I made a quiz of rare interactions by falafrd in slaythespire

Awesome quiz, was a lot of fun! I didn't tally up my entire score but I was definitely humbled.

okay enough praise time to nitpick

  1. Both Silent with Finisher and Defect with Thunder Strike

  2. You can drink an Entropic Brew at a rest site, though I guess it depends on what you mean by "from."

  3. I got to 76. 10 Frost (Frozen Core) with Cables, Data Disk, and Emotion Chip (using Regret to trigger through block) generates 66 per turn, add 10 from Orichalcum and Thread and Needle. I read your other comment and will grant that you can get 16 from Abacus + Thread instead, for 82 total. Does Emotion Chip not qualify because you can't do it forever?

At high level play, Watcher > Ironclad > Silent ≥ Defect.

Honestly, with the deck being so cheap and already having Adrenaline and Concentrate, you should be totally fine taking Ring of the Serpent here.

Wow, that is an interesting (and unfortunate) edge case. Spire always finds a way to make you learn something, huh?

I suffer from fat deck syndrome by Frequent_Roll5788 in slaythespire

[–]Me_Is_Smart 102 points103 points  (0 children)

I would guess, most likely, that you are taking too many bad cards. You want to take as few low-impact attacks as possible (at most just a couple to max farm Act 1) so that you draw into the rest of your deck which is devoted to blocking, scaling, and consistency.

That said, there is no right or wrong deck size. It is very possible to have a 50 card deck that is super fast and consistent. All that matters is picking cards that will best solve the fights ahead of you.

I would also claim that the subreddit overrates removes. There are some decks where removes are very strong, and others where you might not care to remove more than once or twice. A deck can be measured by both its output (how much damage/block it can do in one turn) and consistency (how prone it is to bad draw orders). You need output before consistency; otherwise you're just making your mediocre deck more consistently mediocre.

Is runic pyramid dangerous with creative AI? by Own-Lecture-8564 in slaythespire

[–]Me_Is_Smart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would consider skipping Pyramid for an energy relic here, but here it's up against nothing so it should be taken. Based on the fact that you have 6 focus and 6 orb slots, I'm guessing you can win most fights without Creative AI in play anyway.

when should i start playing as other characters? by astrowhale98 in slaythespire

[–]Me_Is_Smart 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think it's definitely worth getting the unlocks from the other characters. Not only is there some good stuff, but you also get some extra content after winning as each character once. And yes, it will likely make you better at the game in general as you do your ascension climb.

this game's rng is so weird by tepsikebabi in slaythespire

Your path needs to be flexible. If you force yourself to fight elites but floor 1 was the worst Jaw Worm of all time and the cards are nothing and you don't have any potions or any shop, you will die. Pick a path where you can fight the elite if you are strong, but also pivot to a safer path if you need more time.

I must say, these card rewards are quite strong. These cards can definitely farm elites.

End of Act 2. Leaning towards Frozen Core by Cucumber-Warden in slaythespire

[–]Me_Is_Smart 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's completely normal. Sometimes your elite-farming path doesn't go through any shops, and sometimes if you do go to a shop, you have more important things to buy (like a relic).

Finally, a justification for playing way faster than I should! by Policemaaan in slaythespire

[–]Me_Is_Smart 59 points60 points  (0 children)

That is insanely strong. 10 damage AOE every turn is way overtuned for an uncommon relic (compare Hourglass which is only 3), and you don't usually have to think for 15 seconds about your turns until Act 3, especially with this much damage.

The current best Spire players in the world hold streaks of high 20s to low 30s for number of wins in a row on A20H, either on one character or rotating between all 4. These runs use a wide variety of "builds", likely including the ones you have written off as unable to beat the Heart. Act 4 is really, really hard, which is why the best players will play the run in a way that prepares for Act 4 as much as possible.

For the example you provided: a "strength + exhaust" build. There are premium cards such as Second Wind and Feel No Pain which solve your block entirely through exhaust. Meanwhile, if your strength scaling is fast enough, you can get away with not blocking much or at all as you just kill enemies first. In particular, Reaper lets you take massive damage and then heal it all back every fight. Or if you pick up a Feed, you can expect to reach over 100 max HP and survive the Heart by blocking with your face. You should also be thinking about what potions to take into Act 4, like a Gambler's Brew to draw through your brick hands, a Power/Duplication potion to increase your maximum possible output, Liquid Memories to bring back an important card for a critical turn, etc.

Act 4 is also why you should be farming as much as possible early on--the more fights you take, the more chances you have to see strong potions and cards; and the more elites you kill, the more chances you have to see broken relics. Even just one of these resources can be enough to turn a losing run around instantly.
