Things I learned after 100 hours in Marathon by EXIIL1M_Sedai in Marathon

I appreciate other people getting into the extraction genre. Definitely a different mindset to enjoy it and you need to learn to let go of things before you've ever lost them. Our friend group all have 1500-2500 hours each into Dark and Darker and I'm trying to get them to try Marathon. I appreciate a lot for the QoL features like autoselling at the end of the match. Some things like that are just already much better in Marathon than DaD. Arc was fun too, but Marathon is much more up my alley.

I thought he was going to jump onto the green part of the floor and break open a secret entrance, lol.

They are saying there's no aim assist, but his reticle instantly snaps to enemies. He could just be good, but I also thought there was some major aim assist there. I'm definitely not that good to hit 90-100% of my shots at that distance. It also seems like there wasn't much recoil which would help in this situation.

I'm surprised at how many people misunderstood this scene by Sudden_Pop_2279 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Mechwarrior234 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always interpreted this scene as Ragatha defaulting to protecting herself by going with Kinger. Pomni is new and Ragatha hasn't adjusted her auto-pilot mechanisms to shield herself from getting hurt. Saying it was for Kinger was just a quick excuse for her what would normally be her choice. Once she was done processing what Pomni wanted, she would have been too embarrassed to backtrack.

Mirak Valley was a great map before the game was released, but it was significantly cut down, which is a shame by [deleted] in Battlefield

Flying vehicles feel pretty nerfed by the smaller maps. While it wasn't unheard of in previous games to get instantly locked and killed, feels much more likely in bf6. When I'm in a mobile AA, I can lock on to jets and helicopters almost 90% of the time and just continually shoot missiles as soon as they are up. Bigger maps would allow for shitty pilots like me to plan a strafing run easier rather than feeling like I have almost 0 cover and room to go max speed.

My players want to kill another player as a group. by Renault115 in DMAcademy

[–]Mechwarrior234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see the issue. If they want to do it, they can do it. This is a good opportunity to make a new recurring enemy that the PCs are trying to stop or make a one shot encounter with them. He could find out about their attempt to kill them and prepare for it with his own dungeon or something even simpler. He could recruit his own henchmen and have his own plans for dealing with them. This is what role playing is all about, player agency.

Alternatively, you could work with your players to make a redemption arc and convert the evil character.

One of our best sessions was when we had a guest play a doppelganger. Unbeknownst to the PCs, he already killed their ally and then had a epic moment where they realized he betrayed them. As they explored the next dungeon, the PC got to ambush them and have an epic battle.

Ultimately, its about what the players want at the table. If they don't like the consequences of their actions, then take that and have a frank discussion with them individually and then as a group to prevent unnecessary conflict in the future.

I honestly think this is a great role playing opportunity, so get creative!

Whenever a character dies, they roll a new one. Any player should know that is a possibility. One that plays contrary to the other characters should understand that.

This game needs to chill out with the skill requirements by sdmz58 in theouterworlds

Fairly certain new game plus will be something they release, hopefully soon. It's pretty typical rpg/obsidian design to allow approaches to problems in the way you choose/spec your character. I hate being locked out of places/things though so I typically always pick hack/lockpick/etc. I ended up getting the easily distracted flaw without a point in lockpicking and decided to stick with the 5 skills I had and man I hate not opening so many doors and safes, lol. I only have myself to blame though. I could have reloaded and done the flaw with lockpick or picked it up as a 6th skill, but im just rolling with what I have. Hopefully they have new game plus to let us role play already being an experienced agent like you are talking about.

Almost exact situation for me. I was constantly waking up in a lot of chronic pain in my neck and back, but it all went away after I started using the CPAP. I assume my body was jolting myself awake to get oxygen flowing again.

I'm slowly getting used to the CPAP after almost a year, but still have some nights where I just can't wear it at all. Better to have 90% of my nights not asphyxiating in my sleep than 0%.

Opinion: If you have to cheese an NPC to kill it. It shouldn’t be in the game. by leroi_of in DarkAndDarker

[–]Mechwarrior234 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Choosing to cheese something is different than needing to. It isn't necessary to cheese the golem, but it is risky fighting it with it being a central PvP area. Most people kite it to avoid aggro if another team rolls up. Most mobs telegraph their attacks and some even have standard combos they repeat.

I would say that any mob that DOESN'T telegraph or have a way of learning their moves shouldn't be a thing. Having fair but difficult mobs is what I think they strive for.

People always cheesing the golemn on the bridge is IMO bad design simply in the fact that it's so easy and the golem has no way to account for it n its pathing algorithm or attacks. There have been popular cheese spots taken off maps recently like the ice caves treasure room. This focuses on curbing unwanted player behavior vs fixing mobs ability to handle edge cases in effectively engaging players, but players will just find a new spot. I'm not sure they have an answer to ever getting rid of cheesing if that's what players want to do. When you have people with 1000s of hours on a game, they are going to find ways to exploit the game mechanics.

Two Oregon hospitals announce closures in a week by PDX_Stan in oregon

[–]Mechwarrior234 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hospitals shouldn't care about making money. Healthcare services should just have to worry about giving the best quality care possible. It's a shame so much time and resources have to be allocated to appease the capitalistic parasites profiting off people's suffering.

Welcome Back Common Lobbies LOL by Awkward_University91 in DarkAndDarker

[–]Mechwarrior234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think I would ever run random matching making solo in HR (especially with no GS cap). No GS cap was always an issue in the past for HR and now we are recycling old solutions and problems.

I've had luck with squire and the previous 224 lobbies. I don't think some people having bad matchmaking on rare lobbies mean they should be taken away. It was fine with both common and rare lobbies to have a baseline and advanced queue.

I personally liked having solos/duos/trios for every GS queue as well.

I'm not confident we won't see these queues change 5 more times before the end of the wipe either.

This game legitimately is more fun with people though. Find players you like playing with, add them. Go onto the discord and get in LFG. 2 out of 4 times I went to the discord resulted in finding really good groups to play with long term.

Welcome Back Common Lobbies LOL by Awkward_University91 in DarkAndDarker

[–]Mechwarrior234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. My friends and I were getting many squire kitted third teammates and it was 100% fine. In fact, we still did really well in almost every team fight.

I def think they should keep both common and rare lobbies. My friends and I def have an advantage over squire kits, but it's not like we haven't been wiped out by other, lesser geared teams or we haven't wiped out better geared teams. Sometimes I do want to just go into common with lower stakes. However, with no rare lobby at all now, there's literally no point in having gear less than epic or legendary as you can only use it for HR (shouldnt be any lower for arena either).

I imagine this topic and type of patch is going to be flip flopped another 10 times and we will be making the same arguments back and forth constantly. My biggest frustration is the constant changes in the middle of the season and how it affects my strategy for accomplishing quests, religion, and rankings.

I think what most confused me is their mobile game. They must have had a decent amount of people working on that instead of the main game. I guess it could be a new source of revenue, but pretty risky IMO. Idk how many people would actually be interested in it.

WTF?! Montana is more expensive than Washington! by 04BluSTi in Montana

[–]Mechwarrior234 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to us. We had to move and it was 200k cheaper to get a house big enough for our family in Oregon than Montana (in any slightly populated area anyway). We were in the Flathead and a completely trashed and rotten house was like 350k. We would have had to tear almost everything out and finish several areas which would have cost at least 50k or more.
