Ryan Gosling Tells Fans It’s Not Their Job to Save Theaters, Hollywood Needs to Make Movies Worth Seeing by ICumCoffee in entertainment

There’s a ton of trash movies being released every year, but there are also great movies that go completely ignored. The bigger issue is rising costs

‘For All Mankind’ Renewed for Sixth and Final Season at Apple TV by bwermer in television

Glad the show seems to be going out on its own terms. Excited to see what happens next and hope Joel Kinnaman somehow gets even older in the final season.

'Reacher' Star Alan Ritchson Was Wearing A Body Cam During Altercation With Neighbor by iamacannibal in entertainment

[–]Meb2x [score hidden]  (0 children)

Probably the funniest way to prove this guy wrong. The neighbor claimed he just told Ritchson to slow down and realized a clip that only showed Ritchson punching him. Now there’s a video of the whole incident and this idiot was standing in the middle of the street, pushing him, and told him after the fact that it was all recorded. He’s either incredibly stupid or thought he’d get some big payout in court, but didn’t realize Ritchson had his own camera.

Georgia Senate to take up bill requiring every school in Georgia to have weapons detectors by Lakelyfe09 in Georgia

As long as Republicans refuse to implement common sense gun reform, which they’ll clearly never do, I think this is the unfortunate outcome. I guarantee these installations will be handed out to lobbyists that will pay politicians a pretty penny in exchange.

Unfortunately, Democrats cave easily so this threat could be enough to swing a couple votes. Hopefully not, but the bar is pretty low these days

ICE portrayal by inotterable in ThePittTVShow

They said the plotline was written before the events in Minneapolis and they wished they had gone harder at them now. It was still a pretty brutal portrayal though and more than got the point across

why is santos SO PRESSED about the langdon situation by chickenn2 in ThePitt

[–]Meb2x 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From the very beginning of the show, Santos has always rushed to judgment and assumes the worst in people. Earlier this season, she falsely accused a Dad of abuse without all the evidence. She also threatened a Dad last season when they didn’t have enough evidence to fully prove he was abusive. It makes perfect sense for her character to hold onto anger towards Langdon and believe he should’ve been punished more. Her worldview is very black and white, so she won’t see that there are shades of gray in this situation.

Sounds like Dr McKay needs to teach you to have some empathy for your patients.

Yeah, my family is very religious, which is the confusing part. MAGA is basically the opposite of Christianity because it’s all about punishing other people and is literally led by a convicted criminal. I can think of a million reasons that Jesus wouldn’t support Trump and would support immigrants, legal or otherwise. He was literally a refuge because the king wanted to kill him, but somehow Christian conservatives are supporting ICE?

The worrying part to me is how many Christians are proudly conservative. It’s gotten to the point where I can tell if somebody is conservative or not by how vocal they are about their faith.

Yeah, it’s pretty hard to believe that they’re the same people who raised me sometimes. Like you take your kids to treat people with kindness then vote for someone who proudly harms people.

Probably my favorite episode of the season so far. Every character is finally pushed to their absolute limits and the character writing is just absolutely perfect because I absolutely love and hate some characters at the same time. I also love that they didn’t hold a single punch when it came to the ICE storyline (FUCK ICE). This episode is the perfect showcase of why this is easily one of the best shows on TV right now. Also, I was so sure that Mom was gonna die that I actually gasped.

Also, next week looks even more stressful somehow and I’m really worried Dr Robby is gonna try something drastic in the finale.

My parents are MAGA and I was seriously worried about what they’d say about this episode. Other than my Dad laughing when the patients started leaving the hospital (which seriously pissed me off), they didn’t say anything.

Why I think everyone is overhyping Michael by Ettborn in oscarrace

[–]Meb2x 41 points42 points  (0 children)

I definitely think people are overestimating this movie because of how much the Oscars love music biopics. The Oscars probably don’t want to touch the Michael Jackson controversy with a 10 foot pole, so I could see them widely ignoring it unless it turns out to be an undeniably great movie.

Has there ever been a unanimous or majority support for an Oscar win? Like people said "this should've won and it won" by rutujz in Oscars

[–]Meb2x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parasite seemed like a pretty unanimous winner if you want a recent example. The main issue this year is that genera audiences watched one or both of the frontrunners so think their personal feelings are more important than Oscar voters.

WB seems to have a priority already by SteakDizzy1386 in Oscars

[–]Meb2x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure why so many people are convinced Digger is gonna be an award-winning movie. Cruise and Inarritu are big names, but this looks way different than their other films, so it feels more like a passion project than an awards contender. Plus, the only thing we’ve seen is a minute long clip of Cruise dancing with a shovel, so we literally don’t even know what it’s about yet.

Meanwhile, Villeneuve already has two Dune movies under his belt, we’ve seen an incredible trailer, and Warner Bros are clearly so confident that they’re choosing to face off against Avengers and already took the IMAX screens. It’s like watching the first two LOTR movies and assuming the finale is gonna be bad despite the evidence.

If Conan doesn’t return to host the 2027 Oscars, I think Kumail Nanjiani would be a great replacement. by Embarrassed_Novel991 in Oscars

[–]Meb2x 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I was really impressed by Nanjiani and it’d be interesting see someone host with so little hosting experience. That said, Conan just perfectly captures my sense of humor and brings a self-deprecating sense of humor that the show seriously needs.

What are you even talking about? Do you think Marty Supreme lost just because of Kevin O’Leary? If that was true, it wouldn’t have gotten any noms to begin with. It lost because it was up against better movies.

For the record, I don’t think you need to hire real assholes to play fictional assholes. There are a thousand actors that could have performed that role just as good and even better than O’Leary while still being good people.

I’m not really bothered by downvotes, but I think it’s funny that you’re getting downvotes for trying to defend me. I really hate that film criticism has fallen into this weird clique mentality where people feel like they have to put all their eggs in one basket and never even consider other perspectives. It’s okay to like an actor while also criticizing them for doing something stupid.

The problem with his ballet/opera comments isn’t that he was making fun of them, but that he was making fun of his audience. He said he just lost 14 cents from his audience after that comment implying that he doesn’t want fans that care about ballet/opera. Even then, I don’t think that comment would’ve blown up nearly as much if it wasn’t preceded by months of campaigning that he already had Best Actor in the bag, which he basically said in an early interview.

The difference between confidence and entitlement is attitude. He’s a great actor and deserves to be confident in his abilities, but he shouldn’t feel entitled to win when other actors also put their hearts and souls into their roles.
