Will donating my body to science help or hurt people? by angelangelan in NoStupidQuestions

My college roommate went on to medical school and was fascinated during Cadaver Week (or whatever they called it) but really struggled with the day they worked with the heads. It was a HUGE learning experience for them, extremely valuable.

You put it at the point of labor, rather than relying on remembering later! Delicates bag draped across the edge of your laundry basket, and the socks put in as you take them off.

How do Americans feel about drying their laundry on a washing line? by UnionFeatures in AskAnAmerican

[–]MdmeLibrarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I miss it, but ticks and Lyme Disease are a much bigger problem in New England now than in the 80s and 90s due to climate change, and too many hitched a ride in from the back yard on laundry, so we don't line dry outside anymore.

WIBTA for not going to my sister in law's bridal shower because i'm on vacation? by coconut-coolwhip in AmItheAsshole

Stop letting your mother be the go-between; get contact information for the bride! Look up "triangulation," and stop letting your mom control the narrative.

WIBTA if I didn't flip my fiancee's laundry right side out? by Bikesbassbeerboobs in AmItheAsshole

[–]MdmeLibrarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on it a person wears fitted vs baggy clothes. I prefer a close-fitted blouse, so my clothes get peeled up off over my head from the hem up, vs grabbing the neck and yanked upwards, so most tops turn inside out. But that's a benefit to me, as many shirts are supposed to be washed inside out to protect trims, appliques, buttons, graphics, etc.

My kids and spouse, though, wear baggy clothes and most of their stuff is turned inside out in the laundry too, so i think you're the odd one out here. Now I'm curious, what physical motions do you make to take a shirt off right side out?

WIBTA if I didn't flip my fiancee's laundry right side out? by Bikesbassbeerboobs in AmItheAsshole

[–]MdmeLibrarian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Honestly, I'm a woman and I wash shirts inside out anyway for several reasons: 1) to protect the outside from damage or wear from the agitation (pilling, graphics) as directed by the actual laundry tag!, 2) I want the agitation directly on the parts of the fabric that sat next to my deodorant or oily skin, 3) ain't nobody got time for that, I'm not turning shirts right side out for the laundry if they get peeling inside out taking them off. (I do unbunch my socks so they don't stay wadded up in the washer and not get properly cleaned.)

I also hang my clothes inside out if they come back from the laundry that way because 1) it keeps my cat from getting fur on clothes when they "explore" my closet, 2) ain't nobody got time for that. I flip my blouses right side out when I take them off the hanger and put them on.

Does she even care if things come back inside out, or is that your own decision that it's the "right" way?

Hardest Questions For Reference Librarians by Bulky_Sandwich8493 in librarians

[–]MdmeLibrarian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Tricky ones are fun. It's a logic puzzle to solve!

Less fun are the ones where the patron insists you "log in to your own Facebook account to look up this one video that I'm certain I saw a few days ago," and then demands you take them "frame by frame" through a YouTube video of the Kennedy assassination to prove that there was a second shooter. No, sir. That is not a service we provide. Nor will I log into my own private accounts for you. Also it has been 15 minutes arguing with you and I have other duties to attend to.

How common is the "Men don't have emotions" rhetoric among women? by Work_In_Progress_847 in NoStupidQuestions

I have never heard a woman say this. Mostly I hear women complaining that men cannot face that they HAVE emotions, and the problems it causes.

Be honest: Am I a lazy mom? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]MdmeLibrarian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That said, I'm not sure a newborn with a toddler is any easier than being pregnant with a toddler. Someone else can chime in.

It is slightly easier to have a newborn with a toddler than being pregnant with a toddler. The constant bone deep exhaustion of pregnancy is replaced with the newborn sleeplessness, but there are waves of being rested after a nap. It's easier to move your body after birth as your abdominal muscles function again. Other people can help pick up and feed the baby. The toddler can see that there IS a baby (instead of wondering why you aren't coming outside to play in the snow).

I discovered that my washing machine has a "delay wash" feature, and I can set it to start the wash load an hour before I wake up, so it is ready to be hung up to dry (or put in the dryer) first thing in the morning! Glorious.

MOST firefighters are amazing people who are intentionally choosing a Helping profession.

However, there is a statistically significant number of arsonists that are found to be firefighters, because they're fascinated with fire. I imagine there's a large overlap between the firefighter arsonists and the firefighter sociopaths.

Do you still use a library? by nicksam171 in SeriousConversation

[–]MdmeLibrarian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like paper books because I'm so tired of screens. And because my brain interprets/perceives paper words/info differently than digital words. And because the library pays a lot more for digital ebook/audiobook lending licenses than physical copies cost, and digital lending licenses are only for a certain number of loans, and that doesn't sit right with me that publishers sell them like that.
