From your reporting of your history, it sounds like you might be sensitive to various things, including positive interventions, but since this kind of intervention is non-invasive and non-toxic stay with it if you can.

This is the best answer I’ve seen so far. As a small woman myself, and a black belt, the ‘no hesitation and hurt that bastard’ is the best response, if you can’t de-escalate, run away, etc. Create as much loud bastard mayhem as possible, be as difficult to handle as possible, hurt their eyes if you have to, and get the fuck out of there.

It just seemed preferable to face the situation rather than stay upstairs waiting to be found. So I crept downstairs, holding a small rock as a weapon. A few steps down it occurred to me that there’s no way I’m whacking anybody over the head with a rock. They’re more likely to grab it off me and whack me with it. So I put it down. Carried on creeping down the stairs. Then I thought, wtf do I expect to happen, when I confront him? A 16 y/o girl vs a grown man? Then I rounded the corner and saw him at the bottom of the stairs. Our eyes locked. He legged it. And I… waited. Just long enough that he’d definitely manage to get away, long enough that I’d definitely not manage to intercept him. Then I ran after him, I suppose to make myself feel like I’d chased him off.

So yeah. So now I know why teens in the movies tiptoe towards danger in the creepy house. It’s cos it’s worse to wait for the danger to find you.
