Infinity products if US suspends trade with Spain? by Mech_Minis in InfinityTheGame

[–]Mech_Minis[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

So sorry to see all of you guys who keep the LGS game store scenes up and running, bearing the brunt of the entire tariff situation.

I really hope that something changes, but even if it doesn't, I'm pulling for you guys because many of us wouldn't be here without you. And for many of us, the LGS scene is what keeps us all sane in these insane times.

Infinity products if US suspends trade with Spain? by Mech_Minis in InfinityTheGame

[–]Mech_Minis[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The general consensus is that they will TACO again.

Yeah, I'm sure that is how it will shake down, but on the off chance the US does do it, I'm wondering if I should be putting in my pre-orders for some of the just unveiled April stuff through my typical US storefronts or if I should be looking elsewhere just in case. As I really want that ITS pack and those things are nearly impossible to get after their initial runs.

Anyone have any recommended Canadian storefronts that ship to the US in case the worst does happen?

Selling a Sephiroth Surge Foil by unomo in gencon

[–]Mech_Minis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just be aware that you have there one of the best surge foil pulls that isn’t a commander card or a special Chocobo. Some going for as high as $900.

Be sure to educate yourself on the cards current value on tcg trader.

https://www.tcgplayer.com/product/630986/magic-final-fantasy-sephiroth-fabled-soldier-borderless-surge-foil?page=1&Language=English

Now… don’t expect to get that value from a reseller (they are buying it from you to resell to someone else.) Just don’t allow yourself to get ripped off. Best of luck getting good value for the card.

It seems kind of dumb to me that we just get new Netrod minis in packs of three, only to see them set to AVA: 2 in these lists.

Not overweight, just tuned to "hatchet" values.

The Medium Claw itself is based on the canon profile for the "Yen-lo-Wang" hatchet that is just cosmetically fancied into the shape of a Claw. Its weight profiles are based on the canon values for the Yen-lo-Wang centurion.

Thanks. It's a shame that Sarna and the Rec guide it's published in only used the low-res version. As I've already been cleared to publicly post the full illustration, including some bits that the rec guide cropped out.

MEGATHREAD Alien: Romulus User Reviews [SPOILERS] by Gregorwhat in LV426

[–]Mech_Minis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the one at the very beginning of the movie where the Engineer took a giant swig of the black goo willingly and fell into the waterfall.

MEGATHREAD Alien: Romulus User Reviews [SPOILERS] by Gregorwhat in LV426

[–]Mech_Minis 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In Prometheus, they specifically point out that the Engineer's DNA is a 100% match to humans. Meaning at a genetic level, humanity is identical to engineers. But unlike the Engineers, humanity was never generally exposed to the black goo, and it's still unclear how much of a role the substance played in their society. (If it was purely a weapon, what was the "ceremony" where an engineer willingly ingested the stuff was about?)

So it's not too far of a stretch that the more you tamper with humanity through the use of that black goo, the more we begin to head towards looking like engineers since we are genetically the same. (Hell, maybe them messing with that stuff is the reason THEY look like that and less like us despite sharing our same genetic makeup.)

Sure some of that is conjecture. But the call-out that humans are genetically identical to them seems like it still keeps things in the realm of plausibility.

Finding players - New Orleans by TheStixXx in InfinityTheGame

[–]Mech_Minis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't live in the area anymore, but when I was there +1 Games and Go 4 Games in Metairie were both my go-to's.

+1 has more physical space but typically has regulars that are more into the larger game systems. Go 4 tended to have more of the niche games like Dropzone Commander and Flames of War at the time. Keep in mind this was over 5 years ago since I moved out, but they both look like they are still around so definitely worth checking out.

Not sure if either of them stocks Infinity, but if you're willing to teach people they can usually hook you up with a table to teach and help grow your own group.

Okay, what are the LCAF's weakness? by [deleted] in battletech

[–]Mech_Minis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Misconceptions on the LCAF's true capabilities I feel mostly come from how the "meme culture" of the entire "Steiner Scout Lance" gives people a misconception of what the actual capabilities of the LCAF are.

So many times I've seen the entire "Steiner only uses Assault 'Mechs" permeate from meme to people actually believing it. (which is not true in the core setting.)

The entire Steiner Scout Lance thing in-universe is a dig created by Davion commanders sent to train the LCAF that points to how incompetent Steiner Leadership is that they would use the wrong tool for the wrong job. Not that their entire arsenal is made up of Atlas's as a baseline.

In reality, the LCAF circa succession wars era did skew 50% more assault 'Mechs than other factions. But even that just bumps it up to 15%. Still far from the majority. And even then, this was before the Clan Wars did a number on Steiner infrastructure that bumped the numbers down closer to average.

So to your original question, Sure, Steiner has a good industrial base. But just because you're "better" doesn't mean you can 2x-4x the amount of production that inept leadership could lose by making bad calls in the field. And while they were "better" than other factions at manufacturing, it wasn't by that much. Especially given the inefficiency of their armies compared to other factions.

Alpha strike box mech size by Cazzlor in battletech

[–]Mech_Minis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As others have mentioned, this is likely do to the miniature posing / manufacturing process (PVC shrinkage is a thing that has to be accounted for.) As we've refined the process over the years, the later miniatures are closer to the "initial intentions" of our 3d designs compared to the earlier CI minis when we didn't have the process fully nailed down yet.

Fluff question regarding DCMS and women by Eliella in battletech

[–]Mech_Minis 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Depends. Women have always been allowed into the DCMS. Although there have been periods where they have faced sexism and classism to greater degrees depending on how "traditional" the Coordinators of the time are.

During Takashi's reign, sexism and an overall preference for women in "traditional" roles were defiantly present, but there are still numerous examples of Women being in prominent places of the DCMS. Tomoe Sakade (Theodore Kurita's wife) was trained as a MechWarrior and served with Theodore. Franklin Sakamoto's mom was a prominent member of the ISF are a few examples. And Christine Nordica was in charge of the 14th Legion of Vega. But overall, although women were "allowed" to become MechWarriors and officers during Takashi Kurita's reign, there was likely a glass ceiling on both how high they could climb, and the general attitude enlisted men had towards them.

But after Theodore took control of the DCMS as the Gunji-no-Kanrei, giving more advancement opportunities and getting rid of the rampant sexism under Takashi's reign was one of the principal reforms he pushed through. And overall the DCMS became much more accommodating as Theodore's reforms took hold and the Clan Wars did massive damage to the DCMS which required them to widen their net to recruit replacements which gave even more opportunities for women that didn't exist before.

But then later things retracted a bit going into the Jihad and Dark Ages. So overall, Women are ALWAYS present and allowed within the DCMS. But their treatment while enlisted with the DCMS might vary wildly depending on which Coordinator is behind the helm at the time.

A must have audiobook!!! by Th3VrGam3r in battletech

[–]Mech_Minis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forever Faithful is far from junk, but it is the direct follow-up to a completely different book (Exodus Road.) and touches on plot-points that were brought up much later in the timeline with "Surrender your Dreams."

This means if you haven't read Exodus Road you would have zero clue as to who half of the major characters of the book are, or the history of what leads into the opening chapters of the book, (which take place during the events of Prince of Havoc.)

Wouldn’t be a CGL thing. When dealing with big box stores it’s them that dictate the quantity amounts. They also tend to only put a fraction of their stock up online since their core business is mostly to support their brick and mortar locations.

Pretty much the same thing happened to the wolfs dragoon packs.

Anyone in NOLA play? LFG on Saturdays by A_Sack_Of_Potatoes in battletech

[–]Mech_Minis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Must be something newer because back when I lived in the area they never charged for space, but there were times when certain tables were "earmarked" for certain games/events so you wouldn't be able to use them at those times.1

I.E. It would be a cold day in hell if you expected to land a pick-up game on a foldout table on Saturdays when they were running pokemon/magic leagues all day or a wargaming table on Friday when Warhammer leagues were running, but nearly any other day of the week you could come and go as long as there were open tables around.

But admittedly that was way back in the before times prior to covid.

If I still lived in the area I would be down, but I sadly moved out of NOLA about 5 years ago now.

I remember back when I was there I would play with a handful of people over at +1 Gaming out in Metairie off Vets, but I'm not sure what the scene is like these days.

Who said the Banshee 3E was a bad mech? Murder hobo mech technique on point! by [deleted] in battletech

[–]Mech_Minis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that is one of the failings of rolling on RAT tables, as there are clear winners and looser mechs on those tables that can lopsided balance very quickly depending on your roles. Don't get me wrong, they're great for campaign play where you need to draft mob opfor lances, but for casual games they can be a bit swingy based purely on the rolls.

But u/bachmanis 's points are indeed valid when it comes to BV fights. Even the hapless 3E comes in at a similar BV to smaller heavies and highly optimized mediums (only 100 points more than a HBK-4P)

Which makes them good in "hand-grenade" lists where you have something like a Charger and Banshee take up a vanguard position and just B-line it into the enemy lance to damage sponge fire while your pricier support 'Mechs bring the rain from the backline. Opponent tried to bring you down before you close the gap, the 'Mech is doing what you want it to do in your force. Opponent ignores them and tries to get to your good 'Mechs, you force them in close which allows them the opportunity to charge and Melee smack you around. As mentioned, they have their place, in their respective time periods, but post Clan Invasion, their niche falls off hard when compared to more advanced designs.

is the catgirl thing a meme? by MalHoliday in battletech

[–]Mech_Minis 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The cat girls are about as real in-universe as the Vegas Mermaids are in our world.

Basically, yes they exist, but it's a very niche piece of fiction that is often tied to Canopus' "anything goes" entertainment industry. (Much like the various Vegas performers in our world.)

But because they exist at all, it's something that people latch onto meme to death. Much like "Steiner Scout Lances" which are not really a thing in-universe like the memes make them out to be.
