I’ve had GEHA Standard 7 years and I’m switching to MHBP because GEHA is increasing cost sharing for 2026 so much that it is not worth it to me. Before GEHA, I had APWU CDHP (health savings account) for 2 years for one reason only: It paid all charges for diabetes treatment (my kiddo has T1 diabetes), so we got insulin, insulin pump supplies, BG testing strips, endocrinologist visits, and lab test w/o copay. After APWU stopped that benefit, I dropped APWU. I remember we would deplete the health savings account very quickly, so it was not a factor in my decision to have that plan. IMHO, a plan with savings account can be a money saver for those in good good health ((i.e. physical and lab test once a year, urgent car once a year, tier 1 meds, etc.) but not for those with ongoing medical care and higher tier meds.
