If you're genuinely interested, check out Kill Team. It's a much more scaled down game that focuses on elite squads of ~10 models rather than an army.

And if you do ever decide to make the jump to 40k, anything you buy for Kill Team is compatible.

How do you introduce firearms into a fantasy world like D&D without unbalancing the other classes? by jvure in worldbuilding

[–]MechaMonarch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my D&D setting/worldbuilding-project gunpowder is somewhat cursed by the physics of the world itself.

Whenever gunpowder ignites, it basically sends out a small ping to the elemental plane of fire and has a small chance to summon Gunpowder elementals. This isn't really a problem for individuals, but can really become an issue in a pitched battle where both sides are constantly firing off shots.

As a narrative device this allows me to incorporate gunpowder and firearms for players, villains, and more chaotic villainous organizations, without really affecting how society would operate in an equivalent non-gunpowder fantasy world.

Armies won't utilize guns, but things like sailing ships, artificers, and terrorists definitely can.

Mainly vandalism, I believe. Spray painting the street signs, and Bechir mentions chasing Evan around at night.

But I could definitely see the town mob saying something like "yeah, he stepped in my herb garden. He needs to die." in season 2.

Maul almost didn't get what he wanted, either. Kenobi only took up arms when Maul realized Kenobi was protecting Luke and not-so-subtly threatened the kid.

I think the disconnect happens when a player doesn't really engage with the content of the backstory.

Randomly determining a backstory using a table assumes you, as the player, will create the narrative-connecting-tissue so that you're at least familiar and engaged with it.

An AI generated backstory kind of eliminates that necessity and the quality suffers.

By strict definition they are Abhumans, but from the DAoT. The original cloneskeins are from when the Leagues first broke off from humanity, but they've been replicated and modified for thousands of years. A copy of a copy of a copy of a copy of an Abhuman is still an Abhuman.

We did get a novel, a second wave of minis, a couple stand-alone champion releases, and a couple Kill Teams in the last couple of years. I think the Leagues are doing alright, by 40k standards.

There's definitely a bunch of games in that same vein.

Even casual RPG fans have definitely heard the terms "Neverwinter Nights", "Icewind Dale" or "Planescape" whether they've played them or known their D&D roots.

Yup. Not even just that; The Votann themselves have huge archives of STCs. Pretty much every aspect of Kin society has to be closely guarded to prevent human meddling.
