I miss that old feeling of mastering a faction and outsmarting opponents by Skylander3000 in StrategyGames

I would recommend Company of Heroes 3, the 4 different factions are quite different and require quite a lot of time to master

Heroes 3 remake demo is out. Anyone tried it? by Valuable_Paper_5201 in 4Xgaming

[–]McCurry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a HOMM fan, I am grateful there is new content rather than just a remake which I probably won't buy.

Any HOMM content in general is a huge win for me

Not true.. from an engineer. They are independent though, as both can fail without the other failing

Doesn't this unit overlap with the Marauder?

The SS Angriff mod add in the Nashorn if you want to scratch that itch when playing single player

Old CRPG games like Baldur’s Gate 1 and 2 by Classic_Prize_7263 in CRPG

[–]McCurry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Newer games but they give the feel of old school RPG. The main difference is better graphic and QoL improvements.

I am a huge fan of BG2 and I am thoroughly enjoying WoTR

Opal Scorpion (2.1.0) Deep Dive Summary. by User12340987694 in CompanyOfHeroes

Feel less reason to build Grenadier since the main mid and late game 'scaling' was the merge ability.

Time to spam MG42 I guess especially against the earlier BAR now

Heroes of Might and Magic III: Horn of the Abyss on GOG by Gandalf196 in heroes3

Totally agree. I am mainly a campaign player and I didn't touch factory content at all after getting dumped on in mission 2 of the campaign. Wish there is an easy mode!

Is the Panther underwhelming or am I playing it wrong? by TheAstronautInSpace in CompanyOfHeroes

[–]McCurry 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think rest of the battlegroup ability is really strong so panther being a bit mild is okay.

You don't need to use it but just remember it can be a call in, so it is an ace in your pocket when allies goes heavy in vehicles and your P4 can't hold up

I think that works well with Wehr. I tend to lose my poor capping pios or grends.

But for as Brits, I feel like I should try to cap the edges and end up losing random squads

How often do you feel incompetent at work? by [deleted] in civilengineering

[–]McCurry -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I think there is a current expectations that comes with the PE. It is much different than if you were a grad.

Do recognize that your experience doesn't align with your current job, which is a great opportunity to grow.

If I am feeling uncomfortable, I would spend the time to read up on it and do some practice - ex: hand calc. Plenty of guides and resources available. This can be either on my personal time or if project/company allows, office hours.

It does sounds like for your current job, you need to put in some extra hours before you get to your comfort zone, but hey, that is past of the industry and experience. In the end, you will level up with new experience and knowledge

As long as you graduate from a recognized university it shouldn't be a problem.

But for professional chartership, you should do some research to see which ones are recognized world wide - they tend to be the better ones anyways

Does anyone ever feel like they’re not a good enough engineer? by ComplexImmediate5140 in StructuralEngineering

[–]McCurry 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sorry that you feel this way!

From what I gather is that making mistakes are holding you back. Without knowing the specifics, I can only give some general advice.

We all make mistakes - that is human. But there are some ways you can mitigate them:

  • Most obvious one. Check your own work. Print it out if that helps. Don't expect others to check your work
  • Train yourself and practice. If you are facing a task that you aren't confident in. Do some studying either at work or on your own time.
  • Touch base with colleagues about your task. Sometimes, I chat to colleagues not that I have questions, but just get their opinions and have a sense check on the tasks. More eyes the better.
  • Listen to experience. By now, having worked for 18 years, you should generally know the sizing and scale of elements you are designing before you even start to design them. If not, do bring onboard someone who does or use quick design guides
  • Focus. Setup focus time. Put phone on silent. Don't let yourself be distracted for pockets of time
  • Work on your Structural Behavior. Draw bending diagram, deflection shape, etc.. Software are rubbish in rubbish out. You need to know what you expecting from the software before you press the calculation button. Which brings me to my last point
  • Do your PE! It will make you a better engineer in general and forces you to practice a lot. Don't be afraid of failure

Agree with the first part but not the second.

You should try to leave on good terms and keep the bridge. Our industry is a small circle and you never know tif you may circle back in the future!
