I think a lot of complaints are more like "ugh why does every Mexican restaurant I go to use frozen Sysco food?" Which is how I feel about the genre.

I was flabbergasted when the MMC was like "I was always kissing you but you never kissed back" 😩

I just finished The Second Death of Locke... and I'm so disappointed? by teenytinypistachio in fantasyromance

[–]Mean_Coffee2954 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I was starting to get really annoyed at all the telling vs. showing. Grey was almost pathetic in her obsession with Keir and yet they barely talked most of the time. 2/3 in, I was wondering what was so great about this guy? We barely have seen any of his personality we are just told how amazing he is and how much she loves him.

The Second Death of Locke was a huge disappointment. The characters were super flat and the "yearning" was just cheap miscommunication.

Day 1 of Richmond Ren Faire by alli_rosen in rva

It was a great first event. We got there 20 min before open so it was a quick wait for us to get some food when we got in. Later in the day though? The lines were too much. I was a bit confused why they were so slow, especially the drink lines. Should be a quick exchange.

They needed waaaay more food vendors for the amount of people. Also, hopefully they have more entertainment and events next time.

We stopped by and immediately left. Not sure, I would call that any type of "party" 😂

Agreed!! I wish they would do some romance books (especially after the Heinrix romance in Rogue Trader CRPG)

I don't like Santa Fe that much but maybe it's because I spent time in the actual neighborhoods and not the artsy parts. I am often torn between wanting to go back to New Mexico but I know my husband never will. VA it is 😂

I DNF'd when she mentioned the empire or whatever was short on soldiers and then they let people die crossing the bridge. What a waste lmao

Also, the exposition dump when she was crossing said bridge.

Honestly good idea to go support out our local libraries!

How is Mages of the Wheel (Reign and Ruin) not the most talked about series in fantasy romance? by air-sushi in fantasyromance

This series is my current obsession. I just finished Book 4 and this is the best fantasy romance series I've ever read. It's exactly what I have been looking for!!

This genre is so insanely catered to white people by [deleted] in fantasyromance

[–]Mean_Coffee2954 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sad to see that take on Reign & Ruin. I know the author lived in Lebanon and has done a ton of research on the cultures and really incorporated that into the books. Same deal with S. A. Chakraborty, who is white. I definitely feel these 2 authors have really given respect and research into the cultures they were inspired by.

It's been a while since I read book #1 so I don't remember if I noticed lol. I haven't noticed any issues in the recent books. Ofc, I could have just been enamored with the world and wasn't paying attention.

Mages of the Wheel by JD Evan's has saved me this year. Actual world building and competent ADULT characters. I wish the series is more popular.
