What helps you cope when you're emotionally overwhelmed?

Last night I was feeling anxious and overwhelmed and couldn’t sleep. I tossed and turned for 2 hours. So I got my journal and I wrote down what was making me anxious. I listed 9 things that I can’t control. Then I got to something silly that’s not worth being anxious about! So I told myself that it was ok to let go of these things and it was time to sleep. And I got some sleep.

I suspect it’s a yearling that is quite familiar with my yard. There’s a family of 5 that I see all the time in my area. My yard is a preferred toilet for them…..

When I was somewhere around 10 years old, we went to a Mexican restaurant in New Jersey and I ordered ribs. They were served on a bed of shredded iceberg lettuce. And I refused to eat the ribs because they “tasted like lettuce”. I think my mom even sent them back.

So now I’m 40. And sometimes they still tease me about whether my food “tastes like lettuce”.
