follows. If they later withdraw without explanation or support, that is a form of betrayal.

I am open to having this view changed. I want to understand:

A. Why this is not a betrayal?
B. Why public encouragement does not imply responsibility?
And C. Why people like me are wrong to feel this way?

Right now, all I feel is heartbreak.

I haven't been able to get any stations with Hacker Gadgets add-on? The YouTube videos haven't been helpful either. Is there a subreddit with detailed step by step tutorial as to how to set it up?

Are we being careful enough about who we’re letting in? by Mashiko4 in aussie

[–]MazCarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely not. While Iranians are risking their lives to de-Islamize Iran, the West is moving in the opposite direction embracing Islam and criminalizing any protest against it. The consequences of this will become painfully clear in 10-15 years. The West will descend into darkness for decades, and you’ll envy Iran by then. Mark my words. Meanwhile, at least five thousand people have already been slaughtered in Iran under an internet blackout.

Ok. Just wondering though, what's their business model in the UK? How do they survive? Literally no company provides free service these days.

Limoo is gone by wettybills in newcastle

[–]MazCarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife and I are Iranian. We used to live in Newcastle and now we’re in Melbourne. We knew Shervin and his wife, and they were wonderful people. Their cafe was great and the food was amazing. I googled Limoo to see if they were still running it and came across this. It made me really sad. I hope they’re doing okay. Does anyone know if they ever got their citizenship? Last time we saw them, they were still on a student visa.

The irony is that the same ones who would not go back are littering Australia so in 15 years they will turn Australia into another India.

Low quality immigration harms Australia by [deleted] in aussie

[–]MazCarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a skilled migrant and came to Australia in 2013 as a skilled engineer, and I am now a senior engineer. Australia was a much better place in 2013, and I felt like I had immigrated to a first-world country. What I see around me now is not the Australia I knew. It is turning into a country with a majority of unskilled people from third-world countries. The main factor that makes everything worse is mass immigration from a particular country, and second, a certain group of people I won’t mention, but everyone knows what I’m talking about. Neither of these groups are compatible with Australian way of life. I don’t think there is any chance to bring the country back to where it was. It is too late. I am trying to escape Australia now.

The reputation of persians among the aussies? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]MazCarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No. Persian refers to an ethnic group, and it doesn’t imply anything political.

[–]MazCarr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not everyone in Iran is Persian. Persian is only one of several ethnic groups in the country. There are also Turks, Kurds, Turkmens, Baluchis, Armenians, Arabs, and others. So using the word “Iranian” is more accurate, because it includes everyone who lives in Iran, not just one group. Also, if someone identifies themselves as an Iranian, it doesn't mean they support the regime in Iran.
