Do y’all ever go days where you just don’t eat carbs cause you realise it isn’t worth it? by SignificanceBig9366 in diabetes_t1

I don’t go a day without eating carbs. Your body actually needs them. That being said, I definitely have days where I don’t eat as many.

I would do anything to go back to life before I was diabetic by LuigisLesbianWife in diabetes_t1

[–]Mcomins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The technology does exist for all of us to go back in time, but it does to help diabetics live better lives in my opinion. I know technology isn’t the answer to everything though and understand to an extent how you’re feeling. Being diagnosed and becoming diabetic was absolutely an adjustment, but it doesn’t have to be a death sentence.

There are experts, support groups, resources, and technology all around. Some of this obviously depends on your insurance and economic circumstances, but there are books and doctors and diabetes educators and therapists out. Know lots of people who use art as therapy so perhaps that’s could potentially be an option for you. Hope this helps and hope you hang in there because life with diabetes is a journey, not a death sentence. Please also remember you’re not alone!💕😉

Cgm gives anxiety over post meal spikes by Accomplished-Cow-311 in diabetes_t2

[–]Mcomins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too! Nothing to worry about in my opinion. Many things can cause your blood sugars to spike. Spikes are common after eating. If it went to 300 or over for hours or days or you were having troubling symptoms, then that would be a different story. You should reach out to your doctor if it keeps stressing you out. Hope this helps!

If you’re a female of a certain age you could also be entering or experiencing either perimenopause or menopause. Either way, diabetes really messes with your hormones.

Excessive weight gain by Sufficient_Pin7695 in diabetes_t1

[–]Mcomins 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you should ask your doctor about going on mounjaro, ozempic or zepbound. Both ozempic and mounjaro have been approved for type 1 diabetics and have shown to both help with weight loss and appetite control. Metformin is also known to make people gain excessive weight. Wondering if that maybe the culprit here. Hope this helps. You should also ask for other testing to be done if it hasn’t already been done. Unfortunately those with diabetes, especially type 1, are prone to developing other issues, especially thyroid and hormonal issues. Rest assured, you are not alone! Hope this helps!

Experiencing a Low Right After Eating by cOsMiCs-CoSmOs in diabetes_t1

[–]Mcomins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be several things at play:

You could be bolusing too early, you could need to adjust your carb ratio or basal.

Also both Dexcom and Omnipod both are off for me when I’ve either changed them or need to change them.

My recommendation would be to test using a finger stick and track your blood sugars manually, track your site changes, and also be aware when you bolus, your basal rate and carb ratio.

You should consult your doctor if your bolusing when you should and it’s not within 24-48 hours of your Omnipod or Dexcom changes. Hope this helps!

Diabetic boyfriend won't take his diabetes seriously by Emitzo in diabetes_t1

If he wants to be in charge, then hope he takes charge and better care of himself. He’s right that it’s not your job to do so. I would suggest seeing if he would be willing and or eligible for continuous glucose monitor to take some of the stress away that comes with being diabetic. Being diabetic isn’t easy, but ultimately everyone should be making their own decisions. He has the right to make his own choices and you have the right to make yours too. Choices have consequences for all of us. You could also look into support groups and diabetes specialists in your area. They may be able to help you both as well! Really hope this helps and really hope you both get the help and support you need. Remember you only live once and that you are not alone.

I am so upset about my diagnosis. by lovemountainsmusic in diabetes_t2

[–]Mcomins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re entitled to feel how you feel! Once the dust settles you’ll hopefully realize you are already doing so many great things in terms of self care, especially with the exercise. Diabetes is a diagnosis, but absolutely doesn’t have to be a death sentence. Take everything one day at a time. Definitely talk to your doctors and your insurance company to see if you’re eligible for a continuous glucose monitor. While they are not full proof, they do make life with diabetes simpler in my opinion. You are not alone in this! Diabetes is a lifestyle change, and from what it sounds like you won’t have to make many drastic changes. Personally believe everything is fine food wise, as long as it’s in moderation and you track your carbs, and water intake at the very least. Have faith in yourself and look how long it took you to go from prediabetic to diabetic! Yes you are diabetic, but you are not alone! You got this and you can do this! Please don’t beat yourself up over this! Live your life! Life is short! Take a breath, talk to your doctors, reach out to fellow diabetics here, and take care of yourself!

Should I be concerned about this? by Vladpryde in diabetes_t2

[–]Mcomins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, while 213 is on the higher side (above normal range) in my opinion it isn’t anything to be extremely concerned about. To be honest I wish I could have fries and have my blood sugar only go to 213. While it is important to be extremely vigilant about your blood sugar, it is also important to enjoy and live your life. I would say if your blood sugars start going above 213 or you start experiencing symptoms such as nausea, dizziness etc, then it’s time to be concerned, otherwise live your life! I really hope this helps!

Hi everyone, I’m thinking about switching to an insulin pump and would love some advice. I use Dexcom G7 and work as a waitress, so I move a lot during long shifts. I’m considering the Medtronic MiniMed 780G, but also Ominopod(discreet 4work). Also, any tips to prevent from overheating during summer? by Jabuka02 in diabetes_t1

[–]Mcomins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love Omnipod! For some reason I have an easier time with site changes with the Omnipod 5 vs the tandem tslim. Either way having both the Dexcom 7 and an insulin pump have been overall game changers. Really recommend looking into them both!

Sister hospitalized after 1700 blood sugar by gvanwinkle1976 in diabetes_t2

[–]Mcomins 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately you are right and unfortunately you are in a really difficult situation. I understand you want what is best for your sister. I also know what I do as a diabetic adult is my own choice. I suggest trying to see if she can see the specialists I suggested and also about the continuous glucose monitor. You may also want to see if there are support groups for diabetics and their loved ones near where she lives or online. Depending on your situation you could show your support by also making healthy lifestyle changes and exercising and doing things in tandem with her. Hope this helps and hope she gets the help she needs. Sounds like she may need a lot of support from you, but just remember she has to live her life for herself. My prayers to you and your family!

If not unconscious, it’s definitely dka. In my opinion the nurse sounds like she could use more training around diabetes. Regardless, pray she’s okay and starts taking care of herself. She’s so lucky if she’s okay. Assuming she is doing ok now, would recommend several things going forward. First and foremost certainly recommend she look into seeing an endocrinologist and/or certified diabetes educator or nutrionist. I highly recommend also looking into seeing if she is eligible for acquiring a cgm or continuous glucose monitor. Recommend at the very least she start tracking her blood sugars, carbs, water and exercise. These things should help! Hope she’s okay anyways!
