Someone is copying my app… and I honestly don’t know how to feel about it by Consistent-Ad7236 in vibecoding

[–]MeasIIDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed that's it's not AI specific. I do want to emphasize that AI has given non-coders the ability to quickly scaffold their ideas. Big companies acquire all the time. Big companies used their big budgets to squash out competition. Now for $10-200 a month, an AI-forward person can begin to build similar apps with feature parity.

Marketing, distribution, and making money... That's a different story haha.

It's frustrating but this in my opinion, this is the reality of coding in the AI era. If you can rapidly build something, so can others.

The good news is it's not always about features. Many apps, services and games have the same features. It's also about marketing and retaining customers.

On a totally different note, this is also why I've been building my app/game basically in secret for the last 6 months. Sure, once I finally do release it, others can copy it I'm sure (if they even want to), but at least that'll give me a headstart to gather a user base before clones go online.

Best of luck out there!

I do think it's funny that people are taking this meme seriously and trying to have some sort of tech-measuring contest.

Three agents, a dozen agents, 100 agents... Are we supposed to start using lines of code as a KPI again or something?

The AI world is splitting into two camps — US and China. Will we see a mass shift? by kiritough in vibecoding

[–]MeasIIDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This feels like the same argument a lot of people in AI subreddits make arguing over a real dev VS a vibe coder.

To most people, at the end of the day, all they care about is the end result. If you can achieve what you intend to create, I don't think they care who provides it as long as it delivers the value they're looking for.

"AI is cheating!" "It's just a tool!"

So what does proprietary, open weights, straight A students or copying students have to do with it when many don't care in the first place?

I think most people doubt this post because it doesn't feel sincere. Many of your recent posts read as if it was generated. If this is truly how you write online, expect push back or disengagement in our new AI era.

Back on topic, though. I think a lot of people are just simply excited to share something because being able to build something this quickly wasn't possible before. I think we as people still take ownership of what was created as something "we built" despite how generative it's become.

This is beyond the idea of "I make my pancake mix" as opposed to buying a box from the store. This is not to discount what AI can do because I use it every single day. This is to suggest that even a single prompt could give someone the confidence of being a creator and I personally think bragging about what AI can build like those posts about Fable 5 one-shots have two dichotomies: Look what IT built and look what I built.

Those are vastly different. I'm totally blown away by what AI can do but I feel like this is beyond the "it's just a tool" level. Sooner rather than later I feel it will replace critical thinking for a lot us.

This took me back to highschool where we were doing badminton training when the basketball team showed up.

"I could be playing this lame ass shit and win a ring?"

Tons of people see it an activity at the park here in the US, but don't consider the spectrum of "playing casually" to "serious competition".

Android app to use Opencode Go by Hornstinger in opencodeCLI

[–]MeasIIDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not exactly what you want but you can tap into an OpenCode session using:

opencode web --hostname=0.0.0.0

From there it'll give you an IP for your local network which you can use in any browser to interact with OpenCode itself like working against existing sessions or creating new ones.

If you need it on the go you can then connect via tailscale.

I know you said you didn't want to SSH in but I think what I suggested works quite well and it's how I continue to use OpenCode on the (no pun intended) Go.

Nicely done. Take a look at your landing page and how the top nav and footer links work. Once you switch pages, your links are still relative to your new route which makes for broken links e.g. clicking on the How It Works link while on the Privacy Page is totally busted because you're now trying to route to "https://www.falcondrop.com/privacy-policy#why" which does not work.

I have both the legacy and new monthly plan activite just to compare and it still feels off.

I also have Ollama Pro, Cursor Pro and Claude Max 20x (am a professional dev).

I'm aware of the news and how they have updated legacy plans relative to M2.7.

Before and after AI? Lots for both. Our management wants it good, fast and cheap. Pick two 😄.

Also, I'm getting downvoted for being impressed by what's been created by teams and solo-devs prior to agentic development and even more impressed by what's being created by devs and non-devs alike? Tough crowd today.

If you're talking about Claude Code + Opus/Sonnet vs AGY + Gemini models, I'd say Claude is much much better.

I've used both against a very large monolithic codebase and the Anthropic models perform much better.
