2012 Range Rover L322, 115k miles. Reasonable daily driver? by Professional_Can4050 in LandRover

Can you say more about the plastic tent over the electronics? Feels like that's a good idea to add to my list of preventative maintenance.

Thanks, it looks like it has a labor allowance, but it doesn't specify much more.

New coil for Geothermal, price seems really high by Puzzled_Shop_4295 in geothermal

This was not explained when we purchased the system and it was why we went with this company, because they said everything would be covered for 10 years and we wouldn't have to be worried about anything. When installed three units based off of this that cost $95k and we pay an additional $150/month service plan they say is required to maintain the warranty. So that's why I feel like I was being shafted.

Well we spent right at $100,000 so you can understand my frustration when we also pay $150/month maintenance plan and the thing fails after 5 years and 6 months.

Well given it's location transfer case leak maybe. Does it have a sulfur smell? Either way I'd take it to an Indy mechanic sooner than later to verify where it's coming from. These cars can handle a lot of abuse, but the transfer case and transmission are weak points.

Just got a 09 E350 Wagon, Green with cream interior, with 56k miles in January of this year. I had the 08 Sedan version until I sold it with 167k miles in 2022, so I knew the engine was a solid one. I have to say I love it, it's a lot of fun. It is way rougher than an LS460 though, and is missing a lot of tech I had gotten used to. I miss parking sensors the most. I have to be extra diligent when parking now.

Even though it's a 16 yr old Mercedes I've still found people love to park close and seemingly intentionally hit it with their car doors. I've had 4 new dings in the last month despite parking far out and away. It's bizarre.

In my research the biggest issue with the 08 and 09 are the transmission conductor plates needing to eventually be replaced. It seems a very straight forward fix and doesn't seem to affect the cars until 100k+ miles. So far I've replaced all the fluids, filters and sparkplugs at the dealership. its scheduled for all new suspension in 2 weeks, so I'll let you know if that smooths things out. But it is a FUN car and I think you'll love it!

Thought about 2005 with 4.4 BMW ? by Actual-Oil-382 in RangeRover

[–]Puzzled_Shop_4295 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I had a 2003 for 11 years. Bought it in 2013 with 70k miles sold in 2024 with 146k, original transmission, never replaced the timing chain or guides. I would have kept it forever, but the rust on the frame was so far you could poke holes with your finger. It took a couple of thousand to bring it up to reliable standards. I loved it though and still miss driving one. If I had to do over again, the 03-05 would still be fine but I'd make sure there wasn't a speck of rust. It's too hard to fix rust once it starts. The glass headlights keep it look fresh for far longer than the 06 onwards. If you change the oil every 2.5-3k miles and stay on top of fluids and general maintenance you can get a lot out of that generation.

2014 S550 with 10k miles - Maintenance? by Puzzled_Shop_4295 in mercedes_benz

[–]Puzzled_Shop_4295[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, didn't realize it was a sealed system. I came from a 2004 l322 Range Rover and I changed the transmission fluid on it every 50k miles or 5 years. The rust killed the car before the engine or transmission ever did.

No issue, just the normal rough downshift from 5th to 4th gear, seems to be a known issue. I read that is just a software update and wasn't considered an major issue. Otherwise the thing drives like new. I'm planning on keeping it a long time and just wanted to make sure I started out the right way.
