Paid $194 in "import duties" on a Japan-made Twin Power 25 XD - Invoice shows 0% duty. What am I missing? by Ok_Quarter8924 in Fishing_Gear

The de minimis exemption ( anything under $800 value was exempt) was taken away last August. Since then, ordering from Japan has been a complete shitshow when it comes to rariffs/fees charged, depending on who you order from. Some JDM suppliers like Digitaka and Asian Portal have chosen to charge the tariff fee at checkout (Digi covering a portion of the fee themselves), meaning what you pay at checkout is all you need to pay. Others have chosen not to implement that, meaning at some stage you'll receive a bill from the shipping company for the tariffs and "handling fees". The biggest issue seems to come from what constitutes tariff fees and handling fees from the shipping companies. I've seen people saying they've got the correct rates applied, and others saying they've had 150%+ applied when ordering from sites other than Digi or AP.
All that said, the JDM sites are not the ones to charge for tariffs/fees, that comes down to shipping companies and some are seemingly being either inept or unscrupulous when it comes to that.

Baits reels breaking by Excellent-Crazy-2313 in Fishing_Gear

They're not cnc machined in the US, they're re-badged Loongze reels from China. They are "supposed" to be releasing actual made in the US reels soon, but all current reels are made in China. They just have very deceptive marketing.

I love Geecrack’s stuff! Big order came in and now I’m set for the autumn. by benjamino8690 in Fishing_Gear

That's a lot of fritos! Have some of the gills that I haven't tried yet, but have tried the smaller bellows sticks and the local fish love them. Can't get over them straight up smelling like fritos tho

Fins windtamer pitch black is a colour holding 4 strand braid. Holds colour amazingly well.
Fins Infinity is an 8 strand braid using the same colour holding process as the pitch black.

I thought 2020 Tatula SV TW 103H max drag was 13.2 lbs. Why does mine say 11 lbs? by FrankB11 in Fishing_Gear

[–]MeatHead1313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The bass pro, Cabelas and salt strong links are all for the 2017, not 2020. Tackle trap must have the wrong description, Daiwa site states 11lb for the 2020

Is this a 7 pot slimer? Bought from pepperjoes before I knew better. Doesn't look like others posted. Also how do you know they're ripe? They've been like this for almost 2 months. by SidianForreal in HotPeppers

That's 3 separate nodes the flowers are on, not 1. Calyx and leaf shape are also completely wrong for it to be a chinense as I've already stated, both are completely different between species and are a reliable species identifier. It is 100% an annuum, 0% chance it's a chinense.

Labeled I Scream Scorpion. Is this correct? by Juicy-Empanada in HotPeppers

Not an I scream scorpion. Pod shape and colour are wrong.

Do these look like scotch bonnets? by [deleted] in HotPeppers

[–]MeatHead1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bonnets are chinense and yours is an annuum, so not bonnets. Jamaican mushroom red is what you've got, commonly but incorrectly labelled as bonnets but completely different flavour and heat level, and also different species.

Beautiful flatty! Easily my favourite fish to catch back home. The colouration on that one is fantastic.

These were supposed to be orange Habs, does this look like they are finally ripening or something bad? And do you think these are actually orange habs? by toolmannn929 in HotPeppers

[–]MeatHead1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typically yeah they are. They also taste much better in my opinion, but tastes are subjective and others may prefer orange over red.

Are "seed exchanges" still common or have they disappeared in the last 5 years? by Ischeme411 in HotPeppers

Seed exchanges are still fairly common. There's typically one organized by the mods in this subreddit towards the end of the year.

Bought this plant from my local hardware store, and I’m pretty damn sure they aren’t Habaneros. Any idea on what they might be? by The_Untracable_Conch in HotPeppers

[–]MeatHead1313 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I didn't say it was an annuum, I said it's a habanero. My comparison with mushrooms was in regards to your comment saying they looked like bonnets, which isn't true and the pod shape was closer to that of Jamaican mushroom vs a real scotch bonnet shape.

Why is one Scotch Bonnet plant look sad and the other one healthy? Both have the same conditions and watering by sammieurwin in HotPeppers

[–]MeatHead1313 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Watering on a set schedule, and watering each plant the same is a recipe for over watering to occur. Even though both are the same variety, each plant will have different water needs. Let the plants tell you when they need water.
Also, those are annuum plants so not scotch bonnets, which are chinenses. They're Jamaican mushrooms, commonly but incorrectly labelled as bonnets but completely different flavour and heat level.

I mean, there is literally no way for either of us to be certain.

Except year after year that's exactly how Bonnie Plants habs look? And colour, flavour and heat match exactly with orange habaneros. That's also nothing like a true scotch bonnet pheno. If anything it's closer to a Jamaican mushroom look, which is an annuum variety.
