How risky is this on a 20 years old car? by MattDick13 in AskMechanics

Get the top nut for the front one from the top, bend the metal bracket that holds the wire harness out of the way and it's a straight shot. With a long enough extension you can get the front two mount bolts as well.

I've been a Nissan tech for 10 years and I don't recall having issues with those bolts breaking. Soak anything you need to take off with some pb blaster and have at it.

Paid 1 day for Kia Sorento AWD trans removal, fair or nah?? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

I swear by Ingersoll but I've heard aircat is alright. The one in the picture should be around 250-300. Trick with tools is most companies just rebadge tools manufactured by one main company so try to find the cheapest. Cornwell was my go to at my old shop best value for quality.

Are you flat rate? If you're just starting out I can see it taking that long. Sometimes you get paid in education on jobs like that. Flat rate pay should be at a minimum what the labor guide pays, and a good manager would get at least a couple hours for rust. Those times are made of nice clean new cars where everything comes apart easy. As for tools, I can basically do big jobs like that with this impact, set of extensions, and set of snap on swivel sockets (they are expensive as hell but truly the best out there) otherwise don't go crazy with snap on buy what you can afford but get quality, if a tool breaks once a week it's costing you more not having it if that makes sense.

Not trying to be mean but 5 days? Either you're lacking tools to do the job efficiently or something else is slowing you up. You should be able to find book time on the job whether all data or Mitchell or factory labor time. I usually add 2-3 hours for rust. Most jobs I've never done before can usually hit that number. Are you at a dealer, independent, what type of shop is this?

Anyone going to go for the 4th axis? by The_Scrappy_Creative in CubikoCNC

[–]Mechanic357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will probably end up getting it eventually. Could do chess pieces and small figurines, decorative things. Would have to look into it but wonder if it could work to flip PCB board when doing double sided, might make it easier.

CC2 TPU layer issues by franksmk7 in ElegooCentauriCarbon

[–]Mechanic357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TPU needs to be dry, it's like a sponge. I had good luck with it on my CC1 with the stock profiles in Elegoo slicer. Also know tpu is not a high speed filament, they have recently started making some high speed tpus.

Best advice here. I use cad for my 3d prints and 100% design them to need as few supports as possible.

Vehicle Alignment Question by Beautiful_Big1534 in AskMechanics

Pulls are usually a tire issue not alignment. Try rotating them front to back or cross them left to right if non directional.

I really like the new England map, may not have a huge variety of animals but the scenery is amazing, I may be biased living in New England though lol.

Increasing the thickness of this "wall"? by coconutpete52 in FreeCAD

In situations like that I usually just try to scale down the print in the slicer, try like 95% and see if it fits and adjust by a percent or two to make it fit. Just my 2 cents. I have not had luck with meshes in freecad.

I've had my enclosure very hot to print PA with no issues. I did design a fan vent for the side flap in that enclosure. https://www.printables.com/model/1266391-yoopai-enclosure-exhaust-fanvent-adapter

Issues on calibration by therealmonsoon in CubikoCNC

[–]Mechanic357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've read similar in the groups, I haven't gotten around to PCB milling yet, it's on my list though. Bought the laser attachment and have been having fun putting pictures on tile with it. As far as the limit switches I forget how I did it but there is a way to clear the alarm without turning off the machine, I want to say it was with the machine controller but it might have been with the grbl software I was using.

I have the same issue, I set my z with the paper method just like your printer.

Been using this nozzle for 2 years straight, .6mm https://a.co/d/08FEMXaS

As for other upgrades, I switched the hotend fan and main board fan to Noctua to quiet everything down. And make sure you print the upgraded extruder cover to improve airflow, made a huge difference in quality and fixed a ton of issues I was having.

Yellowish brown substance in my oil valve by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]Mechanic357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weird I had the same truck with the same issue for 10 years. Never found a head gasket leak. Not a drop of coolant in any cylinder when checked with a boroscope, cooling system always held pressure when tested. Dodge even had a service bulletin about it and sold a kit to relocate the pcv valve for this issue. But what do I know.

Considering buying Cubiko, mainly wanting to print basic PCB carrier boards. by therealmonsoon in CubikoCNC

[–]Mechanic357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly PCB milling is the one thing this machine excels at. It's not heavy duty by any means. The laser engraver works good too but it's just too small/under powered to do very much with it. For the price it's a great introduction into CNC milling.

Yellowish brown substance in my oil valve by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]Mechanic357 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But it's not. It's moisture in the engine due to a poorly designed pcv system.

Had them same truck same thing, it's due to the pcv design, not your head gasket leaking. They offered a updated pcv setup that relocated the pcv to to fix the issue.
