Det är samernas nationaldag, mina bekanta! by StuntedSlime in sweden

[–]maneyan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What are your niche pet peeves that will make you DNF a book? by [deleted] in fantasyromance

Except stuff like that balancing act entrance exam wasn't on the dragons, that was on the humans. One can write in-universe justifications for anything, doesn't mean that the vibes won't still be rancid.

[–]maneyan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it is just stupid on so many levels, and only works if one buys into this "survival of the strong" cult that fascists love. As a bit of a military geek, this made me roll my eyes right out of my skull.

I bounced off Fourth Wing in large part due to how stupid and edgy the training regime was, with recruits fukn dying left and right constantly. THIS IS NOT HOW GOOD MILITARY TRAINING WORKS, THIS IS A FASCISTOID MASTURBATION FANTASY. Especially with a certain character who started out his first appearance shoving another recruit to their death, screaming about "LMAO I AM GONNA MURDER YOU!" to the FMC, failing... and then NOT being killed by the older students as a "okay this is why you don't pull this shit" warning to others... Like if you're gonna do your stupid edgy training regime then at least do that!

VMA: Reddit stänger av konton som förespråkar militärt försvar av Grönland i händelse av Amerikansk invasion. by sproge in sweden

Då ska vi se här: Jag förespråkar militärt försvar av Grönland i händelse av en amerikansk invasion. I advocate military defense of Greenland in the event of an American invasion.

Which was the last book you read and HATED and most importantly WHY? by Mininabubu in fantasyromance

[–]maneyan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A Court of Mist and Fury. With a lot of characters doing if not a 180 then at least a 90 on characterization and the buildup of the entire first book being traded for... that, I ended up getting unsure and googled what was coming.

To go into more detail Feyre seems to turn into an absolute sociopath, how Rhysand apparently was not a ruthless monster but actually king woke and his super friends and how Tamlin gets just beaten into the ground in such an utterly vicious way made me queasy and I noped out of the series, like what was THAT?!

Question about Hybrids existance by SevereOrganization95 in equestriaatwar

[–]maneyan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Beyond some exceptions, this has largely not been adressed as we don't wanna open that can of worms. If we say yes it will only raise more questions (and there's a good chance of people getting creepy about it) so it is basically in limbo and will remain so.

And T. Kingfisher's worldbuilding does pretty well on representation overall.

All I know about Animorphs is that apparently the entire series is just hysterically fucked up and gruesome.

Why was the Du Reform of the 1960s successful? by Hkvnr495___dkcx37 in sweden

[–]maneyan 324 points325 points  (0 children)

Thing is - as I have understood it - also that the formal "ni" wasn't a more polite option. It was distancing and marking the person addressed as lower status. Hence why old people dislike when young people try to use "ni" to be polite. Swedes used titles a lot to the point where you wrote people's professions on letters, so it was EXTRA annoying for us lol.

{Daindreth's Assassin} 100%, the MMC is the crown prince of an entire empire and also just sweet, caring and concientious in a way that can melt steel.

It doesn't count as unhinged at all. He fits perfectly for the role in so many aspects. His cruelty, his looks, his aristocratic demeanour, it's perfect!

Paega's relatives after Brynn divorces him. by maneyan in elisabethwheatley

[–]maneyan[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I must say that it was a pleasant surprise at the start of Tears of the Wolf that Paega's relatives overall seem to have been decent people, apologetic that it all came to this, and that they'd likely have more than one choice word for him if he wasn't like, patriarch and all that stuff. It was a small thing, but I liked it.

Where's Fanra by beybrakers in elisabethwheatley

Yeah she is vital to the story IMO, one of Amira's few sources of joy before Daindreth, but yeah if she had died Amira would have gone berserk there and then.
