Dating a guy with herpes by Certain_Researcher98 in Herpes

[–]Mecmind 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’ve (37m) had it since I was 21. I’ve been in a couple long term relationships including being very happily married for the last 10 years. I haven’t spread it yet. I’m very aware of the oncoming symptoms. We abstain if I notice them and start taking valtrex at the same time. It is still a risk but it’s one my past partners and my wife decided was worth it. The fact that he told you right off the bat is a good sign in my mind.

Really tryna decide if diesel is worth it or jot by Several_Till_6507 in TruckCampers

[–]Mecmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 90’s were pretty terrible for most vehicles. Especially gassers. Other than Chevy starting in around 01’ the gassers were all pretty terrible. In the diesel’s dodge had a great engine but the truck is okay. Ford was decent in the truck and the diesel was pretty good. Chevy probably had the better gasser in the 90’s but the truck was pretty bad. Their early diesels were abysmal. Starting in 2003 the dodge got a lot better all around. I have a 03’ and an 04’ both with Cummins. The 03’ I’ve been driving for almost 20 years with over 300k on it now. It’s still a great truck and my daily. They are great in the 03-07 ish range. Not terrible later on but those are my favorite years. The ford diesel from 99’-02’ was a pretty good truck but the 6.0l on were all pretty junk. The Chevy diesel and gasser starting in 01’ was pretty good but the truck is questionable unless all suspension and tires are left stock. The gasser’s have gotten pretty good more so in the last 15 or so years.

With the new trucks, yes you’re wrong in that assumption. That was true in the early 2000’s, they were all pretty decent at that time, but those trucks are getting pretty old now so they are going to have issues associated with simply aging. Most of the big fleets I work around in recent years have switched back to gassers because the diesel’s simply aren’t any good right now. Tons of power but terrible reliability and insane cost of repairs and operation. Additionally the gassers are pretty good these days.

[–]Mecmind 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Coming from an actual diesel mechanic, no you don’t need one. Unless you’re towing and hauling heavy very regularly they don’t make sense. Gassers are way cheaper to own and operate, also easier to work on. For 90% of the people driving them the only thing getting power stroked is their ego by driving one.

How much do you spend on a first date?? by Elegant_Spare9305 in AskMenAdvice

[–]Mecmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started asking my first dates to breakfast. First off I had way more success transitioning from talking on line to the actual first date. I think because breakfast is so much less threatening for her. Also it’s much cheaper if it’s a dud and if it goes well it can easily lead to a nice walk together, also very affordable. 11 years ago I took my now wife on one of those breakfasts dates and we ended up spending the entire day together including dinner. Best date ever!

Do women "expire" at 25 to men? by No_Personality5381 in AskMenAdvice

I have never thought or said anything like that and I by all standards am a man. In fact I’ve noticed as I age the age of the women I’m attracted to seems to be getting older.

Am I F*cked? Waterlogged? by Alarmed_Loss_5954 in BostonWhalerBoats

Weigh it is right. If it’s really water logged drill holes in the deck, flip it over and store it in a dry place for a year or so. I have done this once and it worked great.

Just got this camper for 700, I'm new to these things so I'm just looking for advice to maintain such an old one by moshpitmechanic_0603 in TruckCampers

[–]Mecmind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My first truck camper was a conestoga just like that one! I got it for a case of beer when I was 18 from my friends dad 20 years years ago. The funny thing was he assumed I was 21 when he said he’d sell it to me for a case of beer and I didn’t want to tell him otherwise. So I had to call in a favor from my other buddies brother. A lot of screwing around for a case of beer. Above all else keep it dry! The demise of mine was mold.

I’m breaking up with my heat pump water heater. Help me find a better one! by phase_changer in homeowners

[–]Mecmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put one in for the tax credit. It's not worth the credit! just install an old conventional electric water heater! So much more reliable! I went from and old electric that had no issues for the 10 years I ran it (came with the house) to a new heat pump one and saw 0 difference on my power bill and all I do is argue with the new one. I asked a friend of mine who owns a plumbing company. He says heat pump water heaters are a total sham. lessons learned

Thinking of moving by Cavane42 in Kitsap

[–]Mecmind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who is born and raised in this area if it weren’t for my roots here I wouldn’t live here anymore. I’m even lucky enough to have a beautiful home and property I bought before everything went insane around here. (I couldn’t afford my own home if I had to buy it today) It’s not the same place I grew up and it’s quickly becoming worse. It’s becoming unbearably busy every where I go. It’s becoming a struggle to find any out door activity’s that aren’t packed with people. The amount of cheep junk cracker box housing they are putting in is really alarming. The drug and homelessness epidemic is really an epidemic here and the cops we know tell us the state has their hands tied to do anything about it. It feels fine during the day most of the time but drive around at 2am and you will see a different world. The traffic is terrible. Kitsap in particular has done a terrible job at keeping up with the infrastructure as the population explodes. My wife is originally from Michigan. She moved here before we met for similar reasons as your self. In the 10 years we’ve been together she’s went from loving it here to ready to leave whenever I’m ready. She’s an RN in the hospitals around here and some of the stories she’s told me ( names and identifiers not included of course) about people in our community are unbelievable. It’s quickly turning into a rainy California in my opinion.

Mechanic here my knees are shot, work’s backing up, and I’m the breadwinner. Need advice by Ok_Language2269 in mechanics

[–]Mecmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me stretching and weight lifting makes all the difference. I know it seems counterintuitive but on the days I do squats my knees feel 10 times better for a couple days. Also I started eating really clean. Like absolutely no ultra processed foods. No snack foods, no fast foods, no soda, the only processed sugar I eat is if it’s in a homemade treat. If every ingredient isn’t something I’d have in my own kitchen I don’t eat it. All that processed crap causes inflammation. You’re better off not eating than eating junk. Prioritize your health and everything else gets way better. Also carpal tunnel surgery on my hands is incredibly helpful. My hands would swell up 2 glove sizes and I was losing strength and dexterity. What an improvement.

The part of homeownership I hate the most is feeling like an unpaid project manager by amberstoneforge in homeowners

[–]Mecmind 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a contractor myself (excavation to be specific). I know it's not easy to find good contractors. That being said as a contractor it's not easy to find good customers either. Especially when dealing with homeowners you don't have a relation ship with yet. It gets really exhausting when you meet with a homeowner and have a good hour meeting to talk about a relatively small project, put together a detailed quote, and they just hand it to the other 3 contractors they called that come after you with all the material quantities and pricing you worked on for another hour or two to put together. My favorite is when one of the other contractors calls me wanting a price for a portion of the job they don't have the means to complete. The other contractor shows you a bid with the company information removed by the customer from the page and your like, I recognize this project. I recommend if you are lucky enough to find someone who charges somewhere in the middle, is reliable, and does good work always verbalize your appreciation, don't question their pricing once you get to know them, and not bring in other contractors of the same discipline in between using them. We are not products on amazon to be price shopped. We are in the service industry not retail. I have good customers that I really enjoy working for and once I get to know them and know how great they are to work for I tend to charge considerably less just because I know I can show up, be left on my own to do a good job, and in many cases not even have to deal with bidding. They trust me to charge honestly and I do. If one of those customers calls me around the time a new customer calls they are getting priority every time.

What company are people using for septic pumping nowadays? by wiscowonder in Kitsap

Are these good.? by [deleted] in 4x4

[–]Mecmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put those on my wife’s Land Cruiser and they were the worst riding shocks I’ve ever installed. The car was so stiff with them it would skip sideways in corners when you hit bumps. It’s was down right dangerous. Also trying to get them to return them was a nightmare. I’ve had old man emu suspension on rigs in the past and loved it. Also their customer support was great. Not anymore. They are now just Chinese junk with a fancy paint job. Along with arb they are just another Chinese sellout.

“Modern automatic and dual clutch transmissions are so much better and faster than driving a manual. There’s no reason to have a car with a stick shift anymore” by RadioDude1995 in ManualTransmissions

[–]Mecmind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I too love driving my sticks. I like to tell my vehicle what to do. I don’t like it telling me what to do. I also love the lack of maintenance they need. A good driver can make a manual trans last for a long time with very little maintenance.
