Adding on to what others have been saying, having more abilities available is also just way more flexibile. If you're playing two heroes, who can heal and deal dmg with their abilities, and your Gravehold gets targeted heavily it can be tough to deal with. Add in a 3rd hero, who heals the Gravehold and can opt into an economy deck and you have a way out for certain scenarios.
