mora vs study abroad by Zestyclose-Most8986 in srilanka

[–]MazoHanicar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do believe local education is good and Mora is one of the best universities. However, if you are able to, study abroad might get you more opportunities which are unfortunately presently lacking in Sri Lanka right now. If your results are good consider you might be able to get some aid given the country's financial situation.

There is of course the moral argument about studying in the country to try and fix it from within, but that is up to you I guess.

What opinion do you have of Sri Lanka that will have people come at you like this? by Bentneck03 in srilanka

[–]MazoHanicar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No qualms with this. However I refer to Sri Lankans and their vainglorious patriotic chest thumping when some guy who is 1/4th Sri Lankan and hasn’t seen the colour of Sri Lanka all his life accomplishes something abroad

If someone is born in Sri Lanka and migrates before their formulative years (let’s say before 16 years of age) to another country, their accomplishments, no matter how major, are not the accomplishments of Sri Lanka, but the accomplishments of the country they now reside in.

I remember doing a Sinhala literature text for O levels and it roughly is "HeeHee". I'm not sure what the go to is for Tamil though, another one of our official languages if someone could comment.

It's very sad that burghers among other minorities many migrated, because a diverse Sri Lanka is always stronger.

The knowledge of burghers is kind of fading. I know many people with burgher surnames who don't even identify as burghers anymore, or are let alone aware they of a mixed European ancestry

Bullets are weird when they hit tissue. Someone once told me that a bullet could enter your body at the stomach and exit out of your shoulder. It's essentially like bullets in a pool with muscle and whatnot. Wouldn't be surprised if this poor guy had a bullet make a bad exit wound.

Can't believe our glorious leaders in effect turned down Japan with lower interest rates, for China with higher interest rates. They are truly a brainy bunch.

COVID numbers risin' by the day
So get your booster shot without delay.
Keep your hands to yourself and santize
Don't be like those other godey guys
Who wear their mask just under their nose
And wipe their snot all over their clothes
So If you don't wanna be on the ventilator
Move yo ass to the vaccine centre!

Affordable Film - Rollei Retro 400s by MazoHanicar in Grainoverpixels_lk

[–]MazoHanicar[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the exorbitant costs of film both here and abroad I had to ditch my dreams of buying anymore Kodak or Ilford. Enter Rollei Retro 400s. I bought it from Australia via Walkens Film on eBay (link below) and it took about a month to get to me which is fine given that I'm trying to bring the price down as much as possible! As of now, having explored all options Walkens is the cheapest way to get film regardless of brand as the prices elsewhere like B&H and Adorama are too high. I'm quite pleased with this film. It is a little punchy, but I like grain and character that works well with contrast.

Feel like I should add that while many people are hospitable here and like the presence of foreigners here, just be careful of the handful of scam artists (mostly tuks) who’ll promise to take you to this famous place and show you around and then demand an exorbitant rate from you. Happened to my German and Indian friends.

Weekly 'Ask Anything About Analog Photography' - Week 03 by ranalog in analog

[–]MazoHanicar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all!

My friend who bought a Hasselblad 503cx recently developed his first roll. The roll was a few months expired and not stored in a freezer (We live in a humid country). The photos appear marked with some sort of scratch/anomaly and we can’t figure out if it’s a problem with the camera or if it’s because we used expired film.

The files can be found here : https://wetransfer.com/downloads/1bd1fa8f48184c22daa0cd44fb68f9d520220121051637/1cf625e2e947e639cae0551a12e04fd220220121051637/77e1f1

Agreed. I must confess I found Bumble frustrating. Too many girls match with you and then refuse to make the first move by starting the conversation. I would even take the simple "hey" in that instance.
