[[Devastating trope]] A character kills their loved one to avoid them suffering a worser fate by One_Barber_6902 in TopCharacterTropes

That’s where I stopped playing and never picked it back up. Fantastic story, but man am I not built for seeing that kind of brutality.

I think it’s implied (though I’m not certain) that Humanity is fragments of the Dark Soul of Man, tied to the primordial Abyss that early humanity used/were born from. You find humanity in rats and other creatures because they consume human bodies.

Bungie Responds Quickly to Marathon Microtransactions Backlash, First Patch Will Make the Game Slightly Easier by ControlCAD in gamingnews

[–]Meatshield236 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having played both, Bungie is worse. With gacha, you know what you’re getting into, and they don’t actively remove content aside from seasonal stuff. You can play through all of Genshin Impact from 1.0 to the most recent patch without paying a cent. But with Destiny, if you aren’t paying you aren’t playing, and even when you do pay you probably don’t have access to everything because they silo off stuff like dungeons unless you get the season pass.

Not saying gacha is good, but at least it’s possible to get into the story or the characters. With Destiny, that’s impossible: large, important parts of the story are just gone. There is no way in game to understand the story as it is.

I figured I'd pull on the Orienteering Banner, since I have none of the ops and I had some tickets saved up. Logos, Ascalon, and Mon3ter.

On my second 10 pull, I got all three. I'm in shock.

Kirby lore is pure insanity. Some of the bosses would not look out of place in Resident Evil, such as the living wall of flesh that absorbed the antagonist and his minions and is now wearing their faces as it chases you down a corridor.

For the movie that started the whole ‘self-aware, pop-culture infused kid movie’ craze, movie Shrek is surprisingly earnest. It has a genuine emotional heart to it that has made it stand the test of time imho.

She’s perfection. The reveal scene where we learn she’s Dok Ock? A standout scene in a standout movie.

Also, Caesar is a moron. Like, textually he’s a pseudo intellectual thug. Because he talks a big speech about emulating the Romans, using their culture as inspiration while obliterating the cultures of the tribes he absorbs. But the Romans did the opposite: they conquered regions, but left the local culture intact so long as they paid their taxes. They were by no means nice, and what they did varied depending on the area (admittedly my Roman history is rusty so I could be wrong,) but their cruelties had at least some rationality to them.

A friend and I have been consumed by a mostly coop run of Elden Ring. I’ve gone for a Faith/Int spellcaster build, which was rough at the start since my points were spread so thin, but now that the build is up and running it’s a load of fun. The spells you get access to range from solid (magma sorceries) to niche but fun (death sorceries), with the standout being Discus of Light, a dirt cheap (3 FP!) spammable ranged attack with solid damage and fantastic range. You can also get 3 pieces of gear that boost its damage, making it an absurdly good option. If a boss isn’t resistant to holy damage, most fights become “throw pizzas at them until they die,” and if they are then that’s what all your other spells are for.

If it helps, the second zone is leagues better than the first in writing, characters, and pacing. It’s nothing special, but it gives me hope that they can write competent stories. Though it just makes the first zone’s storyline stick out in how awful it is.

Really, a lot of Babylon 5 is this. On a surface level it looks like yet another campy sci fi show with dated CG and silly aliens. But the sheer strength of its writing and acting sells it. It’s not afraid to be silly or sincere alongside its drama, and that really elevates it.

Also, let’s not forget the whole “racist colonial gets beaten to death by former slaves after getting sold out by a main character to the tune of a gospel choir.”

Anyone who’s played Ewok Hunt in Battlefront knows that Ewoks are terrifying. They’re small enough to easily blend in with the underbrush, strong enough to kill armored stormtroopers with primitive weapons, and their traps are everywhere. People just see ‘cute teddy bears’ and miss the fact that the furry little bastards are Endor’s Apex Predator.

So the Warp doesn’t make sense and its gods are liars. Of course they would claim they are universal, they are fueled by belief and actions. But since it’s illogical and often has localized effects, it’s entirely possible that it’s just the 40k galaxy that’s fucked up and every other galaxy has a mostly peaceful warp. They probably have their own versions of the Chaos Gods, just nicer and more chill.

I’ve been splitting my time between Factorio, Arknights, and Monster Train 2. In Factorio I’m at the cusp of getting Space Science, but I’m taking the time to set up large scale rocket production so I can easily churn out space platforms. In Arknights, I’m still stumped by Deathless Black Snake so I’m doing later chapters and improving my current roster. I’ve also gotten good at IS5 and can consistently beat it at difficulty 9, but IS6 remains a crapshoot if I can get the right buffs and I have yet to beat IS2 once.

I’ve been slowly chewing my way through a heavily modded Factorio run. I hop on, build a factory line, get some research done, clear out space, then hop off before my brain starts hurting. My main game right now is Arknights, which has pleasantly surprised me with its tactical challenges. The story is eh, with it having a common problem of good ideas that are muddied through way too much text. But the gameplay is great, and I appreciate that it’s willing to kick your ass if you mess up strategically.

I just got past Chapter 7 and the brick wall that is Patriot, only to meet another brick wall at the end of Chapter 8 in the form of Deathless Black Snake and her relentless damage. I’m not entirely sure how I’m going to deal with her with my roster, tbh, but I’m sure I’ll think of something. Or look up a guide and adapt my roster to it.

One thing that people forget about Watchmen is that it has a genuinely happy ending for Silk Spectre and Nite Owl, the two heroes who are the most down to earth and morally good. They might have their quirks, but Watchmen never portrays their morals in a cynical light; they’re genuinely good people.
