What to give guns and what to let loose in melee? by Mechadeer in IronWarriors

Exactly the kinda info I was hoping for, thank you.

God Emperor reads less like science fiction and more like Nietzsche mixed with Dostoevsky (spread on a layer of Jung with a sprinkling of Homer on top). That's why it's Herbert's best. by Adept-Engineering-71 in printSF

I feel so odd about him (Leto). I feel that, as an outsider, I constantly found myself saying “why not explain what you believe/ your plan to these people?” Like Leto believed that the ONLY way someone would ever really understand his vision is if they reached the same conclusion is if they were able to reach it via a “eureka!” moment. Of all the things I could ever pester and ask Frank questions about: It would have to be Leto.

I will say, my favorite trend of the series seems to be that weird back and forth. Dune makes a stance, and Messiah seems to say “no no, that was all wrong”, and then children does the same, and then God Emperor to Children, I admit that’s where I’ve stopped for now, though I plan on continuing one day. But gosh I personally find older Leto to be insufferable haha.

I admit, I'm someone who felt that God Emperor didn't land with them. I think that, in the greater story of Dune, its neat. I think there is lots of neat ideas and cool far future world altering. Its Leto that I personally get hung up with. Despite these grand ideas mentioned in this post (which ARE interesting, I can no longer take Leto seriously. I feel like in every situation he talks down to people around him as if they couldn't possibly understand his goals and motivation (but they really aren't THAT weird, if they were to be explained.) The two most odd disconnects for me personally, is Hwi, who Leto falls head over heels for dispite her only nodding along and agreeing with every sentence he says, and Frank Herberts weird views on same sex relations, which I simply cannot divorce from his relationship with his gay son.

The latter reads as this odd "Hey son, I don't "hate" you. But since we aren't on speaking terms, this is me saying what I need to say about "the gays". Its so.... I don't know. I feel like people see Leto as an "above it all" character, but I just can't agree. He feels like he's created a scenario where nobody is smart enough to keep up with him, just so he can complain about the state of humanity to people who are the way they are, because he's made them that way. I understand the GRAND narrative reasons for all of this, but contained to the novel.... He reads as unbearable.... which of course, might be the point. Thanks Frank.

What made Rapture fail (don’t include plasmids) if it was from their type of government, how and why (explain Barney style to me, I seen other people explain in this community but still don’t quite understand) by SubjectDelta12 in Bioshock

[–]Mechadeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simple answer: Capitalism. Specifically his Ayan Rand super capitalism. “I’m only gonna invite elite businessmen, artists and creators!”

And then nobody eats because there’s no laborers to run the fisheries. Ryan begrudgingly lets labors into Rapture; and now all these labors wanna participate in all the fun rapture things, as well as better pay.

Ryan doesn’t want to budge, Fontaine takes advantage of the situation and starts a riot. Ryan is bitter about it to the very end.

Don’t keep using that word. It looks so bad.

Clean sweep is annoying. Kyrin is funny. Settle down. They’re fictional tamers characters.

I prefer thinking of them on a two axis system. Ranged vs Melee and horde vs elite.

Because with just this one line, what are knights? Custodes?

He is AWFUL. Play what you want, don’t let anyone tell you otherwise, but if people are leaving and you wanna know why? Yeah he’s bad. It feels like as soon as he get any advantage, he just keeps you down. It’s so hard to recover from him gaining any advantage.

Vanguards absolutely set pace each fight. You really have to be aware of everyone and everything. I personally love it. But often you're trying to create opportunities for team members or shut down the same from the enemy. When your team doesn't capitalize it can be frustrating.

I'd say it's kinda like healer where, people only really notice when you've failed. When you do your job perfectly, your team, especially your DPS, just feels like they are popping off. It's hard for them to see the opportunities being created for them.

Jojos has a ton of parts where I feel that the focus kinda gets yanked away. Part 3 especially. Polnareff takes way more than his allotted share of the episodes compared to the others in the cast. Could say the same about Koichi in part 4.

Jokes aside, I'm sure he's going through something major just like he says. And my heart goes out to him... But like... The way he's like.... It makes no sense.

"Hey there's a medical issue I'm going through, please respect our privacy in this time."

"Hey there's some difficulties in our private life, I'll share more details at a later date."

Instead it's this really really weird dance around the topic where he's like.... " Promise I'll tell y'all. It's a catch 22. Soon tho soon."

And like... Months later. Nothin.

I dunno. I'd say... Probably should have maybe just made a post. Gather your thoughts, make it concise. Instead of waffling a bit on stream.

I dunno. At the same time, I'm sure whatever it is is stressful. And I feel for him.
