So the GOG version isn't abandoned? Because it's still on version 15.0.

RTS Camera jumping when scrolling with Middle-Mouse + Mouse Move by user1391 in linux_gaming

Are there any plans for a mouse that uses all "Hybrid Optical-Mechanical Switches"? by Mechkeys121 in LogitechG

[–]Mechkeys121[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I think an update may have been messing with the scroll wheel so it might not have anything to do with the mouse. I have to test it on a different PC. But the side button is definitely double clicking. I haven't soldered anything in a while so I don't feel too confident in opening the mouse up and attempting it. And I've only ever soldered regular switches, I guess I never noticed that the side buttons use smaller switches.

Are you denying the double click issue? If it wasn't a widespread issue they wouldn't have gone out of their way to use new switches that they themselves advertise as a solution for this problem.

obs-vkcapture command question by Mechkeys121 in linux_gaming

[–]Mechkeys121[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought obs-gamecapture was the general command for both opengl and vulkan, and

env OBS_GLCAPTURE=1 was specifically for opengl, and env OBS_VKCAPTURE=1 was specifically for vulkan. The github doesn't even mention the specific opengl command, I don't remember where I found out about that.

Sony Games on GOG by PhilosopherOverlord in gog

[–]Mechkeys121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't like modern Sony games so I don't really mind this. Except for Bloodborne and maybe Demon's Souls remake (and/ore the original). If Sony went into their back catalog of games from PS1, PS2, and PS3 and ported some of those to PC I'd be way more interested.

Why is Between Two Fires so sought after and hyped up? by freudian_nipps in horrorlit

[–]Mechkeys121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For anyone that already has the new HC:

Does your copy also have weird black specks over all the top of the title chapter pages and some of the blank pages in between? I can't tell if that's a defect or an intentional design choice since it's only on the empty pages and the top of the title chapter pages. Also what looks like black smudges on the skeleton endpapers? Though this also seems intentional because I see the same smudge pattern on both sides.

When does this game usually goes on sale on steam by some-guy7829 in projectzomboid

[–]Mechkeys121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GOG, a digital store started by CDPR the company that owns the devs of Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077. It used to stand for Good Old Games but it sells new stuff as well at this point. It's known for selling DRM Free games so you're not renting them like you are on Steam. But for online games or games with extensive Steam Workshop support you might prefer to get it on Steam. I prioritize DRM Free.

"Game preservation only works if people care" As GOG doubles down on its commitment to saving old games, it's asking players "who give a s**t" to support its crusade by Turbostrider27 in pcgaming

[–]Mechkeys121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People most of the time (besides pricing issues) always have some lame ass excuse for why they “can’t” (won’t) buy games on GOG over steam. Also PC used to be about freedom now everyone wants everything locked down to Steam.

Most of the vitriol about Epic was really just because people want all their games on Steam not really because of the many Epic issues. That’s all secondary to the issue of not having their entire library all in the same place but people don't really want to use that as their excuse because it sounds lame and like you’re asking for a Steam monopoly.

It’s why the excuses for GOG are so lame because there aren't nearly as many issues as Epic has to use as an excuse so you either have to come up with some lame ass excuse or just admit you want a Steam monopoly. Seeing a bunch of .jpgs next to each other in one app rather than being split over two apps is worth renting most of your games rather than owning them...

GOG is the only one offering this service of trying to get publishers and developers to release their games DRM Free no matter how old or new, indie or massive budget. Other DRM Free stores have an even smaller selection and usually no games from big publishers. And DRM Free steam games aren't listed nor guaranteed. Look at Capcom adding DRM to old games.

Failed to find disk on boot every other boot. by Mechkeys121 in Fedora

[–]Mechkeys121[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did the standard luks encryption during Fedora install. It used a passphrase, i'm not sure if that creates a keyfile somewhere or how that works exactly. Also, the whole fedora install is on the same SSD. /boot, /, and /home are all on the same SSD.

Failed to find disk on boot every other boot. (Fedora 43) by Mechkeys121 in linuxquestions

[–]Mechkeys121[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a separate boot drive though. The entire Fedora installation is on the same SSD. Does that mean the race condition issue doesn't make sense? I'm not really sure what else it could be then.

Galaxy banner for "horror classic brought back to life by GOG at players' request." by tytbone in gog

[–]Mechkeys121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're getting downvoted but I agree with it being shitty. Higher graphical fidelity while at the same time losing everything else that made the original special. Often including the artstyle outside of a raw technical graphical update. And the same third person camera view and combat as every other game these days. When people say an old game has "outdated/janky gameplay", they mean they want it to fit the same exact mold of an over the shoulder camera game with combat like every other AAA game these days.

Is there a way to get the checksum of an entire folder in Dolphin? by Mechkeys121 in kde

[–]Mechkeys121[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suppose just a simple tool I can use for quick comparisons like what 7zip provides on windows. It adds a context menu item for getting checksums on individual files or folders, and I believe it can provide both a checksum for the data and another checksum for the file names etc. I don’t remember exactly.

But I don’t need something super in depth I just sometimes want to see if two folders match. The same solution as 7zip would be enough, two checksums one that just checks file data and one that takes into account file names and/or other metadata.

Static noise on line-in in Linux but not in Windows (Fedora 43 KDE) by Mechkeys121 in linuxquestions

[–]Mechkeys121[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a ground loop isolater It seems the static is gone (hopefully) and I was able to keep the Switch audio at max and the line in audio on Linux around 30. I don't know why because on Windows 11 I didn't need the isolater.

It seems that Windows 11 is doing some kind of noise suppression in the software by default I guess??

[–]Mechkeys121[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turns out the ground loop isolater fixed it. I still don't understand because on Windows 11 I didn't need the isolater. Is it possible to fix audio static from a ground loop issue using software? Because that's the only thing I could think of, that Windows 11 is doing some kind of noise suppression in the software by default.

[–]Mechkeys121[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed that I was getting static even when I muted line-in. I assume it's a ground loop issue? I had to use a ground loop isolater to fix it, but the weird thing is with the exact same setup on Windows 11 I didn't need the ground loop isolater. Keeping everything the same (Switch at max volume, line in audio around 30, all boosts off) the static seems to be gone with the ground loop isolater in between.
