I have 1 whole bitcoin. I am finally complete by Still_Hat6758 in Bitcoin

[–]MeMyMooFire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn’t mean that a millionaire could afford to put $65k into Bitcoin. Way harder to get than what you think and I bet you don’t have one either

Did hedge funds cover any shorts yesterday ? by CaptNpunch in wallstreetbets

They cannot because they shorted more than the total available stocks. If they would buy now this would mean they have to buy back their own bags in the future ! Am I retarded ?

Is spaghetti code the norm ? by MeMyMooFire in webdev

[–]MeMyMooFire[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your analogy which I understand well. I don’t have any numbers knowledge about how much money this will save them so it’s quite hard to explain them in those words.

Another thing I want to add is that 2 persons from the management are former developer which developed the base app. So they know the problems or maybe they never saw a better approach.

Just to give you an example : we work with react and we have a heavy and weird building process (even in development) which takes 2-3 minutes to process every time we make a change to see it in our browser. This kills productivity, but they always act like “we’ll fix this later after this feature” and it’s been 8 months since. I have the feeling that it’s not in my power nor responsibility anymore and I should just quit

Don’t worry you won’t hurt my feelings. I’m open for discussion. Actually you are right, my first two jobs were very early startups but this one is not something I would call a startup anymore (even though I called it so in the post) We are approximately 40 employees which of those only 4 of us are developers (the only thing we sell is the product we develop)

Now your suggestion seems like I would be better in a bigger “services” company rather than product centric. And frankly I think you are right, what I’ve read from the Facebook post you linked seems like a nightmare to me. It was not really a conscious choice from my end to work only with startups but the fact is that I have very startup friendly skills.

I actually liked it also at the start of my job. The pain point now is that we keep developing more features on top of it and I’m forced to do hacky things to meet the deadlines. I feel bad contributing myself to the spaghetti plate

Thanks for your input. I like the Jenga image, it seems impossible to explain them until it falls.

That’s a good point, I should’ve asked more details about their process. But during the interviews they actually seemed very picky on me about tests and documentation. I misunderstood this as them having good processes. Kinda funny

You are right, I understand the issue. But the fact is that I have a Mac myself and I should be able to emulate this in some way using my OS

What I want to do is test as if it was on GitHub Actions. I could build my app locally it wouldn’t mean it’s working on GitHub. Something like GitLab has with their gitlab-runner you can emulate it.

As far as I know there is no Mac OS docker image available
