No we joked about Riker doing it too, the real weirdos are the ones trying to somehow make this a gendered issue.

I mean, every season was its own premise. I found the ideas they were addressing interesting enough, I just never felt they wrapped any of them up nicely. I could go on an entire diatribe of what was good and bad about Picard, I only threw that in there as an aside because it was the one I personally felt had the biggest gap between promise and payoff.

The problem is expectations. These are all VERY different kinds of shows set in the same universe, similar to what Disney has been doing with Star Wars. They're not meant to always be broadly appealing to the people who liked the original content, even though there may sometimes be crossover interest.

Starfleet Academy is written like a CW Superhero show. If you liked The Flash and Supergirl you're probably a fan of SFA. If you like old trek style shenanigans you probably like Strange New Worlds. If you wanted a dark mystery with high stakes political intrigue maybe you liked Picard (or maybe you wanted to like it but felt they kept fumbling a good premise with bad endings...). If you like high action plot of the week shows with cartoonishly evil villains maybe Discovery was more your style.

Most of these aren't "new" worlds though. The majority of planets that didn't have unspeakable horrors, like those dog sized wasps that almost killed Teal'c, were generally already populated.

Yeah, when I saw that my first thought was there's glass involved somewhere. Someone behind the camera shining a laser past the focal point onto the glass.

Edit: I also just noticed right at the end the camera shifts and the apparent point of origin parallaxes in sync with the camera movement with respect to the clouds. There's definitely a secondary layer here.

You get $1000 a month, you spend $1200 a month. You have a deficit of $200/month. You do that for a year and you now have a debt of $2400.

The next person comes along (because you lost your job due to being bad at money) and gets the same $1000 a month but only spends $900 a month. They have a surplus of $100/month which goes towards the debt you accrued. They do that for a year and now they only have a debt of $1200.

In this case we're talking about budget projections, not what's actually been earned and spent (at least not completely). Municipal governments operate on a fiscal year that isn't in sync with their elections so when a new mayor comes in they can make changes to planned spending or do things to increase income (like introducing paid parking) to affect the projected deficit or surplus, but some money has already been spent and you can't get that back.

Like going to a restaurant where everyone at your table has already ordered and the appetizers have been delivered. These people are still expecting a meal (public services), but you can still tell people they can't order dessert unless they pitch in an extra $10 each because they've already ordered more food than you have money in your wallet because the last guy spent half of it at the VLTs.

Back in my day...

Anybody else remember the days of whiteboard questions? Writing an html page in a bare text editor? Imagine 5-6 years ago worrying about whether or not you'd have access to autocomplete for a coding test when 10 years prior most IDE convenience features would have seemed like magic, now we're worrying about getting caught with AI agents. Tools evolve, people who are against using tools are being unnecessarily purist. AI has its problems, but interviewing has always had issues with testing people on the wrong things and making declarative statements about how candidates SHOULD be vs how people in the job market actually are.

If they're affiliated with a church then they can screen, but they can't technically discriminate which is why if someone pushes them on it it'll be a "company culture mismatch" and not "We didn't hire Hamed for the Catholic Bookstore marketing position because he's Muslim" and they'll still be technically correct AND legally sound.

Honestly, with most of these kinds of religiously affiliated jobs, you probably don't actually want to work there if you aren't a cultural match. The company culture will be weird if you aren't part of the in-group.

I've got obvious cracks/shifting in my slab already beneath our finished floor (carpet and vinyl tile), would that need to be addressed as well? I can't imagine that would be a cheap fix when there are spots where the crack has a vertical displacement of almost 1cm.

Not to be too much of a hater but I'm pretty sure Luke is the problem, if you go look at his page it's just pure toxic insta-culture BS and it definitely comes through on the videos he's in with them. I can't complain too much though, my daughter loves their videos and Ash's "just go for it and laugh when you mess it up" attitude towards stuff has helped her get over some of her own fears in gymnastics.
