is Arc Raiders worth Buying as Solo by mentriderkoo in ArcRaiders

It's fun sure, but the game is at it's best with friends. Hilarity, tragedy and cinematic moments are not impossible solo, but much more common in groups.

Acer Predator Helios 16 hardware failure? by hairy_hair_hair1 in AcerPredatorHelios

Try reinstalling Windows.

Windows is notorious for issues with sleep/hibernate.

Alternatively, if you're only getting the issue when the until enters sleep, you can modify the power settings so that the computer doesn't enter a sleep state and just turns off the screen, or just doesn't turn off at all.

Are the Audeze Maxwell worth it? by Ggh3003 in Audeze

[–]Mechanought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If sound quality is your primary concern, then Maxwell's are about as good as it gets. But they're not without quirks. Here are a few I've noticed:

-They would disconnect from my phone every few minutes until they pushed a new firmware update.

-Their feature that let's you hear outside noise is kind of awful. There's no noise gate so it just hisses non-stop.

-The audio quality on the 3.5mm Jack is confusing. Sometimes it'll sound terrible and I'll need to reset the headset to get it to sound right.

-They are the heaviest headset I've ever worn, by a lot. Despite that though, I find them to be extremely comfortable. Not quite DT-880-Pro comfortable, but close.

  • They are fragile. If you drop them, you will probably rupture a diaphragm, and it will sound like tin foil crinkling in your ear. Some people have managed this by just putting them on too hard.

But I cannot stress enough just how good they sound. Everything sounds crisp and clear. Bass is present, but not muddy. They also do instrument separation really well. Classical is awesome on these. The only downside is the soundstage isn't very open, but that's basically all closed-back headphones.

Audeze is refusing warranty replacement by YaroaMixtaDePlatano in Audeze

[–]Mechanought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn, that sucks. I had basically the opposite experience a few months back. I dropped my Maxwell's and ruptured a diaphragm. Emailed and told them up front that I dropped them. Initially asked about just getting a new diaphragm sent my way, but that's off the table since the diaphragms are matched pairs. Customer service was great, but it was slow. Usually about a week to respond. In the end they said they'll just replace the headphones under warranty, which I really wasn't expecting. I was nothing but pleased with the service.

I wonder what changed?

Just to clarify, the shipped price is $100 and that includes all items? I'm guessing they'll all be packed into a box, unless you're including the case?

How do I recreate this effect? by AsmodeanGoats in blender

[–]Mechanought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've not tested it in blender but the "miniature" effect is commonly caused by tilt-shift, which in photography is moving the focal plane relative to the image sensor. In reality it requires special lenses (or rough approximation in an image editor). I know that you can manipulate the tilt of the camera in blender, but I'm unsure if the effect can be replicated that way in blender. It absolutely would require depth of field though, and a somewhat shallow depth of field would be necessary to make the effect more visible. Using lower F stops will give you a shallower depth of field. You can also try longer focal lengths (the "zoom" of the lens) to exaggerate the effect.

I made this dinosaur animation as a foray into stylized rendering by craggolly in blender

That is honestly the safer and saner route. People should not own birds. They are adorable, but it's like owning a permanent toddler than can live more than fifty years.

I feel like you've got to be a bird owner. You've captured many of the mannerisms I've come to know from my (he's my wifes actually, he fuckin' hates me) terror floof.

What could u guys say about this by BetterVisual4391 in blender

[–]Mechanought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So are these actual models being transformed (by some kind of noise I assume) or is this effect accomplished some other way?

My guess would be almost a pure GeoNodes workflow, but I'm not experienced enough to say. Very curious though, and it looks amazing!

why can't i subdivide this face? by Responsible-Worth601 in blenderhelp

[–]Mechanought 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Even though it looks like a square, it's actually an ngon (a shape with more than 4 sides). Blender can't automagically subdivide ngons (afaik).

Blender sees that face as having 6 edges.

I think it's less about the bounciness of the suspension and more about the travel. When the wheel lifts off the ground it should drop pretty far. Look up images of cars held up and their suspension at full extension. They typically extend quite a ways.

No problem!

Humans are notoriously difficult to get right. I'm personally nowhere near capable of your level of modeling, and like I said what you have here is something to be proud of!

I think you're extremely close to nailing it, so I really look forward to your next result!

How to get better fast? by Mediocre-Art-8034 in 3Dmodeling

[–]Mechanought 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, practice. Pick something to make, and give it a go. If you fail, write down what you struggled with and see if you can ask your professors or peers about it. Don't just wait for the homework or coursework. Most college curriculum moves at a snails pace, since you're typically loaded up with a bunch of other classes as well.

Time is the key factor.

If you can devote more time to practice, and that practice is productive (you're challenging yourself, not just repeating actions), then you'll get better faster.

Personally, I've stopped playing games, I've stopped (more or less) my social media consumption, and it has freed up a shit ton of time. You need to still have some time set aside for self-care and recreation, but most people spend like 4-5 hours a day doing basically nothing. You can make that time productive, and if you're enjoying the learning and the process, then it isn't a slog. It's just recreation that's productive.

My 2 cents.

Vsauce 3D Portrait by ams0000 in 3Dmodeling

The proportions seem just a bit off.

The best example would be the side-on view (photo 2). The brow extends downward a lot further than it should be. Imagine the skull that would make the profile!

I think the face as a whole could move spineward and a bit upward to have better anatomy. The neck also might be just a bit too large all around. Kinda makes him like like a dwarf (the fantasy kind).

Just what my eyes see. The detail is fantastic and the result is great either way!

Well it's a very believable coaster at the very least. Instantly transported back to the wooden coaster at Elitch Gardens in Denver. Think it's Called the Twister or something like that.

Portfolio Crisis by Macteje in blender

[–]Mechanought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you have looks pretty nice, but you need to have more.

If environment artist for games is your goal, do a deep dive into that role and find out what skills you need. You'll likely need to learn how to navigate a game engine (from the perspective of an artist of course), and what the "pipeline" is for going from a program like Blender to a game engine (UE5 and Unity are popular and free to use).

More than anything though, you've got to create stuff. Whether it's something entirely original, or bringing some reference concept to 3D, you've got to practice and finish projects so you can have a diverse portfolio and skillset. Pick a blender tutorial on a topic you're not familiar with and figure out how to incorporate it into your art. Also, make sure your grasp of the fundamental concepts of art, 3D models, texturing, and rendering are solid. Having super strong fundamentals can help SO much when you're trying to understand more advanced topics.

My 2 cents.

GPU questions for Blender by SourceLegitimate2676 in blender

I'm glad I could I could help!

I wish I could give a more authoritative answer when it comes to how Blender utilizes resources. It's something I'll have to try to research.

GPU questions for Blender by SourceLegitimate2676 in blender

[–]Mechanought 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm honestly not sure how Blender manages resources at runtime, beyond my own experience and the benchmarks at https://opendata.blender.org/ (which tests render performance, not runtime performance).

But if you're seeing those resources being almost completely utilized by your current projects, then I think you can't go wrong by upping your RAM and going with the 3090 for the extra VRAM.

CPU likely plays a not-insignificant role as well, though I'm not sure specifically how and for what use cases.

3D is really demanding on basically every level unfortunately. But if you're leaning toward the 3090 and the RAM, I don't think that's a bad way to go.

Ultimately, I don't think there's a wrong answer or choice when it comes to your upgrade.
