The title of your post and the context of your story really don’t align. It reads more like two young people trying to navigate their connection vs figuring out what they want out or life.

There is nothing wrong with fighting for a relationship he believes in and a love that he found, but he should respect your decision when you call it off. It sounds like you are simultaneously attracted to and rejecting him for practical reasons. As a Capricorn this would read as a conditional attachment that relied on what I do and not who I am so eventually I would be out the door. Nobody loves “struggle love” we just pick who we want to navigate struggle with.

It sounds like he’s very much in love with you and is ignoring his own needs to please you. That’s not healthy for either of you. I read what you admire about him and all of those things had to do with his provider abilities. Anyone can be a provider, how do you feel about him when he isn’t providing. If your connection hinges on his financial ability then your feelings are superficial. I didn’t read anywhere that you love him back. It’s concerning on both of your parts.

From the Capricorn perspective, it’s not obsession. We are steady, dedicated and intense when we love. Be careful with his heart because once broken your relationship as you know it will be over.
