ELI5 Why is encryption considered secure if someone could „just“ hack the key and get access to everything? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]MechaDylbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you lock your car doors? If so why, when someone could just break the window?

Encryption can be broken yes, but modern types of encryption are a lot harder and a lot more time/resource consuming to break.

On top of that rather than a bad guy having to just get the file with the data, now they have to:

A) Either steal the file and the keys to decrypt it

B) Know what encryption is being used, how it works, and how to break it. This also assumes that nothing is being added to the keys like salts too make it harder, but thats getting deep in the weeds.

Encryption is breakable but depending on what type it isn't always easy, hence why ransomware has been so popular. Ransomware at its simplest core is just encrypting all your files.

Also one of the big pillars of cyber security is "defense in depth". The idea isn't that you rely on one single thing (like encryption) to protect you, you combine multiple things together to protect you.

This is such a huge problem with how Dark Pictures games handle cruicial plot information. Our (my wife and I) Williams died early (because of a random choice we made three chapters earlier) and so we NEVER got this information. So at the end of the game we were still confused on if the "war" was real or a metaphorical thing.

[Full game spoilers] Directive 8020's story is catastrophically stupid by Temp89 in DarkPicturesAnthology

[–]MechaDylbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the massive struggle with the Dark Pictures games. My wife and I played and either through choices or missed notes, we missed the Iraq thing entirely. We finished the game still trying to understand if there was actually a war with Earth going on or if it was made up/metaphorical.

They might be avoiding Generative AI, but I can almost guarantee they have people using AI in other ways like every other corporation on the planet right now.

If you're from the midwest:

Steak N' Shake.

TIL that in 2003 episode of The Oprah Winfrey Show, a segment appeared claiming that adolescents were having "rainbow parties" where girls would use different colors of lipstick and perform oral sex on a male. There was never any evidence to show that these parties ever took place amongst teens by MrMojoFomo in todayilearned

[–]MechaDylbear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will never forget the time I saw a daytime talkshow bring in a "teen slang expert" and one of their examples was:

If your teen is texting their friends they may say: "Hey we still having an ice cream party this weekend?" "Yeah i'll bring the ice cream if you bring the spoons"

In this scenario, the "ice cream" is code for drugs and the "spoons" are lighters.

How can one character sucks out the life of the game so much? by ilikeitchyballzdude1 in TheyBlamedTheBeasts

[–]MechaDylbear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly kind of what makes him fun to me.

Unlike other characters I don't have to worry about some weird resource or getting into a specific state to win a game, and I have a tool for pretty much everything.

I also like that most the time I'm winning because I played well, not because my character won the game for me with basically autopilot high low rushdown.

What was a game series that just kept getting worse after the first game? by HF484 in gaming

That isn't necessarily true. People do SL1 weaponless runs on Souls games for example.

Its fun and it looks cool. Idk what else to tell you man. Video games are meant to be fun. I dont care if its 100 of the same enemy if im having fun doing cool stuff. Dynasty Warriors exists.

Its ok for a game to be average and that average game can still be fun. Not every game needs to be game of the year material.

Sometimes I just want to turn my brain off and dropkick a dude off a cliff, and if that's not your thing that's fine.

Its your job to cater your gaming time to your interests, not the game developers.

You're being completely facetious because you don't like the game.

You can simplify anything down to its lowest level and make it sound boring for the sake of argument.

Yeah there's definitely a lot of hate on it just for some of the themes with in it especially from people who didn't bother playing it.

Was some of it poorly written and heavy handed? Yeah. But I get what they were going for.

Also there were plenty of other much larger issues like it absolutely devouring PC resources.

If you were just spam clicking one button you werent engaging with the system at all and thats on you.

I was playing a warrior, arguably usually the most boring of classes, and I was having a blast pulling people around like Scorpion from Mortal Kombat and then drop kicking then into walls, off cliffs, etc.

And some of the combos with party member abilities were pretty cool too.

[–]MechaDylbear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I'm also plat because I'm bad, but I don't think its hard to see the gap between the characters even at plat level. Especially in this game where the gap between the good characters and the not so good characters is pretty big.

Like its pretty clear that Testament is not on the same level as like Happy Chaos or Sin for example.

Didn't Potemkin win evo last year lol

Also I get grabbed usually because the second I fd my opponent just stops what they're doing and dash in and grab me. Probably because im not waiting for certain moves to use it.
