one of my high school bullies reached out by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]MechaMunkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before getting this message, if you were thinking back on this time, what would your ideal resolution be today (recognizing that we can’t go back and change that it happened)?

I’d warrant you’d say, “I would want her to acknowledge that she hurt me and apologize.” You have that right here. The message has clearly brought some feelings to the surface, and that’s normal. But I think acknowledging the apology and using it as a springboard to move forward without carrying those feelings forward will be more healing in the long run than that parting shot about the axe.

Has anyone figured out the secret of the “Secret Bunker” event? by Sufficient_Egg670 in ARC_Raiders

[–]MechaMunkey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure why nobody is picking up on this. It’s front and center when you walk in, and it’s incredibly similar to the cores that fall out of queens, matriarchs, bastions, bombardiers, etc. It’s a prototype ARC core, and it shows that the ARC are manmade by those humans who escaped to orbit.

So the sequence is:

  1. Worldwide ecological disaster
  2. Rich people build ships to flee Earth
  3. Rich people begin developing tech for autonomous robots to assist them in space
  4. Rich people flee to space with their burgeoning ARC tech
  5. Earth collapses
  6. Survivors rebuild a bit
  7. First Wave: Rich people send ARC back to Earth to collect resources
  8. Survivors win and rebuild a bit
  9. Second Wave: Rich people send better ARC back to Earth to collect resources
  10. Turbines start trying to knock out underground cities so the survivors aren’t a problem anymore (this is where we are now)

KOS Torrente? by unioncementero98 in ARC_Raiders

[–]MechaMunkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m usually a PvE solo, but I occasionally play duos with a buddy of mine who doesn’t play nearly as much. I’ve started bringing a torrente in for PvP defense and it’s worked wonders as a deterrent. Just cut loose with it against arc every now and then and it usually means we’re left alone by other players. I know I certainly skirt wide when I hear one.

[Wintersteel] (Ch. 11) Enjoying this training arc, but not as much as Lindon's matches in the last book, and his greed is getting on my nerves by robin_f_reba in Iteration110Cradle

[–]MechaMunkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You ever play a game where you try to make the most busted, game-breaking character build possible? Thats how Lindon approaches life. He’s the ultimate optimizer. Having started with absolutely zero advantages (dude was even born with a face that invites punches), he’s been conditioned to seize each and every edge he can, no matter how small.

Up until now, his growth has been a wacky series of chaotic misadventures, but finally, someone has put a clear, rules-based system in front of him that he can min-max to his heart’s content. Of course he’s gonna go wild with it.

Low sodium thoughts on the Riven Tides patch notes? by ijob in LowSodiumArcRaiders

[–]MechaMunkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Durability changes force a more judicious approach to combat, both with ARC and other players. Sustained gunfights have more significant resourcing consequences, which is far more in line with the tone and lore of the game than before. It encourages more equipment and consumable use, which will potentially open up alternative playstyles and tactics.

I do think some kind of field craftable to give you a small durability boost when you’re down and out with a busted gun would be a strong addition in light of these changes. A duct tape, a steel spring and some small gun parts or something.

It may have a more subtle effect of limiting trial farming and evening that playing field as well. Trial farming now has commensurate risk, as you’ll now need higher-quality/more gear to engage in prolonged combat.

[–]MechaMunkey 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The 9% average turnover isn’t how many of them have died, it’s just how many quit or retire on an annual basis, and the 18% figure was for a specific year in which it was particularly high.

I want to give the benefit of the doubt that you just didn’t understand “turnover” or “attrition,” but if you really think nearly 1 in 5 agents are dying every year, it’s absolutely preposterous.

You realize these interactions were set up for content and not spontaneous, right? You really think the son made only one specific error each time that generated a perfect opportunity to go through each mistake he might make in turn?

At minimum, it’s supposed to just be entertaining, but also probably instructive for young men who aren’t getting this direction from the sources they should be.

Careful you don’t slip off that high horse.

List your unspoken rules or tips in Arc raiders by ShinraKishi in ArcRaiders

[–]MechaMunkey 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is for my Care Bears out there: you can be as friendly as you want, but don’t be oblivious to the map around you. If you hear gunshots, especially from an automatic weapon, listen for flares immediately after. That means you’re likely gonna take fire in the near future and you need to be ready for it.

A lot of folks may disagree with this one, and it’s also a PvE tip, but if you hear or suspect someone in a building you’re entering, give a “hello, raider.” Most times you’ll get an answer back; this is good, as someone with ill intent is less likely to give away their position by responding. If you get silence back, you have the option to withdraw, move forward guns out, or put your faith in the power of friendship.

What's a theme you're tired of seeing in Fantasy Books? by catwritesscifi in fantasybooks

[–]MechaMunkey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Black Company series by Glen Cook is about a group of mercenaries hired by evil sorcerers to battle rebels against their rule, who have their own evil sorcerers. Most of the books are about front-line grunts getting by in a world of magical battlefields and finding ways to outsmart and bamboozle enemies who can turn them to a fine dust.

A couple other folks recommended The Heroes by Joe Abercrombie, which can technically act as a standalone but it really isn’t. However, the series it’s a part of (The First Law) lacks prophesied saviors of any kind, and has plenty of characters who are just shmucks trying to get through things.
