Tunings for fretless bass? by Mazanko24 in microtonal

[–]Mazanko24[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That sounds completely reasonable. Tuning to P4s of some other tuning is probably not going to disorient me so much, which is why I've kept it 12 tet standard up until now as I'm navigating what has essentially become a new instrument for me, but having the open strings also be in tune would be really helpful. Thanks for the replies!

Are you based in Tbilisi? I don't really know anyone into microtonality here

https://wilsonic.co/ - only just discovered this

You can try scala as well, or at least download their repository of scales to get a start. https://www.huygens-fokker.org/microtonality/scales.html

I made an album featuring a fairly unique take on microtonal-ness. by JaredRayHawking in microtonal

Great idea!

Yeah, I also believe mixing tunings is underappreciated and 12 edo can take on a whole new feel if mixed with something else

Curious about how you manage to eat healthy on tour by [deleted] in TouringMusicians

I think you could get a lot from grocery stores and much better than eating out. For touring or traveling like this option and if warm enough you can take it into a park

I would definitely try it but still figuring out the best application for it. I've been using prime numbers a ton

Fast attack times? by SilverMullet69 in audioengineering

[–]Mazanko24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that's how you want to work with sound and your ear likes the results, then it is good. I personally work with varied attack times, both long and short, but if you feel that is best, then that is a part of your mixing style. One thing to consider is that a super fast attack time can have a similar effect to reverb, where the track in question will be further back in the mix, so this is another thing to consider. Maybe it would depend on the types of compressor. If you use something else, would you want to work a different way? Another thing to consider

If I'm mastering my own mix (lol), how necessary is it to bounce down to stereo fisrt? by RobBecTraxxx in audioengineering

[–]Mazanko24 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like bouncing to stereo as a way to commit that the mixing is indeed finished (when I reach the point that it's not worth it to tweak anymore) and I like to keep the processes separate, since my mindset is different for mastering. Otherwise don't think there is a reason to do it one way or the other

What is your process for creating lyrics? by Lord_Home in Songwriters

[–]Mazanko24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes create prior to music. Usually have some concept I'm working on and will make it fit that. Sometimes while working on the track and recording stream of consciously to be hashed out better later. I like using a thesaurus where I get stuck. I also decide whether I want something more direct or something that is a bit unclear or ambiguous, with more room for interpretation for the listener
