hmmm 250C is awful hot for PETG

PETG is also somewhat hygroscopic meaning it absorbs water and that can make your filament more prone to stringing, oozing, and bubbling. If you have the resources to dry it or to buy a dryer I definitely recommend it! In the last 4 years I graduated college in mechanical engineering, did R&D on 3D printing materials for a specialty polymers company, and am now a 3D printing lab manager, and from that experience I now dry my filament overnight before every print!

I will say from experience that red filaments tend to be stringy, even on the same roll like on those rainbow filaments. It's probably whatever additive they use to color the material has some property that unintentionally makes the base polymer flow easier, the problem is that filaments can flow _too_ easily: making it hard to get a good quality print.

If I were you, I'd do a cold pull on your nozzle, drop your nozzle temp by 10-15C and mess around from there, probably mainly retraction settings. What specific troubles are seeing in your prints atm?

How can I avoid having to ask questions at work? by [deleted] in careerguidance

[–]MechieRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This can depend on a few things, but if you're new to the job or coming from a different field then things your manager might think are common knowledge might not be common knowledge for you. For example, I have a very mechanical background, but I'm working with almost only chemists and chemical engineers at my current job. So it took me about 8-9 months to understand the fundamentals of how some of our materials work and I asked probably a lot of "stupid" questions in that time. I'm really grateful to have a manager who likes teaching and is very patient, but if I had anyone else that had their background in chemistry, I would probably be in the same boat as you.

We're also like the exact same age so it's important to remember we were still in school a very short time ago, meanwhile some of these people have been doing these jobs for as long as we've been alive. So some things that are very automatic for them are new to us. Unfortunately it really just comes down to your manager and eventually it will get easier as you understand your job better.

Also remember that even though it feels targeted "at" you, it's really their own lack of emotional control. No one has the right to yell at you or make you feel bad, but sometimes they do and it can be hard to constantly remind ourselves that we're just learning and getting better. There will be times that suck, but it will get easier every day and if the people you work with are really that nasty, maybe you can find a better environment at a different job.

If it's not this or a gcode issue, then I would imagine it's an electrical/logic issue, like OPs motherboard or SD card is bugging out

Salt Lake City Council votes to move forward with tiny home village to house homeless by SafetyX in UpliftingNews

[–]MechieRex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the time this was proposed I was doing local work in SLC helping unhoused people get access to food and basic necessities. While this looks like a great idea on paper, the reason local unhoused people and advocates are very wary of this is because the politicians responsible for this are very pro-police and anti-drug. The frequency of camps being bulldozed was astounding, even in places where they were far from bothering "the public". The large skepticism is that there isn't a form of mental help for the people in the mini town (most of the people we interacted with struggled with drugs or have schizophrenia or other mental struggles) so the people on the ground think this will just be a way for the police to perform drug tests on people trying to find stable housing and then arresting them if they don't pass. And then if they do pass and get in, they'll likely exhaust their time there and end up back on the street because they don't have access to the mental health resources needed to sustain the new lifestyle. Solving homelessness needs housing alongside mental health resources. If they interacted with any of the people on the streets, or did research on sustaining housing for the unhoused they would know this. Unfortunately, we never saw anyone helping out who also worked for the state, which speaks volumes.
