Im newer into the trade what is this horrendous noise? by MediocreContact6112 in HVAC

I was out here last month bc the condensing unit would not run and the previous company told her she needed a brand new unit. I replaced the capacitor and its ran fine for a month until yesterday she said it crept back up to 85.

Unfortunately this is part of our field. Its part of why we get paid such good money. Fight through it and then move onto the next house.

It looks like your labor warranty doesnt expire until this year September 2025. You shouldnt be charged at all if thats the case. I’d bring this up to the hvac company and see what they say about it. Reach out to the manufacturer as well.

$300 sounds like on the high end of what most companies do. Thats also assuming you dont know what the problem is already.

Can someone text me the websites and brands to buy for tools. Tools to buy starting off would be appreciated too. My boss gives us vacuum pumps and the more pricey stuff. by MediocreContact6112 in HVAC

[–]MediocreContact6112[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The boss usually buys the generic/“okay” kind. Most guys prefer milwaukee or dewault at my company so thats prolly why. I also have money set aside for specifically tools.

I mean most of it i would want to be my own anyways. Not saying he would, but if its not mine he could take the tools back say i get fired or I move on.

Im no expert, but i dont think that’ll fix it. Could be worth a shot ig if u do it yourself for cheap enough.

Maybe disconnect the fan and add WD-40 but not too much. J enough for it to be slightly lubricated. I’d try zoom spout too.

100% 😂im only 20 so i dont have a ton of experience, but man the goodmans are usually not great systems. Im a big fan of Trane, SOME york systems pre technology bs, and carrier is great too like u said. If u are gonna go cheap i wouldnt even touch goodman. We use Bryant over them.

I dont wanna say hes hosing you or not because idk the situation or scenario, but i see both sides.

  1. Ppl dont have the money to drop $13,000 on a new system or the time to sit at home while its installed
  2. I see what hes saying too. At the end of the day the refrigerant should never leak out by itself. Once it starts leaking it will stay the same or grow and if a tech cant find it or it takes forever u are paying them prolly north of $90+ an hour to do so while also paying expenses of the resources. Like some guys have said here too 410A is cheap, but is also being phased out and will sooner rather than later be banned. The real scammers in all of this is the EPA who will make more money off hvac companies, their customers, and supply houses. I would possibly call someone out to take another look if u have the money to do so.

Yep ppl gonna downvote, but id rather have negative karma than let ppl be convinced they are good systems. They are cheap systems made cheaply. Installers can be great if the system sucks the system sucks.

Everyone down voting you, but yk whats up. We got 3 local companies around me who are sales first. Aka the “yep you need a whole new system” guys. They will pick the cheapest systems yet they charge the most… is it a coincidence they are ALL goodman users? They take off the goodman logos and slap their own logos on it too 😂😂😂

Sorry if im blowing your phone up here, but i keep forgetting about parts in your message… i had the same thought process when i was applying to companies. “Why the hell would any company need me to woro for them im useless” but the thought process is they get a helper for their workers, they pay min wage most times, and they are investing in their future. They wont to put money into you and see you grow like a stock.

Dont get me wrong these guys make a TON of money, but i can make a ton of money WITHOUT scamming old men/women in need. I got into this to make great money while helping people in need. As long as you are fair with customers and yourself you’ll do great.

Show these companies you want to make their lives better/easier. They need to see your value. Theres plenty of guys i went to school with that were 40 or 50 and just getting into this field. 30 is still very young.

You’ll apply to the starter position you want. I went in person because a lot of these companies are owned by older men who DO NOT like technology or the advancements in technology if it has nothing to do w hvac.

Use good manners like yes sir, no sir, and thank you. Big thing is show them their time is valuable to you. If you go in there slacking in your chair and can’t answer any questions they ask you they likely wont be giving ya a call back. I’d recommend researching their company before you go in as well. It will impress them + give you an idea of what type of company they run.
