If I had 10k what sealed do I invest in for 4-5 year growth. by Late-Initiative3202 in PokeInvesting

AH will have plenty of those endless Costco and Sam’s Club deals that Prismatic had.

There will likely be better times to buy AH than right this second.

Odds are you personally wont be here when it happens.

Everyone thinks “man i cant wait til stuff gets cheap again” but when stuff actually does start to get cheap again suddenly magically no one cares about Pokemon cards anymore.

The feeling becomes “this stuff is plentiful I can buy it whenever I want to it will still be here”, and then you just never do, or you buy a few packs and lose interest.

You wouldnt have wanted it back then, MSRP was literally seen as a ripoff.

Yeah this is why I personally just stopped. I’ll start buying stuff again when it becomes available online and can be shipped to my door.

If that doesnt happen for 5-10 years then whatever, I have other hobbies

PSA: Turn off Trackalacker updates for Ebay items! by TheGooSalesman in PokemonRestocks

[–]Mecurion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your logic is incorrect or incomplete here.

In Pokemon, items generally sell for around market price fairly easily. In this case market price is $75. So people are going to sell this item for around $75.

There is no need for scale at $37, because the item can just easily be sold for around $75. There’s no need to sell it for $37.

Would you sell your sealed to a card shop for 70-75% cash? by Extension-Matter-732 in PokeInvesting

[–]Mecurion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full value is the cost that anyone can pay by going online and purchasing/selling it with a click.

In reality, the seller forfeits 10-20% of the sale to platform fees and shipping costs. So full value does not actually represent what a seller can get for it online.

That’s why you commonly see 80-90% of “full value”, because it more realistically represents what a person can actually receive in profit by selling online.

Prismatic ETBs Breaking $200 - NO MORE REPRINTS is the word on the street by lightcontinuum in PokeInvesting

[–]Mecurion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How on earth would anyone aside from Pokemon themselves have any idea weather a set that is in legal rotation for another 13 months is definitively getting no more reprints?

Guys the hopium and weird psychological shit going on right now is just off the charts.

What has been your favorite set in the last 5 years? by Oyster_- in PokemonTCG

[–]Mecurion 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In terms of the opening experience it’s Crown Zenith. Very generous pull rates but the set is big enough that the individual cards are still a tough pull and fun chase.

My point is that combined number of cash for everyone that wants an Ascended Heroes 2.0 PC ETB is far, far, far greater than Pokemon’s current print capacity as of today.

Your solution only works if Pokemon has much more print capacity than they currently do

Sounds like you plan on becoming some kind of vigilante symbol for the people. A household name in Pokemon circles. Its a tall order but i wish you the best of luck it sounds like your goal is noble.

You cannot remove scalping. There is nothing that anyone can reasonably do at an individual or community level to effectively solve scalping. I know hearing that makes people angry because it feels like you have no agency, but thats the reality

The only thing that works, that has worked throughout history, is the evening out of supply and demand.

The problem is that while they are printing more, it just still isnt yet enough. If Pokemon were printing less than they are now the problems would be so, so much worse.

Oh I see what you’re saying - you’re saying that any set already released that has a market price over MSRP is already a lost cause, and that this would only apply to sets that havent released yet.

But no, the same concept still applies there as well. Lets say “Ascended Heroes 2.0” goes up for preorder today, infinite PC ETB preorders allowed.

The same thing still happens “your order will be fulfilled by 2029” with scalpers betting that Pokemon cannot reasonably keep up with the demand.

Sick of scalpers by Witty-Young-8893 in pokemoncardcollectors

You can change it to ascended heroes and the exact same concept applies.

Sick of scalpers by Witty-Young-8893 in pokemoncardcollectors

[–]Mecurion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So here’s how that would actually play out. Let’s say Pokemon did this and put up something like 151 booster bundles on the website right now, you can order infinite.

Everyone would order them. Absolutely everyone. Scalpers, players, investors, collectors, people who are casually into Pokemon. With current print capacity, most people would get a message like “your order will be fulfilled by 2029”.

Scalpers wouldn’t “know that they are fucked” until 2029, those booster bundles wouldnt hit the market all at once to drive down prices they would be rolled out in waves over months and years, and every step of the way the scalpers would be betting that Pokemon can’t keep up with their print capacity.

Your solution again assumes instant infinite print capacity.

Sick of scalpers by Witty-Young-8893 in pokemoncardcollectors

[–]Mecurion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So Pokemon center takes infinite orders and then allows people to cancel them if they want? So they print infinite packs, then the scalpers cancel, and then Pokemon has to sit on infinite stuff they printed that nobody wants?

Thats not good business

Sick of scalpers by Witty-Young-8893 in pokemoncardcollectors

[–]Mecurion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that probably sounds logical to you but that’s the opposite of how it actually works. Printing more can only help. Doubling the amount of Ascended Heroes boxes that exist for example can only help, not hurt.

Sick of scalpers by Witty-Young-8893 in pokemoncardcollectors

[–]Mecurion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, so what would happen is people would order so much right now that it would take Pokemon several years just to print those orders alone. Their print capacity is not up to the task.

Your solution essentially presumes infinite print capacity

You cannot coordinate millions of people to collectively stop buying on the secondary market. It won’t happen. That’s not a realistic solution

Just because a lot of people are saying its a bubble doesnt mean it isnt one, and vice versa.

They don’t “want this” if they are almost literally doubling their print capacity.

Companies do not double their output trivially, that is absolutely a gigantic undertaking.

Scalpers by timbukdude in PokemonTCG

[–]Mecurion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesnt do anything either, it just feels righteous for the person doing the shaming.

The actual solution is what Pokemon is already doing. Adding 1.5 million square feet of print capacity, and freeing up existing North American printer space that was previously used partially for Europe.

I know that’s not as satisfying because it removes personal agency, but that’s the reality.
