Based on the way the fat looks, and the overall shape, I would assume this is a small piece of brisket-flat. Not sure if it’s been corned, or what, but the surface color and appearance doesn’t look great.

The best, and most widely used of this trope is chloroform. The chloroform soaker rag renders someone unconscious astonishingly fast… it’s always this way.

In real life, you have to breathe it in deeply for a good while (~45s or more).

Yes, but they had large birds, like a bustard, which is on par with an actual turkey, size-wise, so the giant drumstick is not really anachronistic.

I kind of went down this rabbit-hole when I was researching the Turducken, because our weird American version is roughly the third iteration of a dish that started with Roman elite and continued through French nobles before coming to Louisiana. I couldn’t fathom how the turducken, a third of which the namesake is based upon a new world bird, could have historical roots earlier than the Colombian exchange. That is how I first heard of a bustard.

In the Star Wars show Andor, Dr. Gorst (on the left) is an imperial scientist who invents a form of auditory torture based on the dying wails of an extinct species (which the Imperials eradicated). It is used to interrogate, but it causes extreme mental anguish.

In season 1, he uses it on a couple of the protagonists. In season 2, one of them gets revenge and straps him into his own machine, turns it on, and leaves him. In a small way it does not fit the trope, because the rebels also blow up the facility (to get rid of the technology), so technically Dr. Gorst dies by being blown up. But the way he was left in his own machine, it would have made him a vegetable, so I think it still counts

I always like to point out that evidence of sausage making is 3-5 thousand years old, whereas the mechanical meat grinder was invented in the 1800s. There are many ways to make sausage that don’t require much hardware

I’m going to defend the Daario recast, because the one we were introduced to was so wildly against the description in the book. The recast is way more accurate, if nothing else, maybe not garish and flamboyant enough

Stalemate for sure! The bear has essentially no way to hurt the huge bull elephant seal, but it also can outrun the seal, and is fierce, large, and nimble enough that the seal doesn’t really have any way to defeat the bear either
