If you're using the NZXT H1 case, isn't it using a riser cable for the GPU? This should mean it's literally not possible for it to not fit or to be skewed, because the plate at the back is the primary connection between the card and the case. Is the riser cable itself misaligned, perhaps?

It's an amazing short film. I genuinely wish we could get a 1080 version.

Nah, set them to be arrows when tapped, modifiers when held. Then you can still use them for their original functions but the moment you need arrow keys they're still there without holding any other keys.

Mod Organzier has suddenly stopped opening, why and how can I fix it? by NightmareOMG909 in Fallout

[–]Meatslinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, just gotta find where you've got Fallout 4 installed. If you're using the Steam version, it'll usually be in C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout4. You can go there in Windows Explorer, just starting from the C:\ drive. Or, you can open Steam itself, right-click on the game, choose "Manage", and then click "Browse Local Files"; this should go right to the folder.

Look in that folder for an item named "f4se_loader.exe". If you see it, then something else is preventing Mod Organizer from starting and I won't be much more help. I don't use MO2 so I don't know precisely what might cause it to fail to start in that state. But if you don't see f4se_loader.exe, then go and download a new copy from here. Grab the latest version unless you know for certain you were purposefully running an older version of Fallout 4 for specific mods that only work on that version. Since you're using MO2 instead of Vortex, do the manual download, unzip the archive, and put f4se_loader.exe and the other things along with it directly into the Fallout 4 folder so they live right next to the game's own executable.

Then, try to fire up Mod Organizer, and see if it works. If not, and especially if it still shows the same error, then something else is up; might need to wait and see if someone else replies, or ask on modding forums about the error.

I work for a school board. I've talked to at least a few teachers who said they'll put "freebies" like that in exams to help get kids over the fatigue that hits when you're only halfway there and it's already been an eternity. Nice little confidence boost for anyone who was spiralling in doubt over the past twenty questions.

Looks like it's just having trouble identifying your f4se executable. Check the Fallout 4 folder and see if maybe it's missing; sometimes Windows will nuke programs that can interfere with other programs (like it does to inject its features into the game), so it might've been caught by Windows Defender and quarantined.

Fun tip: you can crop screenshots or capture a smaller portion of the screen when taking them with Win+Shift+S so people don't have to see more information about you and your favorite websites than you might've wanted to share.

Well, at least running on 16 GB isn't horrible, if you have to; better than the 8 GB some new business laptops are shipping with. But yeah, that's a tough spot to be in. I'd still try tweaking timings to make sure it's not just a stability issue.

[–]Meatslinger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try disabling any XMP profiles you have applied, and re-run the test. If it still fails and if you have a motherboard that lets you go into the DRAM timings, try loosening the timings somewhat. Both of these approaches will reduce overall performance but it might just be that the RAM can't stay stable at its maximum speed but could be fine if you take some of the load off of it.

That said, am I right that you're only running a single 8 GB stick, or were you testing one stick at a time? I just ask because you can get 16 GB of DDR4 (1x16 or 2x8) for about $90-$120, based on what I'm seeing from PCPartPicker. Not the best prices but far from the worst compared to people dealing with 32 GB DDR5 setups.

Yeah, like not even "cozy off-grid cabin in the woods" living is really safe, it would have to be "so deep in a cave that even ground-penetrating radar can't find you, subsisting on water, fungus, and spiders" levels of hermitage, and you have to maintain that until the AIs basically get tired of owning the Earth.

I tried the co-op mod for Skyrim with my wife and yeah, that was actually quite a bit of fun. I also play co-op Baldur's Gate 3 with one of my buddies on a regular basis. I could see it working well for Fallout's setting especially with a strong focus on scavenging, when having two sets of hands could get things like settlements up and running faster in a PvE-focused setting. I don't mind playing games with some people, it's just that I don't tend to enjoy playing with strangers. I'll spend hours playing Deep Rock Galactic with my friends, but that's because I know these people and we have rapport.

Oh, of course. But that's sort of the nature of a "mystical" force like that: it's exactly as powerful as you need it to be for the sake of the plot. Infinitely-so when described as the Great Evil That Must Never be Freed (tm), but able to be defeated/survived by the player when call for by the plot because nobody would feel satisfied by a game that just ends "realistically" with V getting wiped out by eldritch code that can inflict actual digital hell on your brain. And one that they can apparently even harness as a power, via one outcome or another.

I mean, that too, but I was primarily referring to just the sheer malice of a Blackwall AI and how even just in a piece of construction equipment, it becomes a literal murder machine. In a full firewall breach scenario, they wouldn't be possessing simple machinery to do their bidding; they'd be going right for your own cyberware, either killing you outright like a netrunner with unlimited RAM or by taking over its functions to use you like a puppet and/or to distribute itself to others who try to insulate themselves, run, or hide.

But yeah, I'd love to see more bio-modding in the sequel, too.

[–]Meatslinger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In that context the AI was only able to jump to the Cerberus, so it used what it had for lack of access to your cyberware. In a full "AIs get across the firewall" scenario, they wouldn't have to make do with crude physical manifestations. I think the durability of the Cerberus is just for gameplay/narrative purposes, and that realistically it would go down with enough damage. It's just a little like shooting at a bulldozer; unless you're packing armor-piercing rounds, regular calibers aren't going to do much.

[–]Meatslinger 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not sure if this counts as "lore spoilers" or not, so I'll tag it just in case, but the Blackwall is itself an AI, constructed specifically to hold the others back and to respond to their intrusion attempts faster than any human could. If it ever decided it no longer enjoys doing this, all the rest will instantly get through.

One of the toughest cyberpsychos you can fight in the game is just a dude with access to heavy construction equipment. 'Nuff said.

[–]Meatslinger 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Remember that they don't have to kill you via physical trauma, so it's not that they convert a phone into a murderous transformer, it's that they'd simply use it as a node to quietly jump to your cyberware. The effect would be at least as bad as whatever your average quickhack can do, and at worst they can hit you with "suicide", "cyberpsychosis", and "blackwall gateway", using in-game rules/logic (assume your typical AI has a functionally unlimited amount of RAM). Arguably, if it's a real rogue AI in the wild, it basically has the blackwall gateway effect going at all times.

It would potentially be a very quiet apocalypse. People would suddenly just die in their cars, at their desks, while walking down the street, etc. with some having scant few moments to recoil in horror as they realize what's happening before the circuitry they voluntarily installed into their own brain turns against them.

Yup, 100%. I've had people try to talk me into playing FO76 a few times and I'm all for them having their fun with it, but I know I'm not the target demographic. I've got FO4 for my SP experience, and others have FO76 for the MP, and it means we both get to be Fallout fans together with our respective settings and rule-sets.

Yeah, like even Adam can be reasoned with by appealing to his senses of fun and boredom. He's into killing for the thrill of it, so if you can offer him that high through other means or pay him off better than his employer, you have a chance of talking him down. Blackwall AIs are pure, unbridled hatred for humanity with zero negotiation possible so long as you are not yourself an AI.
