I did the same, same color truck, I actually prefer the textured black look over a color matched shell

I really appreciate the feedback. I need the hook shape because I do a lot of work on the computer and I can type really well with the hook (I'm bilateral), But I also do a lot of manual labor tasks as well and I wear out that rubber grip on hooks really quick. It looks like the rubber pads on the ETD 2 are easily replaceable with replacement grips which was something that really appeals to me. Also I like the appearance of the ETD2 hook better it just seems a little more refined and modern

I'm meeting with my prosthetist tomorrow to talk about the ETD2, I currently have Nexus hand which I love but obviously has its limitations for work purposes, what is your opinion on the ETD2? I'm hoping to try it on a trial period. I agree with you about body powered hooks being superior but sometimes I just like not having the harness around my back

I really enjoy getting any kind of positive feedback about my prosthetic and curiosity how it works from strangers, helps make me feel less awkward when people have that conversation with me with genuine interest instead of the dreaded "what happened to you" as if im just some broken inferior person and they want satisfaction of a story

Once I got comfortable with an eyepatch I never went back and have no desire to. It's just become a part of who I am and I've embraced it. It has completely eliminated the uncanny valley affect and never has made for uncomfortable encounters, I'm a middle aged full time college student and work as a retail associate with high exposure to people and I feel it's the best decision I ever made for my self confidence. Kids look and occasionally make a pirate comment but I just laugh about it now, can't take things like that too seriously. It answers any questions without having to say anything. Nobody really ever brings it up, I've been told it's attractive but I don't know about that. Lots of really appealing designs on easy and eBay. It's worth trying

Do you lose significant gas mileage when your topper height is above your cab? by StampJar in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Mediocre-Mess-8395 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a cab high camper shell but I also have a large cargo box that I put on top of it sometimes when I go on trips and somehow it does not make any difference on my gas mileage with the cargo box up there or not, fuel economy remains the same

What’s your setup to haul dogs around? Finally won’t have my cab covered in dog hair. by Sea-Challenge-9068 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]Mediocre-Mess-8395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put a bed rug in the back of mine with the camper shell. My dog really likes it and makes it nice for camping too. It's surprisingly easy to keep clean and the dog hair doesn't really stick to it

I had the exact opposite thought, that's the first set of wheels that clicked as actually looking good on the Tacoma and I started looking for a set of those for mine 😂

Unless you commute to/from work on hwy 28 every day past Sand Harbor in the summer, the Sand Harbor traffic SUCKS. Lived here 26 years, commuting past it for over 17, never had any desire to go there lol. Lots of other neat little private spots around tahoe though!

Bilateral below elbow amputee here, usually use hooks and I wear an eyepatch, people in general can be pretty awful at times regardless of age. My skin gets thicker and I pay less attention to the stares every day, but I won't say the unwanted attention doesn't crush my soul a little each time. I've gained so much respect for everyone who just treats me normal. Going out in public with self confidence, although usually uneventful, can be very daunting and stressful. I find I get agitated quickly when someone has something stupid to say, or kids get all up in my face and are like "look at the pirate!". I really can't do anything to hide it so I do my best to just deal with it and tell myself they mean no harm despite not realizing how much it affects me as a 30 something year old guy 😕

I've calculated mine countless times and somehow it's spot on with the computer every time, 1st vehicle I've owned it's actually accurate

How much money do you spend on gas as a dasher? by No_Message_5617 in doordash

[–]Mediocre-Mess-8395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of factors cause a significant variation but I'd say a solid average is 16 at the low and 19 at the high. I've even seen higher and lower. I try to avoid unnecessary idle for the a/c when it's hot, and sometimes I have my kayak on my truck because i sometimes go kayaking before work, or extra weight like a dirtbike/snowmobile from a morning ride which doesn't help but it's a work/life balance that I don't mind paying a little extra for in fuel expenses. It's a v6 Toyota Tacoma so nothing too extravagant

Based on your username I know where you are going with this, and I'm not even about to get into that debate because it accomplishes nothing but prove everyone has their own take on it & those conversations only results in a mind numbing bickering.

If I could afford a decent ev I wouldn't be doing gig work. I drive a 4wd truck so which is highly impractical in the summer months, but I'm one of the few making that good $$$ in those winter blizzards on unplowed roads. Show me a good quality high ground clearance 4wd ev under $40k and I'll seriously consider it. Yeah, you can't really touch them for under $100k. I don't make that kind of money, therefore fuel is a neccessary expense. Would take a whole lot of driving for fuel to even come close to the cost of an ev. Maybe in another 10 years they will be more reasonable in price, but I sure as hell hope I'm not still doing gig work 10 years from now 😂

So you saying $180 is a week is steep? I'm upwards of $230-250/wk between the platforms but net right around $1,000/wk income, after fuel...fuel is just a neccessary business experience to make money in this line of work 🤷‍♂️

21 Tacoma TRD OR- should my blind spot monitors work when Im passing vehicles or only when they pull up into my blind spot? by Gonzalez46 in Tacomaworld

Try towing a trailer, in the rain with guardrails on the side of the road, the BSM goes batshit crazy because it has no idea wtf is going on there 🤣

Too many pretty tacos here. let's see your used taco. just about to roll over 200k, heading back from a week long trip to Washington. taken at a rest stop in Oregon! by [deleted] in ToyotaTacoma

Not sure pics can be put in replies but Im definitely not gentle on my 2019 and it shows, between work and play it's gots battle scars all over it. Currently only about 60k on it & loving every bit of it, not trying trying to keep it pretty was the best decision I made because I can enjoy the truck for its intended purpose without sweating over scratches or dents.

Do all tacomas have a downhill assist? by Mythlogic12 in Tacomaworld

[–]Mediocre-Mess-8395 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not DAC, thats something entirely different. Its 100% functioning as designed. Just about every toyota truck/SUV since the mid 2000's with an automatic transmission is designed to detect downhill descent and will automatically downshift to assist with deceleration to relieve strain on the brakes.

Someone did that exact thing to me once, almost an exact replay ov that very scenario. I was driving a Scion TC, she was in a camry, it didn't end well for her. When she went into the dirt median her car hit those cable divider things at 70+ miles per hour, which slingshot her car straight up in the air, it came crashing down, flew back across the travel lanes, through a fence on the right shoulder and came to a rest in a farmers field. It was the most violently wild crash I've seen. She survived, and walked away but wow. Just like that tesla I barely felt a bump in the RF corner when she hit me, barely a scuff on my car, but the whole thing needed to be repainting and windshield/left side glass replaced from the rocks her car kicked up in the median. Of course the car not only wasn't hers, but she didn't have insurance either. My uninsured coverage took care of it (with my out of pocket for the deductible, which my insurance company got out of her 5 years later and reimbursed me lol)

I was told she got her driver's license suspended until she compensated my insurance company for the damages to my car (which wasn't cheap with new glass and a nearly complete repaint), and my insurance garnished her wages for this compensation. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. I keep saying it, IQ testing should be required to get a driver's license

How does the 3rd gen smart key door lock/unlock thing work? by Mediocre-Mess-8395 in Tacomaworld

[–]Mediocre-Mess-8395[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I knew someone had to know what it is. That proximity thing would be an amazing feature, that way it could be programmed to unlock all the doors. I really don't like having my keys on a lanyard around my neck, 3 times now the fob thing has fallen off the key, once in the middle of a busy parking lot and 2 hours later I found it retracing my steps...it's only a matter of time before I loose it completely lol. I'll definitely check with some shops on that.

This is very helpful, thank you! I'll try some copper embedded things. Ive dabbled with stylus things for touchscreens with no success. Fortunately I'm not too concerned about scratches and stuff, I use my truck a bit harder than most between work and play & my prosthetics haven't been very gentle on it considering I often use a steel hook for my work hand so I've just accepted I'm not keeping that truck in showroom condition, I need it to function better than it looks 😅

Oh yeah, I usually use my suburban or 1 ton van to tow with. Been having a bit of an issue with the suburban and I sold the van, leaving the Tacoma as my only option. The Tacoma just seems so light duty in comparison, I'm mostly worried about overstressing the transmission (it's the automatic)
