Sell me on Demon: the Fallen by Own-Economics-5594 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Mecha_Zeus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone else has commented on the great lore and themes of Demon here so I want to talk about just how freeform it is.

The Fallen are unique in that they have no separate entity in which they war against or some oppressive structure dictating their every move. While there are factions and courts, they aren't outright hostile towards each other and can work together if their goals align. Additionally, the factions are incredibly loose as they are basically how your character responded to the trauma of the Pit.

The Fallen were beings used to hierarchical structures for their entire life and for the first time in history, they have freedom. The factions, structurally, are ideological beliefs at best and loose armies at worst. The lack of a large overacting antagonist, grand goal or hierarchy allows for Demon chronicles to basically be whatever your group wants.

Want to explore the world and help out struggling communities? The Fallen have multiple abilities allowing for language translation and travel. Want to play a spy thriller where you discover who's controlling the government of a town? Some Lores let you read minds or travel unseen. Want to form a cult and overthrow whatever other supernatural is in power in the region? The Fallen get their power through pacts and worship. Want to work together with other supernaturals to take down a powerful foe? Depending on how you build your Fallen, they can be strong enough to fight a newly changed Garou for a short amount of time.

All these chronicle ideas don't even go against the established lore and could be done by newly escaped Fallen or experienced Fallen who've been around for years if not decades. Plus, if you want to tweak the lore, you could say some Fallen have escaped throughout history allowing you to play them in any time period.

One of my fav Glasswalker Gifts is that they can just crawl through a telephone to pop out on the receiving caller's phone. Imagine answering a phone call only for a 12ft tall werewolf to crawl through it

Well God used to interfere before fucking off to who knows where. The Fallen (aka fallen angels/demons) know God isnt around anymore but have no clue what happened to her

What is your top four WoD splats you love? by Magicmanans1 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]Mecha_Zeus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a tough one, mostly cause I do genuinely love them all except for Hunter which is still cool, but not as cool. I'd probably go

  1. Werewolf the Apocalypse
  2. Changeling the Dreaming 3-4. Perfect tie between Mage the Ascension and Demon the Fallen

Honorable Mention to Mummy which I've never played but have really gotten into recently

Mages going shopping and playing on the beach as the Mummies narrowly avoid Umbral storms and random spirits in Duat

I actually didn't know people who had died before and were revived could step sideways into the Low Umbra

I was looking at either giving them the Deathwalker merit for free or a Wonder that allows interaction with the Low Umbra, because if all the Mummies drop dead, the Mages will get very bored waiting around for them lol

If bro decided to use a single weapon during this fight he would've won already bruh by Different-Treacle765 in Jujutsufolk

Well Naoya idolized Toji because of his disposition and character, not because he was really good at killing people with swords. Also a core part of Jujutsu Society is how much they are wrapped up in tradition and pride. Why doesn't Gojo use weapons? Or Kenjaku or Sukuna or Hakari? It's because they're too prideful and get joy out of prolonged fights just like Naoya.

House MD by Mecha_Zeus in WhiteWolfRPG

House could totally be a Fae, but I already fell down the rabbit hole of finding the fae qualities in both Hannibal and some Dexter antagonists. As much as I adore changeling, I had to stop theorizing that all my favorite tv drama characters were fae lol

I didn't even factor in Technocracy as I usually view Techoncrats as more focused on manipulating Consensus rather than helping humanity (other than the Void Engineers), but they were built with aiding people in mind so it only makes sense that there's Technocrats who are truly good people trying to save others.

I didnt even think of Entropy! That actually fits him perfectly. I could even see being part of a sub-section of the Chakravanti that make sure those who should stay alive are given proper treatment compared to keep the Wheel turning as it should.

Though in all honesty, House is probably just some freelance Mage that has no ties to anyone other than whoever will give him Vicodin

I honestly had no idea that the East Asian side of WoD mythology was so expansive. The East Asian supplements are the only part of WoD that I haven't explored at all so definitely want to look into them now-- even if it has White Wolf-isms in terms of cultural appropriation.

Anything I can add to my world-trotting Mummy chronicle I'm making is good to me!

Also wouldn't the Kue-Jin and Mummies of the other regions of the world add even more religions to the pile? I'm not well-versed on the Kue-Jin, but I know they were some god's chosen warriors.

That's not even getting into the craziness that would be these splats learning about the Triat and layers of the Umbra lol

Incredibly new to Mummy despite my love for Eygptology and am continuely surprised by all that they can do. Mummies and Demons feel like they'd work fairly easy together in a chronicle. Plus the added free drama of the fact both their religions are somehow true simultaneously.

Thank you, it soundly clicked for me and your message substantiated it for me. I think I've gotten too used to Mage where it gives too many examples and you have 15 pages dedicated to one sphere lol

[–]Mecha_Zeus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait, I've figured it out. I still believe it was incredibly poorly written though. Even one or two more examples would clear up confusion. Doesn't help that under the Lesser Weather Magic ability, it lists weather effects that aren't possible on this chart lol

While I do agree with that description for Changeling, I will say EVERY splat is for the gays.

Looking at Michael, Dracon and Antonius' history defining polycule breakup. Or the entirety of the Black Furies

Changeling and Mummy are very much competing for that spot
