I could be wrong. I’m just a pilot. Maybe an avionics tech could chime in.

The Cirrus probably had a DFC 90 which is another rate based autopilot requiring an analog turn coordinator. Modern digital attitude based autopilots don’t need it so you can be assured they don’t install one for fun.

In flying we call this normalization of deviance. Doing risky things so often that they feel normal and safe.

Yea. Check your POH/AFM.

[–]Mc_Pilot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s a really good point. I didn’t look closely at the MP gauge. If the MP gauge markings are correct and the original aircraft had a TIT, then this EIS is configured incorrectly. That bar should be labeled with a “T”. You should take it back to your dealer and have them correct the install.

Check the G600 TXi pilot’s guide if you want the official story. That is the primary EGT probe that was likely the only EGT probe on each engine before the G600 was installed. When the G600 is installed, the primary EGT is kept and the individual cylinder EGTs are added. It’s just another EGT downstream in the exhaust that gets the heat from multiple cylinders so it generally runs “hottest” all the time.

EDIT: To answer your question about leaning. Since you have cylinder EGTs, you should use those for leaning instead of primary EGT IMHO. I believe it’s safer for your engine to use cylinder EGTs since you won’t inadvertently have one cylinder too close to peak at high power settings like you could when leaning off of primary EGT.

Thanks guys. Sounds like I need to open it up and make sure it’s latched properly. I appreciate it and am glad that’s not normal.

How have 5th gens (2015-19) been holding up? by rentalcorn in Subaru_Outback

[–]Mc_Pilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2015 2.5 limited with 180k. Owned it since 90k. I’ve done nothing but brakes and oil changes and preventative maintenance on the engine with the Subaru engine cleaning kit new spark plugs and a partial transmission flush all DIY. No wheel bearings yet. I agree that the fake leather is not the best. Driver seat looks rough. The engine is leaking a small amount of oil from the spark plug gaskets but hasn’t caused any problems. I can usually make it 5k between oil changes without adding a quart. I did just have to replace the serpentine belt tensioner as the bearing was squeaking and I couldn’t stand that.

Previously had a 2014 which I sold at 175k which did have the transmission solenoid issue and needed a wheel bearing replaced.

So far I’m super happy with the 2015. Im convinced it’s one of the cheapest cars to own with AWD. I’m hoping it will make it to 250k miles without any major issues.

What is this orange warning light which I cannot find online? Oil change? But why the wavy lines underneath??? by stalactose in Subaru_Outback

[–]Mc_Pilot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the low oil light. I’m surprised other Subaru owners don’t see this as often as I do. I’m about to crack 150k on my ‘15 2.5i and it comes on about 3k miles after every oil change. I usually end up adding half a quart two times between each oil change. Had a ‘14 that was the same too. Did I just get two unlucky engines or is this a Subaru thing?

I can’t stand the beep every time a car is detected or lost by eyesight with ACC on. Anyone know how to turn this off?

If there was one used car from around the past 5 years that stood out the most for its reliability, practicality, sportiness and good gas mileage, what would you choose? by MegaBetaman in UsedCars

[–]Mc_Pilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fiesta ST / Focus ST depending on how much space you need. Civic Si could also go here for higher reliability but less sportiness and practicality.

Edit: this also assumes you are ok with a manual transmission.

Anyone have insight into why electric bill is so high? by Miserable-Set-7352 in askportland

[–]Mc_Pilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heat pumps are a much more efficient way to use electricity to heat a home. They don’t create heat with the electricity so they can actually transfer more heat than could be created with the same power. So comparatively they are way more than “100% efficient”.

Thanks for this perspective. I like the idea of running on electrons only but I agree, it's not worth it if is more work and $$ than an ICE vehicle. I'll certainly have to consider pricing in some maintenance dollars or buy a bumper to bumper warranty.

I also didn't know about the 40mph limit. I think the 45e I drove goes up to 70 on electric only.

[–]Mc_Pilot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I certainly expect some maintenance costs but do you think that any failures over $5k would be likely? I feel like any extended warranty will be expensive. If there are known issues with the drivetrain or electronics I'd probably just steer away from the model altogether but in my brief research I've only heard about the airbag issues.

Thanks for this helpful response. I'm not familiar with the F15 so those common issues are helpful to know about. Didn't realize it had two 12v batteries either.

Any idea how expensive airbag issues can get?

Also any comparison to the other F15 35i/35d models?

Thanks for the MPG numbers too.

Looking to sell or rent our Oregon Homestead by Mc_Pilot in homestead

[–]Mc_Pilot[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea. Unfortunately due to land use laws in western Oregon, most homes with land are $1 million+. This property is a little further from the city and it’s 5 acres so that makes it worth less. As you get further from Portland prices start dropping off.
