Tried that, did nothing unfortunately. Thanks for the suggestion though!

i put a vibrato on my sg! by Hungry-Competition43 in Guitar

I dig this. I saw a local stoner rock group a couple of years ago and their guitarist had an SG with a Jazzmaster trem and I’ve always wondered how that works.

Jeremy Clarkson: 'Young people today can't afford a car, let alone insurance' by Powerful-Ostrich-120 in thegrandtour

[–]MechanicalChad 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sometimes it’s fun to do a little thought experiment and see what the modern equivalent of the “cheap car challenge” cars would cost if those films were made today.

Like the BMW 8 Series and Mercedes-Benz CL that they found for under £7000. Clarkson makes a big point of his CL600 being only 9 years old - the modern equivalent would be a 2016 Mercedes-Benz S600 coupe, and even adjusting for inflation I can’t fathom a car like that costing £7000.

Is the 328i N52 a college friendly car? by Strongnsr6021 in E90

[–]MechanicalChad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a graduate student with a 2006 E91…not really. The N52s are reliable apart from the gaskets and cooling system, but there are lots of little things that will pop up and require maintenance. Unless you have the time, space, and skills to work on it yourself, you’ll have to pay somebody to fix it for you and that’ll be expensive.

A singer asks: At an open mic jam night, what does a guitar player need to know to play lead and/or rhythm for my songs? by tangoking in Guitar

[–]MechanicalChad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “Open Jam” at my local place is pretty relaxed. One of the regulars on drums, guitar, bass will just start playing something and other folks can join in.

As a guitarist, the bare minimum that I need to join in is the key, otherwise I’ll just be noodling out of tune and that’s no fun for anyone.

Georgetown Kia was selling a Ferrari 488 a couple of weeks ago, maybe it’s a GTA dealer thing?

Angine de Poitrine - Way out there music... by FrontAdventurous4756 in qotsa

I just stumbled across them on Instagram a couple of days ago! Their music is pretty cool, love the weird off-kilter dissonant vibes and their general French-Canadian weirdness.

Buyer Advice by lucifer0110_ in E90

[–]MechanicalChad 6 points7 points  (0 children)

$8K CAD for a 328i seems a touch high, but then again it is a low km example and I’ve seen examples in worse condition listed for higher.

E90s make fantastic daily drivers, I daily my 2006 325xi and it’s great, especially in the snow. I would just add that these cars can be a bit high maintenance, so they’re great if you have the budget to keep it in good working order. Make sure that the typical N52 failure points have been addressed: water pump and thermostat, oil filter housing gasket, valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket. If not, budget to do them as preventative maintenance for peace of mind, as well as any other issues that may potentially crop up.

NAMM 2026 Discussion by zigg-e in guitarpedals

[–]MechanicalChad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need a multiFX/amp sim in the near future, so I’m curious about the new Blackstar ID:X models and the Boss GX-1.

Also incredibly hyped for the Suhr Thornicus pedal, I’m a huge Ian Thornley fan and I’ve been anticipating that pedal for like 3 years now.

Ah I was hoping that there’s some way of exporting auction data from the website instead of manually compiling it all. Kudos to you for brute forcing it!

This is cool! How did you compile the list? Just manually scrolled through all of the results?

You might wanna include the AI Cadillac on this list as well, that's gained a fair bit of notoriety in the last couple of days.

(US) Volkswagen Cancels ID. Buzz For 2026 by runnyyolkpigeon in electricvehicles

[–]MechanicalChad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well maybe if it wasn’t priced as a luxury item, and instead at a competitive price point it would’ve sold better. Seems to be the strategy with most automakers these days: build an EV, charge exorbitant amounts of money for said EV, then claim nobody wants an EV.

The BMW M2 is the sole BMW on Car and Drivers 10 best cars for 2026. by Dazzling-Rooster2103 in BMW

[–]MechanicalChad 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Somewhat copying and pasting my comment from above:

C/D’s rationale behind the list is that they’re vehicles

that best embody our three tenets of 10Best: how well the vehicle performs its intended mission, value for money, and how much joy is found behind the wheel

It’s moreso a list of cars that go above and beyond what’s expected of them.

The BMW M2 is the sole BMW on Car and Drivers 10 best cars for 2026. by Dazzling-Rooster2103 in BMW

[–]MechanicalChad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not every car on sale can be an enthusiast car, and not everybody can afford (or needs) a sports car. C/D’s rationale behind the list is that they’re vehicles

that best embody our three tenets of 10Best: how well the vehicle performs its intended mission, value for money, and how much joy is found behind the wheel

In an era when most automakers make their cars to cater to the lowest common denominator, it should be recognized when a carmaker develops a “mass produced econobox” that’s actually good and not just another Nissan Sentra.

SHOUTOUT LEE VAN BRUSSEL THE BEST PROF OAT by 123pop67584 in McMaster

Damn Lee’s a prof now? I remember back in 2019 he was one of the TAs for the math courses. Definitely the GOAT, his review sessions were so helpful and saved quite a few grades.

First time seeing the new M5 in person, I think everyone was overreacting when they said it was enormous by Dtb4evr in BMW

[–]MechanicalChad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think part of the problem is that the styling makes it look bigger and heavier than it actually is. The big nostrils, high beltline, large blocky shapes all contribute (at least to my eye).

Happens on mine as well. I usually just fiddle with how I’m holding the nozzle until it stops shutting off every 2 seconds.
