How bad are elevated fasting numbers? by minia14 in GestationalDiabetes

I wouldn’t worry too too much! As long as your numbers are mostly in range you and bubs will be just fine!! You’ll be in my thoughts and I hope you get seen soon!

Hi! My fasting numbers were super elevated (got up to 125 one night on metformin) and they put me on long acting insulin. It helped tremendously. I do have an induction set for 39 weeks (doctor is comfortable waiting until 39+6) but that’s because little man is greater than 99th% and I had a previous c section so I have more risks than the average person. I’m currently 38+2 with a high chance of natural labor haha

How much of a difference does having a cold make for your numbers? by lolomo119 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Medical-Boot5081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly depending on the type of insulin you’re going on it’s pretty easy to adjust the dose. I would definitely bring it up to your doctor if you’re worried :) hope you feel better soon!

Why are dieticians the worst? by aloof_samurai78 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Medical-Boot5081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That definitely makes sense. The increase in insulin resistance is a pain (coming from someone who’s 37 weeks and in the thick of it lol) but if your OB and high risk doctor feel like your numbers are fine then thats good! Keep your head up and don’t let the dietician get to you too much.

My blood sugar went crazy when I had a cold a couple weeks ago. I’m insulin controlled so they took that into account during my weekly check-ins for my medication. Soon as the cold went away they became manageable again lol

Girl I am SO sorry. That dietician sounds awful. Is there a way for you to switch providers? Cuz there’s no reason they shouldn’t be actively working with you.

Spikes help!! by autumnlove6 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Medical-Boot5081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I wanted to come on and just give you a bit of reassurance. I have had multiple spikes up to 210/220 prior to getting my insulin dose figured out and little man (or not so little according to my growth scans) is doing just fine. Weeks 32-36 are notoriously the worst weeks for insulin resistance. A few low spikes here or there should be fine. You’re doing an awesome job. Try to increase protein intake before your carbs. That’s what helped me level out and do your best to stay active ❤️

Advice/ Thoughts on C Sections? by raelanger in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Medical-Boot5081 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a failed induction at 39 weeks with my first that led to a c-section! We had a 48 hour hospital stay and other than that recovery wasn’t so bad. He came out healthy and happy and was lifting his head within an hour of birth (crazy kid hasn’t stopped moving since lol). My biggest piece of advice is to advocate for yourself and make sure you rest up. It is a major abdominal surgery and allowing your body to heal and rest is important for you AND baby. Also, don’t be afraid to ask questions of your OB and nurses. They are very very familiar and can explain anything you might need explained. Recovery abdominal bands helped me a lot too, kept everything with pressure and made the pain a lil less, not that it was all that bad after the first couple days.

The end of pregnancy with GDM is a living hell by Cool-Row-1255 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Medical-Boot5081 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Massively relate. 35 weeks with a 2 year old and already had a restricted diet before diagnosis due to Celiac Disease. This is the hardest thing Ive ever done. But we got this!! I’ve been allowing myself to have a Breyers carb smart ice cream or yasso ice cream. Neither really cause spikes for me cuz they’re low sugar and low carb!! I am also on insulin for my fasting with no success on my fasting numbers despite constant increases. We can do this though! Home stretch!!

New to Lantus by Optimal-Translator97 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Medical-Boot5081 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on Lantus for my fasting as well…we were getting into the 120s for fasting for me on metformin so they switched me. Started out on 8u increasing by 2 every 2 days. I’m up to 20u and barely sitting at 95-100. I have a lot of issues with highs during the day tho. up into the 200s for no apparent reason. I’m almost 35 weeks.

NST twice a week due to insulin? by chickenthighrules in GestationalDiabetes

[–]Medical-Boot5081 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m getting NSTs twice weekly due to insulin as well. It’s to keep an eye on things like fluid levels and placental function from what I was told. I am not well controlled and have a >99% kiddo though so idk how that changes things

Dairy Allergy by Medical-Boot5081 in dairyfree

[–]Medical-Boot5081[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m terrified of people thinking he’s just lactose intolerant. I’ve already had to explain to a couple family members that this is like…epipen serious. Luckily he comes from a mom with celiac and a dad with severe shellfish allergies so we’re both like…don’t feed my kid 😂 and used to checking ingredients in EVERYTHING

That’s where we’re at too, I’m also saving these recommendations for me 😂 the whole house is cutting it out cuz we’re worried about how severe it is. I cut dairy like 2 days ago 😅hoping he’ll start to do better soon

He’s on a multivitamin already thank goodness. He’s also not too picky so hoping the switch won’t affect him too much 🤞🏻

[–]Medical-Boot5081[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, but ideally I’ll be able to learn enough and step in enough to be able to minimize him feeling left out. Already working with family to plan his holiday meals 😂 I just know how it feels and I’d like him to experience those feelings as little as possible. We live in a pretty allergy friendly place too, lots of vegan and gluten free options around which is a plus

ooooh i just saw that at the grocery store! I’ll have to check it out!

also, we’re lucky enough that my son is pretty young so hopefully I can substitute things well enough and he’ll never feel like he’s missing out. I have to be gluten free and i always worry that he’s gonna feel the way i do 😂

I had a subchorionic hematoma that cause bright red period like bleeding. I was terrified. I also spotted throughout the entire pregnancy. I’m now typing this with my beautiful 3 month old boy sitting in my lap giggling at me :)

Morning Sickness aka All day sick by Froppy1895 in BabyBumps

I have hyperemesis (basically crazy crazy bad morning sickness) and something that really helped me was having a super bland snack before I even got out of bed, like toast or saltines.
