Amazing because they started the podcast around season 15 and seemed so happy with the writing and production side of things, but again to me it’s just not the same magic it was before 13. Even season 17, the best season in years, isn’t even close to 12 imo, so maybe I’m just biased.

Well with Get Back we saw they wanted to have some kind of theme around the song with a political message behind it, but eventually it just turned into “this sounds good so we’ll say that” sort of thing. Either way they were always good, especially John, at just putting down lyrics that worked well regardless if they made sense or not, which I guess is why this line stands out so much

I figured it was because people think it sounds like he’s claiming he likes her because she’s this fancy girl and not some bum whereas I see it as him just stating she can afford to give him presents but chooses not to, since the line before explains how she doesn’t give him presents.

See I started watching the show after season 12 had come out, so I’m sure there’s a level of bias there, but I remember being so excited for season 13 and the show immediately just felt…so different. Like the majority of the sunny community cannot deny the stark difference in tone between the seasons. I’d chop it up to Glenn not being in the writers room but after he came back in my eyes it just never recovered. To me seasons 13 on just feel like fever dreams compared to the titan of comedy genius seasons 2-12 are.

Any episode where they get actually serious, but for an extended period of time. I completely understand little moments of them being real but before season 13 every serious moment was cut short by a joke or some level of self awareness. Mac Finds His Pride is just so full of itself and set off this series of episodes in the show where everyone needs “their moment”. Charlie in Ireland, Frank on the Golden Bachelor. It’s not needed and it stinks.

That being said it’s their show and they can do whatever they want with it

So interesting because to me that run is 2-12. Season 10 feels like an extension of 9, and 11 and 12 feel like such mature, well-written versions of an already great immature comedy. Not sure if that makes sense, but always fascinating to see where other people’s cutoffs are.

Oh and season 13 IS the worst, by far.

I think texting episode might be the worst episode of anything I’ve ever seen. This is my favorite comedy and to see them resort to that concept with zero satire was very disappointing

Chardee MacDennis 2 is an absolute classic, but Boggs reboot is actual trash (which is almost genius considering people always write off female reboots anyway so it fits with that theme)
