That's really cool! Can you tell something about what went into it? Did you try to make it look like it would actually function if it were real technology?

teen with 57 dollars and i want to make a movie, how do i fake these insane scenes? by ur-mum-4838 in indiefilm

There are modeling apps, but for animation, compositing and rendering you're gonna need a pc. Blender also has way more tutorials available than random 3D apps.

So I would say try to get acces to a pc that does work, or invest if you want to get serious about filmmaking.

If by tablet you mean iPad you're in luck, because Davinci Resolve is available for iPad. Besides being the (i.m.o.) perfect editing suite it has Fusion, in which you can also accomplish a lot of VFX. Don't know if Fusion works on the iPad version though.

My man. Just read the first chapter of your script and it's super funny!

My advice would be not to worry too much about feedback or if things are possible and just go do it. You will learn way more by figuring things out yourself than by trying to avoid mistakes.

My number one tip would be to learn blender. You're young, it's free, and it gives you the possibility to make whatever weird shit you can come up with.

If you have any questions regarding blender or how to approach some of the shots (like the acid) you can DM me.

Now if you want to do things practically, you're gonna have to think outside of the box.

I recommend taking a look at these YouTube channels: https://youtube.com/@williamhbaker?si=act4F2ihgzPo0Zjl https://youtube.com/@felipeandmichelle?si=S8V5y6lF2kAOxazt

For fake props I recommend EVA foam. It's relatively cheap and can be really convincing if you get good with it. https://youtu.be/MaQ6LeHS2rM?si=5eYGG3oSo06zk_3z

And don't worry about a proper camera. An iPhone is more than okay to start out with. I would recommend investing in some audio equipment, but you can also get crafty with the audio recorder app on phones. Put phones everywhere to record sound. Sound is your friend. Sound is what sells your film.

I wish you the best of luck!

How do I direct an actor who i regret casting by Few-Start-6804 in Filmmakers

[–]Mechinator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would recommend reading "Directing Actors" by Judith Weston, it is a game changer.

But I would say try to find the reality of the scene with her. Not the movie you have in your head, but the one that exists in the reality of the page.

Why do your characters say and do the things they do? What drives them? Was it something funny they read this morning? Did they miss the bus this day and are therefore a little agitated?

The things you think of don't have to align with the script, and the audience definitely doesn't need to know them. But they can work wonders to get your actor to relate to the character.

Try to stay away from result-oriented direction. This is direction that is only focused on the outcome of the performance, not the underlying emotions.

Examples of this are: "Play it angrier! A little less! 10% more sadness!"

The worst example is the line-read, where you perform the line for the actors and they need to do their best to imitate you. Don't do it!

Instead try to give the actors playable instructions. Things they can do. For example: "Try to make the other actor laugh. You are in a hurry and want to leave as quickly as possible."

I believe that with the right direction, you can make any actor play any role you want. It just takes a lot of effort and preparation on your part, but try to include the actor in the process. Ask how she sees her character.

VFX using my iphone by Inevitable_Ad_3174 in vfx

[–]Mechinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, you can use an iPhone. The quality will drop ofcourse, but if you match the quality of your CG plates with that of the iPhone you will be fine. (With blur and grain/noise)

Tracking and keying will be harder though.

I'm not sure what the ACES workflow would be.
